Crisler Center>Breslin Center

Submitted by SpreadGuru on
As the Big Ten conference season winds down, it's starting to become more clear that the Crisler Center is just a better home-court advantage than the Breslin Center. The two biggest games of the conference season so far have been the Michigan Michigan State matchups. When Michigan State held the lead with five minutes to go in the first game, the Breslin Center was barely audible in terms of a volume level. Today with Michigan managing the same situation in the mid point of the second-half, the Crisler Center was going crazy. I'm not one to overreact like our "friends" over the RCMB are doing tonight but I would say that it's becoming evident that the Izzone and the Breslin Center are not what they once were. You could also make the argument that the Kohl Center in Madison and the barn and Minneapolis are better home-court advantage is then the Breslin Center. Thoughts?

ive had shitty seats and good seats at both. the shitty seats at crisler were better than the shitty seats at breslin. Izzone was huge when i was in high-SCHOOL IN 2004. But sparty rhetoric is only as good as the students who come up with it. izzone has been the same since they first came out with newspapers and who cares.... everyone is over them, especially UM basketball team.

I don't know about who is louder, but just from watching games on TV, the Izzone is full of a bunch of deperate attention-whore drunk dumb punk-ass bitches.  The Maize-Rage isn't.

The Breslin Center is the loudest, toughest, atmosphere in the BIG.  Nobody has students that surround the court that are that engaged in a game like at State.  The reason the game at State sounded poor on TV was because ESPN's microphones were turned way down.  I was there, it was the loudest building I've been in.

Could care less about the buildings themselves, they are both concrete and steel monoliths of functional engineering.  They serve their purpose in every way.  At Michigan its simply prettier on the inside.  Michigan went with comfort and 'extras', State went with functionallity.

All that said what makes a building tough to play in is the team on the floor and John Beilein has himself a damn fine team.

I've been to Mackey Arena and that is very loud.  I've also been told that Carver Hawkeye is very load.  I remember being told once that they put benches in Carver Hawkeye so the fans wouldn't get to comfortable.  Mackey also has benches.  I never thought Crisler gave much of a home court advantage because the alumni are just too quiet.  For years it was like going to a neutral site or worse like going to the ballet.  When Steve Fisher came and created the Maize Rage it definitely got better.  The renovation made it better.  Moving the donors to best seats makes it worse.  At Breslin the ring of students definitely makes it seem louder - at least on TV.  I don't think we beat State today because of home court advantage but because Keith got that second foul and Adreian and Gary were just too tired and because Izzo had to do too many things that weren't normal.

Crisler > Breslin.  I know this how?  Because the Sports Illustrated Kids "Top 10 in Everything Sports" features the Maize Rage as one of the top 10 fanbases across all sports, ahead of even the Izzone and Cameron Crazies, neither of which are on the list.  Irrefutable and undisputable proof that Crisler has a better atmosphere than Breslin.

(and yes, I hang out in the B&N kids book section with my daughters)

there is no comparison. I only love going to Crisper because I love Michigan. I live closer to east landing and get free tickets from work to MSU games and there is no comparison in atmosphere. MSU actually has a large student section. what pisses me off kd that we have a maize out and it would look sweet if everyone wore maize but not the case, less than half did. MSU's old fans are a lot louder than our old golf clappers

Breslin is okay. The "Stadium" where their "football team" plays is a complete piece of ****. I'd rather hang out in parts of Detroit before I go there again.
