Crowd for Penn State

Which crowd do we get vs. Penn State? Do we get the one that we had for Notre Dame that was absolutely hostile. Or do we get the crowd from years past? I hope everyone is as jacked up as they were for ND. That was a great scene. Any word on a Maize out?

This is a big game for both teams so the crowd should definitely be into it. The only difference may come from the fact that most Michigan fans despise Notre Dame while our Penn State stance is more neutral. Personally, Penn State has always been my second favorite team. Either way, I'll be screaming and making lots of noise from my wonderful seats located right behind Joe Pa.

Doesn't have to be "maize" for it to work. My brother has a simple yellow winter jacket, I think it's a Nautica brand. Either way, yellow isn't that uncommon a color for a coat, especially if you're a fan of Michigan. Though blue is obviously more common.

There are definitely lots of maize/yellow sweatshirts out there.

I, for one, will not tolerate a Michigan Man/Woman that would dare wear yellow in place of our beloved Maize. While the two colors may seem close to the untrained, non-Michigan man eye, they do, in fact, clash. If people wear yellow, we'll be the laughing stock of both the college football and fashion worlds.

This, of course, can and most likely will change about 17 times before Saturday. Here's hoping for good weather.

With what's at stake, plus the noise-bouncing of the suites, plus as Hannibal noted below the fact that we haven't had a big game at the Big House in over a month adds up to one very loud and very hostile Michigan Stadium.

Their fans continually do the "WE ARE! PENN STATE!" chant as they walk to the stadium, as they enter the stadium, as they file through the concourses, and as they enter their seats. Then they wonder why opposing fans consider them arrogant.

Now, I realize this isn't exclusive to PSU, and I personally know several Michigan fans that are this arrogant and boisterous. However, it seems to be a fanbase-wide thing with PSU, especially in as a visitor. I just remember being very annoyed before the '07 PSU game, and then laughing at the PSU fans who got mad when the game was over and everyone was cheering and chanting "It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!" and "WE OWN! PENN STATE!"

Yes, the average PSU fan in my experience considers their team to be everything that is right and true and holy about college football and that anytime they lose it must be because of some sort of conspiracy or hiccup in the space-time continuum.

If you want to lose about 30 minutes of your life, ask a Penn State fan how he/she feels about 1994.

Wait, don't do that. No one should be subjected to that much whining & crying.

The crowd is going to be crazy for this game. It's the first big home game in over a month and everyone knows how critical it is to win this one.

Does anyone remember the "Lloyd Carr clock" that was making the rounds among PSU fans after the 2005 game? It was a maize & blue clock with Lloyd's face on it, and it would add a second to the time at "completely random" points. I'm trying to dig it up, but can't find it... I totally love it.

will always seem to be a less than hostile rivalry, I just don't think both fan bases have it in them to hate each other. Why would you hate another program who has a similarly strong history and who's fans don't act like they're drunk truck drivers.....because they are drunk truck drivers.

Most....check that ALL....of the animosity from PSU fans has everything to do with Michigan winning 9 in row in the series. That can breed a lot of hostility.

PS by favorite moment from 2007 was seeing a PSU student outside Michigan Stadium with his brand new Appalachian State shirt giving it to all the Michigan fans before the game.......app state this, app state that.......he was being a real horses ass.

After the game he was standing in the same area waiting for his friends with the most inconsolable sad clown face you've ever seen. It was quite a site to see thousands of Michigan fans walk past this tool in his Appalachian State shirt.....and the subsequent ribbing that he deserved.

comment is a pretty good retort to those who bring up the horror.
Sadly, it doesn't work at all with Oregon fans.

Whoa, wait a second... this game, at this point, is a very accurate indicator of how far or not far we've come, and this game is absolutely HUGE in terms of our future. I do not care who is coaching on their sideline this week, although I respect JoePa, they are the ENEMY this week, and I will be every bit as hostile for them as I was against ND - and hopefully everyone else does the same. There are recruits coming here, this is for 6-2 and a realistic shot at running the table (or having just one more loss), for a decent poll ranking, for pride (46-17?!?!), and to completely knock them out of the Big Ten title race.

We want this one BAD, we should definitely show it!

It all depends on the amount of RAWK music we play over the PA. (Seriously, I'm sure we'll have a good crowd.)

As for PSU fans, I don't understand why people dislike them so much. From my experience, their fans have been pretty classy. The "We Are..." stuff is just standard fare. Almost every school chants something like that (and our fans chant "Go . . . Blue" on the road, too).

The way PSU fans reacted to THE HORROR (there's youtube galore of it). I have a special place in my heart for beating PSU now. JoePa and the lions can go 0-12 for all I care.

This feels every bit as big as Notre Dame imo.
