Cross Division Rivals

Submitted by joeyb on

I am just wondering why people don't like the idea of cross division rivals. I would much rather that Michigan play OSU, MSU, Minnesota, PSU, and maybe Nebraska every year and play the other teams twice every 4-5 years. To me, rotating Minnesota and PSU off the schedule so that we can play the other teams that we have little rivalry with 1-2 more times every 10 years doesn't seem very reasonable.

So, I have 2 questions for everyone. Why do you like or dislike the idea of cross-division rivals? And, if there were a way to guarantee that every team played each of their rivals AND had perfectly balanced schedules, would you be willing to consider 2 cross-division rivals?

I'd love the idea of cross division rivals that we play each year.  I nominate our rivals to include Minnesota, Indiana, and Northwestern.

I don't care as long as Michigan and Ohio State are in the same division and playing the last week of the regular season.  All that other stuff really doesn't matter.  The only other team I definitely want to play every year is MSU, but it doesn't matter to me if they're in our division or not.

I don't want Michigan and OSU in separate divisions.  Michigan-OSU is meant to be played at Michigan Stadium and Ohio Stadium - not a domed NFL stadium.  (Do you really want to see the Dr. Pepper Football Toss at halftime of Michigan-OSU?)   And it's a once-a-year thing.  It's the Game, not the Game(s?).

As I said VT and UVA are cross division rivals from the ACC Atlantic and Coastal and still manage to play each other every year as the last game

The best way however to resolve this "2 game in 2 weeks" issue is just to have them both in the same division, it would be intrigiuing.

But we must preserve "the game" as the final one during the regular season.  If it was moved to any other saturday it most definately would not feel the same!

The best part of the UM/OSUck rivalry was the buildup throughout the season...if the game is a couple weeks earlier it would almost seem like...like... premature ejaculation!  I mean sure its always good but you knew it could have been so much better if you could have waited a little bit longer!

I really hope that they keep this game at the end of the season, although it's looking like that's not gonna happen.  It really sucks actually.

I'm in the Bob Seger turn the page camp.  As the 2 top teams traditionally and most likely in the long run, it's in our best interest to play them as an inter-division rivalry during the regular season (preferably late on a new set weekend).  Then, if we both take care of business the rematch will give the losing squad the chance at revenge and almost as importantly perhaps extra chances at National Championships ala SEC teams.

I can understand the flipside okay, but I wanted the rematch so bad after Bo's passing that this plan appeals to me.  I see it as the evolution/de-evolution of the rivalry.
