Cowboy Classic: Most exciting game?

Submitted by BlueNation on

So, I was thinking about the hype surrounding the Michigan vs Alabama game on Saturday. Last year, IMO, the most exciting/best games that I watched, were UTL, Sugar Bowl, The Game and BAMA/LSU the first time they played. Not to meniton, that I'm a little bias because Michigan is my team. Now, UTL was early in the season and still ended up being the best game that I watched last year. With that said, what are the chances that in the first week of the season, that Michigan vs Alabama ends up being the best/most exciting game of the year? I think that it has all of the makings to be one of the best of the season. It has the hype, great players, high ranked teams (given pre-season doesn't matter), the defending national champion and the winningest program in college football. What does the MGoCommunity think?

Well per Ace on twitter this morning, Alabama coaches are confidently telling recruits that they are going to dominate Mich. Which, I mean of course they dominated LSU in the title game, but who says something like that when the 2013 Tide have yet to play a snap? Seems overly arrogant, to say the least, to predict such a thing against a team who won a BCS bowl themselves last year and had a top ten recruiting class which means there is bound to be a player or two they cannot scout and may make an impact even in this first game. Here's to whichever coaches are saying this jinxing the Tide on Saturday!

I hope this is true, because if it is you can bet that the Alabama players have the same attitude. Every big upset (which a UM victory would be in the eyes of the country and the oddsmakers) begins with overconfidence and arrogance on the part of the team that was the favorite.

reached full saturation.  I think that a "Random Alabama Game Thoughts" thread is in order to get this under control.

The first game of the year can't ever be the most exciting game of the year.  How would the media hype the rest of the season if it was?

Can anyone post or point me to a hypothetical analysis of how the outcome of this Alabama game could affect recruting (past, current, and future commits)?

Um....care to explain exactly how the outcom of a game can impact PAST commits?  Wouldnt past committs be already on the team?   I'm guessing if they're current then your referring to the verbals we now have.

And my guess is (and this is ONLY a guess) is that if we win it will help.  And if we lose it won't help so much.

Yes, the past commit part was a bit of a brain fart...

As far as your oversimplified analysis, i was hoping for more of an in depth look at what scheduling a game like this does to recruiting.  Do the national exposure benefits outweigh any risks associated to a bad loss?

Maybe its a question most appropriately answered by the Mathlete with historical data.

Last year was an unique year between being the first year under Brady Hoke and UTL, the Ohio game and the Sugar Bowl.  Those were particularly memorable games for wide and varied reasons (first ever night game, first win over Ohio since 2003, BCS bowl win). This year, I would predict that this is the most publicized game because it has been hyped for quite a while now, but I imagine there are games later in the season that will be possibly more intriguing / exciting, particularly if we're in the midst of something special, if you will.
