The longest week of the year starts now.
The longest week of the year starts now.
The throw Forcier made while on the run was the highlight for me, though Stonum and Denard look great. Anyone have any idea who 10 is? Jeremy Gallon played QB in highschool, but why would he be taking snaps here?
I believe that is Jack Kennedy.
but he is listed as #20 on the roster: http://www.mgoblue.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/mich-m-footbl-mtt.html
I guess he could be in an alt to avoid confusion with Shaw?
He's playing on the scout team. They're preparing for UConn
To roll left into the sideline and be able to hit the tiny window while allowing the receiver to stay inbounds is one reason I think Tate needs to be on the field. He doesn't need to be the only QB to play IMHO, but he definitely needs to be in the mix.
He seems to throw an effortless deep ball.
I really hope Kelvin Grady is playing offense in this video.
or Michigan will soon claim its second DB Heisman winner...
Good to see some good defensive plays by Death Roh and Marvin Robinson
I hope Stonum does that a lot this year! He looks good!
Nice avatar. I created an iPhone background version of that. If you have an iPhone and are interested, I can send it along.
Granted this is only a small piece of what happened but the best throws definitely came from Tate. Can't wait till next week no matter who the starter is.
Denard still throws some wobbly balls, yet in spite of that he seems more accurate. We aer going to see a lot of both guys again this year. Tate throws really well on the run and has plenty of mobility (only seems slow next to Denard).
Devin Gardner is going to excite M fans before too long.
Looks like Vlad was playing on the scout team... guess he's no longer in the two-deep. The young guys must be stepping up big time.
Scout team jersey numbers do not reflect Michigan roster numbers.
I add the embed to the OP as soon as it finishes processing. This didn't make it go faster.
The Marvin Smash.
I don't envy the QB decision the coaches have to make. Personally, I'm not neccessarily in the "Redshirt Gardner" camp, I'm in the "Win Games" camp (don't waste your words trying to convince me otherwise), and all 3 seem like they could start and have success.
The one thing that has stood out the most (to me anyway) in these CTK videos is the talent we have at QB. All 3 seem to be legit options & capable of not only starting but doing some really good things.
I was also pleasantly surprised with the coverage on d. All the completed passes had a defender right on the receivers hip & forcing near perfect throws by the QB's. Heres hoping I wasnt just seeing what I wanted to & that is something that will carry over into the season.
Tough call. It's probably going to come down to whoever the coaches feel can exhibit "game-time poise" and keep their cool under duress.
Nice lick by M Rob on special teams. He is going to be a force. Also, beautiful deep ball by Devin. He had barely any room to fit that in.
And that hit by M-Rob set off a massive "Ooooooo!" from us.
Obviously we haven't seen every practice, but Kelvin Grady is looking great at WR. Nice over the shoulder bomb from DG! Clearly, Looks like D Rob is playing with the ones and Tate with the twos.
Marvin Robinson is going to be a hell of a player for us whether it's at LB, S or a hybrid position. That kid is just a football player IMO. Haven't had very many of those on defense these last couple of years.
There is talent GALORE on that offense. If I had to pick a starting QB, I'd go with Tate. I think he throws the best, most consistent ball of the three. Some of Robinson's throws were just fugly. Gardner hands down has the most talent and upside of the 3 QB's. That was evident in just watching that 2 1/2 min video. Gardner has the size and the arm to go along with the leadership and athleticism to become an all-time great at Michigan. I am salivating at the mouth at the prospects of Devin Gardner being our QB in 2012 and beyond. I hope he redshirts this year to fine tune his game, gets worked into the rotation as a RS Fr. in 2011 and then takes over the job for good in 2012 as a RS Soph.
Was it me, or did all of Denard's throw seem excessively wobbly?
edit: n/m. rewatched and Tate's looked similar. I think it was the video quality and speed of camera trying to follow that was throwing me off
Denard made good decisions (which is probably the most important thing), but his passes were wobbly.
Tate's passes were all crisp spirals, right on target. He also looks more decisive with his running than last year, at least in other videos. Not so much freelancing and playing chase-me-in-circles like before.
I still like D-Rob for starter in the opener, especially because UConn struggles against the spread, and Denard is best suited to punish a team like that.
I'd give Tate at least three drives, just to keep the defense off balance. Timing is important, though. Don't want to screw with a QB's momentum.
