Countdown to Kickoff - Day 28
Hey, Omameh is a sociology major? Nice -- I had Luis for a few classes. Cool professor.
I wish producing these videos was my job.
Sorry for poor quality, only clip I could find
Now I have nothing to do tomorrow.
I thought he was going engineering, or am I mistaken?
I remember that being the case, as well. He said he enjoyed the classes. Maybe he made the switch recently. He wouldn't be the first college student to change his major. I think I changed mine twice.
Just making sure I'm not making stuff up in my head. Also, I know all about switching majors. Well, maybe not switching, but taking classes for one, then another, then another and then declaring when I'm getting ready to become a senior.
Better not let Jim Harbaugh hear about Omameh changing from engineering to sociology...
I'm a Harbaugh fan, went to school when he did, but all the stuff he said a few years back - hypocritical. He was in a few of my classes, only to be seen the first day and then never again. I don't think you can criticize that which you did yourself.
Edit: Also, I sat with Patrick and Taylor Lewan at lunch at the Women's Football Academy. Really great guys.
The guy is a double major at Michigan in LS&A. If Harbaugh (or ANYone) has a problem with that they are idiots.
... thinking of taylor lewan, who is an engineering major.
EDIT: no your not, im wrong.
I believe you are mistaking Omameh with Obi Ezeh. Obi is an engineering major.
What a goofy guy. I love it...especially the part about disliking coconut.
I have to be "that guy" though: "How are you from Columbus but wound up at Michigan?"
Michigan being the best school to offer might have something to do with it...
Either way, I think he's a diamond in the rough and is going to do some great things for us. Go Blue!
Man, Patrick is just a very friendly, down-to-earth guy. I feel this is a consistent trend in the guys that RR is recruiting. Not only do they have such great potential and skill, but they seem like great guys who want the best for their team. I can't wait to see what Patrick can do this year.
Thanks for posting the video in non-apocalypse format, by the way.
I thought Carr orginally offered Omameh and coach Rod kept the offer, but hadn't offered him at WVU. I could be wrong.
Anyways, Spring Lake is nice, I love it.
I'm almost positive that Omameh was a Rich Rod offer, not a Lloyd offer. He certainly doesn't fit the mold of a guy Lloyd would have offered as he was pretty thin as a senior in HS.
Patrick was way under the radar and there was no interest by Carr's staff. When RR offered him about a month after taking over the unanimous reaction was: "Who Dat?". After he committed people started to notice that he was better than his 2 star billing, but it was almost signing day so he stuck with what was by far his best offer. Lucky for us because this kid is a gem both on the field and off of it. All Big Ten this year - book it.
He is gonna stomp on people this year.. and he is funny
Watch again from :30-:45. BIG AND LEAN. WOW. 298.
Yeah, he put on a couple of pounds.
Dude looks like he can gain another 10-15 lbs without missing a beat. I think he was listed at like 6-2 going into his senior year, which was probably a big part of the 2-star rating. I think he is going to be an absolute beast.
Edit: Thinking of Ricky Barnum. Omameh was much more of a sleeper though.
Hope he continues to improve. Expecting big things from o-line as we all are I'm sure.
Is coconut a euphemism for "anyone who has ever put on a spartan jersey or partakes in the activities of michigan state university, with no exception"?
That's just the vibe I was getting
Hopefully by the time all is said and done, the kid Michigan pulled from Columbus to play G turns out to be a pretty equatable trade for the Guard who went back to Columbus to play for the Bucks. Omameh may or may not turn out to be as talented as Justin Boren, but he strikes me as a humble, hard-working kid with no signs of any attitude.
Tear it up, Patrick!
But I'd say Omameh's ceiling is considerably higher than Mr. Plow's. There's no way Boren has the athleticism Omameh does. One more year in the weight room and dude will be All Big Ten.
Seems like a fun kid, but I would not want to be on the other end of a 6'5" 298 pounder like that on the football field. Here's hoping he dominates!
I dont like doing things that require alot of movement or energy either ...it takes me 2 and a half hours to watch 60 minutes.
he moves so well for a man of his size. he has a definite chance to be Michigan's next great lineman.
Serious question: I have been led to believe that our offense requires smaller, linemen to operate successfully. The Rivalry, Esq. used that as a primary reason the spread won't succeed in the Big 10. Is he just a magical person that can gain 47 pounds without slowing down, or have the internets misinformed me about what our O-Line should look like?
It's a common misconception, but RR wants more athletic linemen, not smaller ones. Unfortunately, people able to hold 300+ lbs and stay athletic are rare and every program in the country wants them. So if you can't have the elite, instead of people who can move decently and hold 300+ lbs, the staff prefers people who can move well and only hold 290.
Speed is the key, not size. However, there was a rumor in the spring that Rodriguez apologized to his linemen and said, essentially, that their lighter weights weren't working and that he apologized for having them all cut so much weight. He then told them that they would be adding weight in the offseason conditioning program.
We now have several 300-pounders (Mealer, Schilling, Huyge, Dorrestein, Washington, etc.) whereas there were only two last year (Schilling, Washington). I'd say that's pretty clear evidence that Rodriguez wants these linemen to get bigger.
They're just like us! They hate dry fruit too! PS - Fuck coconut(s).
What an awesome guy. Go Blue!
My favorite food is anything without spinach.
More like him! It's really easy to root for a guy that seems as down to earth as that.
Which is probably why he was featured. He did seem like a nice kid.
Comments: Coconut has bad fats. His distaste (which I share) makes up for the "anything with spinach." But the way he answered the food questions makes up for eliminating said nutritional source.
Love showing a player in class, taking notes and listening. (In case there are any doubters out there.) And talking about his "academic career."
The significant pauses after the Columbus question suggest to me he's also very tactful, editing out some thoughts that were crossing his mind before speaking. Doesn't want to alienate his hometown by implying that Michigan has more to offer than other schools back home, whatever they may be. Just leaves it to "feeling right," with the little editorial glimmer in his eyes.
He's adorable. Great interview. Look forward to seeing him progress in both his academic and athletic careers.
This is the first video of Omameh off the field that I've seen. I have to say he has a very zen-like quality.
Wow, 6'5" 298 as a RS soph. He's a big kid, and lean. He will be a monster, and for years to come. If Molk stays healthy, the interior of our line will be as good as anyone's in the Big Ten this year, I'm confident about that.
Michigan found a diamond in the rough. Omameh is the definition of an underrated recruit.
Omameh is big, strong, mobile, and a very good student. I think he's going to finish all Big 10 before his career is finished at Michigan. What more could RR want? Love that Michigan has Q, Schofield, Lewan, and Omameh all for at least 3 more years.
Offensively, Michigan has a lot to be excited about.
I couldn't agree more, in the next few years we may see one of the strongest O-Lines michigan has had for years. And with that our dual threat QB's are gonna wreak havoc and completely shit on Defenses.
For some reason, "completely shit on defenses" cracked my shit up.
Man that's crazy that he's 298. I mean, he really doesn't look fat/pudgy. Usually, people talk about the weight of offensive linemen.... I'd be interested to see how our OLs compare to others as far as body fat or muscle mass percentage.
The fact that our OL seem to be pretty big.... but also muscular and not fat.... really makes me thnk our OL will dominate this year.
That guy is f*cking adorable. The coconut comment, hating anything that involves movement or energy during free time, his shyness about looking into the eye of his interviewer.... I'm sold.
I want to chuck him under the skin and invite him home for a nice plate of lasagna. Sans spinach.
What the hell does "chuck him under the skin" mean?
