Courtney Avery Draws High Praise

Submitted by bigben on
Nice article from annarbor.com on Courtney Avery. http://www.annarbor.com/sports/um-football/michigan-cornerback-recruit-… Praise from his coach, B.J. Payne: “He’s the type of kid that if he wants to be president of the United States one day, he will be,” Payne said. “I got two compliments I could give him. That’s the first, and the second is if my daughter was 18, she could date him."

Great article. Sounds like the kind of kid I want on my team. If he's smart enough to play QB, CB, and have a near 4.0, maybe he also knows geometry and can take proper angles.

only goes so far. To win championships the right way, you need great character people like Avery, too. I wonder how the "no family-values"-RR bashers will spin this recruitment.

The second means much more than the first - I'm sure each one of us has thought either the current president or the former president is an idiot but saying you'd let him date your daughter - that's saying something...

I hadn't really done my homework on Avery.. this kid absolutely lays the lumber. I think my favorite qoute of the article is "I’ve coached a lot of cats in seven years, and he’s the only kid that I can say that about.”

That quote wasn't from Boren. It was from Wermers. And considering what we've seen from Justin Feagin and Boubacar Cissoko, perhaps he had a point. I'm sure all of Ball State's players are model citizens, though.

Now we're back to normal. I should have known better than to suggest that Gerald Ford wasn't a great president or that Feagin and Cissoko weren't great teammates, history and police reports be damned!

Pretty sure you got negged for suggesting that the fact that feagin and cissoko's transgressions indicated a lack of family values. Not for suggesting that they weren't great teammates.

I didn't say they indicated a lack of family values. I said WERMERS'S comments might have been about Cissoko and Feagin, two guys who are criminals and have thus been kicked off the team.

Who doesn't like marijuana? College students before Rodriguez certainly did. Also, Feagin... I loved the kid's quotes and picture when he committed. Those two had difficult times adjusting to life in AA and were kicked off the team in a satisfactory manner. There was very little to suggest that they would end up that way. Why did you make such a point to take the heat off Boren? He WAS the one that said, "...those family values have eroded." http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3314282

For God's sake, I WASN'T talking about Boren. I was talking about Wermers. How many times do I have to repeat that? "I really didn't get along with the new coaches," Wermers told the web site. "They were bringing in a lot of different kids that were not my kind of crowd." Boren was the one who was talking about family values, yes. He WAS NOT the one who talked about Rodriguez bringing in bad people. That was Wermers. Also, it was Wermers who said that. Wermers said he wasn't a fan of the people Rodriguez brought in, Wermers said.