Bottom line: I think our offense is really going to be clicking this year.
It was the two factors you mentioned as well as the college football stripes. I think the flash of the half stripes makes the ball look wobbly as stripe/no-stripe track differently against the stadium background.
Kelvin Grady made some really nice plays. His hands have gotten alot better; another weapon for our soon to be dominating offense. One week baby; can't wait...
I fully expect the total points scored for both teams in each game this season to be well over 50. This CTK made me both extremely excited and nervous at the same time.
Also I have full confidence in any of the 3 QBs to lead the team.
off the D, and will also force the other teams to take chances that hopefully we can capitalize on defensively. Marvin is a monster!
Both sides were playing against the scout teams. This is the first time you should be unabashedly happy watching the stars shred the opposition. The defense should get a lot better once the QB situation gets settled, because the third stringer should get plenty of time against the number one defense, which will give them better looks in practice.
Ah, I didn't realize they were both going up against the scout team.
Thanks for talking me off the ledge.
Who is the new #23? Since they caught a punt, I was thinking it was Drew Dileo, but they also were playing RB. Any ideas?
Not sure who else it could be unless a walk on inherited the #. Also noticed a #44 on O, anyone know if Moundros is moonlighting back on O from time to time?
I loved that shoulder fake by Forcier before one of his throws. Little details like that can be all the difference between failure and success.
Ok, google searching hasn't worked. Why do we call it the "Beanie Bowl"? Everytime I hear it I think of Beanie Wells for OSU and God Forbid do I want that to be my reference. MGoScholars, please enlighten me.
In football the defense or scout team will wear beanies as a way to distinguish itself from the offense. They are skull type hats that slide over the helmet.
looks like they will stuff the run very well! I think we are going to see much improvement and if thats the case it give our young secondary a chance to develop into a solid unit as well.
are just beastly.....I'm exciting to see what the rest of the defense looks like against UCONN
on these highlights for once.
I was going to say the same thing, I think the Defense will be much improved, saw some good hitting in the highlights, and hopefully the tackling and positioning will be much better too, can't wait for the season to start, GO BLUE!!
The defensive highlights are against the scout team, running UConn's offense.
If you notice, all three were against trap plays, which must be a heavy focus. They are easy to read for the LBs since it is only reading guards. (Not saying this to take anything away, but just for info. I loved the one with Mouton flying downhill.)
The word Beanie comes from the little hats they wear when the squads are mixed for things like special teams, to tell which team is which, since the jersey colors are mixed together.
Man, Stonum looks like he could be a beast this year. We're going to have some pretty serious weapons at WR. Can't wait to watch them torch the UConn secondary for 400 yards.
Couple of thoughts:
I get that impression as well that the coaching staff is quite the confident. Love it....
I detected more confidence/happiness in his voice than I've heard in a long time. Love it!
The man obviously knows what he wants to see in his team, and it's obvious he's at least seeing more of it than he has in past years. Still a very young team, but I really think it's starting to click with them.
Can't wait 'till Saturday!
Looks like Obi continues to get some time with the 1's. That competition looks to be ongoing. Carvin also got time with the 1's.
They're cherry-picking 2 minutes of highlights from a much longer practice, so I don't exactly read too much into a lot of this... Not to mention it's not a 100% live scrimmage with real tackling.
That being said, the big question for me after watching that is are our receivers that good, or is our secondary that bad?
they're going against the scout team, aka players pretending to be uconn
why were their more highlights of Tate than the other two combined?
If you're referring to the defenders in white, aren't those scout teams guys? If that's accurate, then we can infer nothing from the action on the field.
Edit: I'm sitting here watching, getting goosbumps because I'm pretty pumped to see our team this year, and these highlights are like crack to me.
Bando sits there watching this(thinking: God I hate RR), trying to find a way to make it depressing, and bad. It must suck to be you...
I am floored by these highlights. I know I should temper my emotions but I have never seen highlights like these since RR has gotten here. Offensively this team looks explosive fast. All three QB's look great (I know selected sample). Stonum looks like a future number 1 (if you know what I mean). This team looks ready.
My prediction is that this time next year Michigan is going to be the "sexy" pick to win the Big Ten.
"My prediction is that this time next year Michigan is going to be the "sexy" pick to win the Big Ten."
Forget next year - lets make it count this year! I know that's what they're all gunning for.
