A couple of questions about Les Miles

Submitted by artds on
Am I just making this up, or was it not Miles who recommended Rich Rod to Martin and MSC 3 years ago? I seem to remember Miles confirming publicly that he spoke Martin and MSC shortly after the ESPN/Herbstreit debacle went down to suggest potential coaching candidates to his alma mater.

Also, can anyone speak to the rumors regarding the negative stuff that supposedly went down with Miles when he was on the coaching staff here? I'm sure we've all heard those stories by now, but I don't know how much of that is grounded in fact and how much is just some made up BS that got started on an internet forum somewhere.

The LSU sites are saying that it is Miles to Michigan after the Cotton Bowl.

I, however, think it's just wishful thinking on their part.

Reminds me of "Take my wife.... please!"

OK, suppose I buy into this idea of the "Michigan Family," of which I skeptical to begin with, given that our best coaches (Yost, Bo) came from outside the "Family," but let's say I do.  Miles is just as much a part of the "Family" as anyone he may have wronged.  Are you saying this "Family" is incapable of foregiveness, 15-20 years after the fact?  That a fellow member of the "Family" needs to be scorned and shunned forever?  Sounds like a dysfunctional family to me.

Inapt analogy, but I think you foregive the transgressions of those in your family.  Maybe they get punished--as Miles most certainly has been--but you forgive and move on.

At any rate, this is about Michigan football moving forward, not twenty-year-old domestic squabbles among a staff that are long-gone from the program.  The relevant institutional principle is love for Michigan, pursuit of excellence.  Miles brings that to the table.

OK, now that is more of a cause for concern.  In the context of the SEC, it's bad but probably not the worst.  I, too, dislike moral relativism, however, and it should be addressed if Michigan is serious about Les Miles.

You know how many of these "so and so slept with so and so's wife/sister/girlfriend/mom" stories turn out to be total B.S.?

Half of them probably start something like this... Guy 1:  Man, that Rosenberg guy really hates Rich Rodriguez.  Guy 2.  Yeah, Rich Rod must have slept with his wife or something...  Joke gets retold, it becomes a story, next time it becomes a rumor... and then it's plastered all over the internet.

I'm aware it's an old rumor. But it's just beneath this board. And the more you say this sort of thing, the more it takes on a life of its own. Most rumors are fine -- that partly what boards are for. But rumors like this one cross a line into slander. Technically, at least, they open Brian up to trouble.

I heard from a reliable source that Les Miles eats grass because it soothes his stomach after eating the souls of African children that Sally Struthers could not help.

Take it or leave it.
