It's Michigan vs. Alabama on Labor Day weekend.
It's two of the biggest fanbases in college football playing a game scheduled a year-and-a-half in advance when both are expected to be good on a 3-day season-opening weekend at the most prominent pro football stadium in the country.
BCS games are scheduled 4 weeks in advance during what is already one of the busiest travel seasons of the year and oftentimes consist of stinker matchups, and often those stinker matchups consist of conference title losers whose fans already went to the conference championship game (see VaTech this year, Georgia and Bama in years past, any game with the ACC and Big East...)
Intensity is a lot of guys that run fast.

Maybe "stinker matchups" was one of the main but sublte points in his comment? Maybe Michgan and Alabama being a better matchup than any of those in the BCS bowls, including the Sham-pionship, was one of the points implied in his comment.
People who follow big programs and want to go to bowl games always assume that their teams are going to make it to one of the big games.
The main problem, except for the BCS being a tired old joke that we've all heard a thousand times, is the scheduling of games after NYD. They should have kept all of the major bowls on the holiday. It's a lot easier to take Jan 2 as an extra day off than it is to take two or three in the first week of January.
So, yes, it's quite interesting that Michigan-Alabama is selling a lot better than the BCS bowls. If anything, they should be selling slower becuase people have a lot more time between when the tickets went on sale and when the game will actually be played. This is a testament to both fanbases.

Even the best BCS at-large matchups often don't sell out. The timing is the biggest hurdle. You have to ask tens of thousands of people to travel on, at most, a month's notice.
ticket sale vs media sales?
The bowls dont care if people travel to them. The schools are mandated to purchace an allotment of tickets so the bowls make their money. the poeple losing out on it are the fans and the schools.
the bowls also get more media money and higher shares for having the game on their own day. so until the attendance is EXTREMELY low to the point that fans start backlashing they will not care and will simply increase the alotment the schools have to buy in order to accept the bid.
this is why the bowl system is broken and why a +1 wouldnt work (but its a baby step to an eventual playoff)
good luck getting college students and fans to travel across the country in back to back weeks AFTER semester has started for a lot of schools AND after they have already traveled to conference championshiop games and tickets being as expensive as they are to begin with.

Even if you were already a season ticket holder, I thought that the points were awarded and back tracked for each year of having season tickets back to 94. So im not sure how someone currently could have season tickets without any priority points. Just curious if someone knows...
You can't...
However, you're priority points aren't activated unless you contribute at least $100 to the Victor's Club each year. If you have a PSD, then this is automatic. However, there are some people with season tickets in the endzone who are grandfathered in from having to pay the PSD, myself included. My priority points were only activated after I donated $100 to the scholarship fund....... which I'm glad I did as I purchased 4 tickets to the Bama game this morning.

Priority Points and Dallas first right of refusal
Because of the Preferred Seat Donation, the only people who may not have Priority Points are those who have End Zone Season tickets that were Season Ticket Holders before 2005. Otherwise everyone should have some number of Priority Points and should have fell into the slotting for tickets.
Also, I know this is true for the Suites for the game, but not positive on other seats. Season ticket holders for the Cowboys had first right of refusal for the Suites, so that could have easily taken up a lot of tickets. If you had Lions season tickets and got offered another game between, for instance, USC and LSU, why wouldn't you go?

Dallas Questions
I'm contemplating going to the game...does anyone have any reccomendations for places/areas to stay in Dallas. Should I look for something near the stadium or go for dowton Dallas, and rent a car to get to the game?

Really, stay anywhere you want just don't stay in Arlington. Definitely stay in either Dallas or Fort Worth (whichever one you want to visit) and rent a car. You should be able to get a decent deal on hotwire for the car and as for the hotel - you really can pick whatever the heck you want. 1 piece of advice though - traffic coming from Dallas is much worse than traffic coming from FW.

On Feb 9th when tickets are made available for someone in my situation I assume when I log on that there will be and active link I can click on to purchase tickets.....Right?

Since last year...
If you attempt to exceed the limits. Your second or subsequent orders will later be refunded and not permitted by the ticket office. Back in 2009/10 season you could still get around the limit. But not anymore. I remember trying to get more tickets for the Nebraska game last year... and I was denied that order.