Win it all Baby! Shock the world!
(In 8 minutes, It'll be 6 days and counting...so I'm a little more amped up than normal....my apologies to anyone still holding onto rational thoughts so close to the start of the season)
Like to see Kovacs stripping the ball on the tackle and Grady switching to his outside hand when defenders are approaching. All the small things, fellas...
1) Mike Martin is going to rip some fu**ing heads off this year.
2) Marvin Robinson will start against Notre Dame.
3) Tate will play a lot more than most people think & will start against UConn.
4) The defense will be much better than a lot of people think - top 4 of the Big Ten
5) The offense will average 38+ points/game
6) Stonum will have over 1000 yards in 2010 & the #1 jersey next season
7) Devin Gardner will be the known as the best QB to ever play for UM
8) Denard will split time with Tate but also be used at other positions
9) Did I metion Mike Martin is going to rip some fu**king heads off this season
10) We will finish the season 9-3, win a Bowl game & RR will be offered a contract extension. Michigan fan's nerves will be tested as rumors float around about RR leaving for a Southern school
I like the enthusiasm. I agree with 1, 4, 5, 9, and 10, I'm 50/50 on 2, 3, and 8, and I pretty much disagree with 6. I doubt we'll pass enough for that to happen.
As for 7, do you mean, "while at Michigan," or "greatest quarterback in the NFL to have ever played for Michigan? If the latter, Tom Brady would like a word with you. That is, if he can shake loose of Giselle. Damn...
I like your predictions. Tate IMO will start and Denard will be in to mix it up. DG has a very good chance at becoming a Michigan all-time great qb. You can see the power in the kids pass developing. Pretty soon the camera won't be able to keep up with the ball.
I'm guessing they have a good reason they didn't show any QB rushes. Let's hope it's new wrinkles.
here the PA guys voice as the piece closes....
Not a lot of good defensive plays, so that is a little concerning. Overall, the offense looked pretty good other than with Kennedy playing. Gardner had an absolutely perfect throw to Grady right on the sideline. That was just ridiculous. I hope Gardner redshirts just because I'm selfish and I want him to be able to start more in the future. Denard was looking solid on some throws/scrambles, and Tate had a nice throw to Stokes in the endzone. It was nice to see some good play coming from Stonum. He's definitely a dangerous returner and I think he will be a strong threat at WR this year. Can't wait for Sep. 4th. Buckle down people, the game is approaching.
Seriously? In a scrimmage without full tackling, in which one of the teams is the scout team? I don't think anybody should be drawing any conclusions—good or bad—based on this thing. It's purpose was primarily to give the team a run-through at the stadium in something approximating game management conditions.
I'm also in Denard's corner because he went out in the offseason and did what it took to improve his game and to win over the team. I love Tate, and know that he's a proven winner - but I really think Denard deserves the start against UConn. Tate will absolutely see time on the field, if for nothing else than to give Robinson a breather after he runs for 200 yards in the first half.
Don't know if I've ever been more excited to see a Michigan team take the field than this one, this year. And I believe that will continue to grow even more in the coming years. We have an explosive offense, but when the D really starts to dominate the field - look out Big Ten and National Championships. Those days are coming. Confidence is contagious and builds upon itself.
I don't expect perfection out of these kids, but I believe that they've truly "bought in" and will leave every ounce of themselves on that field every Saturday - and who can ask for more than that?
Agreed, all this showed is that we should do very well against a talent level equivalent to UMass
more on the level of Bowling Green than UMass...at least, I hope they would be.
Was Gardner's pass at 1:56 not silky smooth??
Maybe his mechanics have improved more than we know.
Also, Stonum with his HD vision is about to get a 1000+ yard season.
that fade that devin threw at the end was purdy
After watching that again for the 19th time: GET. STONUM. THE. BALL. Holy shit, yes, it's the Beanie Bowl but hearing from the coaches about how great of a camp he is having is simply exciting to hear. This is the same kid who had transfer rumors the last couple of years and has been in the doghouse. His ability, combined with his maturity is one thing I am excited about more than anything. I really think we need to utilize him on reverses/end-arounds, screens and slants. He will be our best threat this year, IME.
D line penetration was impressive. Martin is a freaking animal. And man did we look fast on offense.M-Rob stood ut a couple times too. We just flat out look like a team. Organized, together. Very encouraging.
