Guy deserves to win. Does everything you are suppose to do as a head coach. Really hope he gets it done.

Is to get his guys to play better than other coaches' guys. If he can do that, he "deserves" to win, but you don't "deserve" to win games on the field for any other reason. Being a nice guy, running a clean, honest program, recruiting good talent and having your players and their coaches and parents like you are all well and good, but none of those things entitle you to victories.

I love that video.  For everyone that thinks that Brady Hoke just hangs out around the program and watches the trains go by, they need to watch it.

It also answers the question about why recruits feel such an instant connection with him.

would translate unto the field.  I've been optimistic about this season and then I read those quotes at Rivals about our DL and DBs being soft, easily pushed around, and taking off much of the game (Frank Clark good for 6 or 7 plays, defensive ends from other teams playing tough for 25-30 plays).  I have to tell you, that was a reality check for me.  I've gone from unnaturally optimistic to, this season could be a repeat of last year if the coaching doesn't do more than teach technique.

Notice the press coverage in the 97 video above?  Ill give Jim Hermann credit.;..he knew what he had with that team, and Woodson...and he let the dogs loose every game.  That D was AGRESSIVE.  I hope Mattison remembers that...after all those were his recruits in 97,,..he needs to cut the 14 team loose.

By the way- anyone else notice the spot at the end of the video about 2014 football tickets for sale?  That topic has been well covered on this site, but I don't ever recall seeing it being advertised in this way before.

I started to watch the UM/OSU replay last night on ESPN but turned it off after we scored the first TD. I quickly remembered how heartbroken I was when that game ended. I just couldn't do it again. Played MarioKart instead. However, I am beyond pumped for this season to start. I haven't had this much excitement coming into a season since...2007. Crap.

This particular edition is rather fortuitous in the sense that tomorrow is the technical start of camp and practice begins Monday and we shall once again begin to hear football, as Hoke likes to say, or at least we shall begin to hear it every day and in earnest. Like M-Dog said, there are a few people that probably need to see this one because Hoke is right there with these guys and what strikes me is that, even as intense as he seems in some of the drills, the personable aspect of him is not lost - it's probably a balance not a lot of coaches have.

It makes me think about how different the off season out look might have been if we had just converted the 2pt conversion. The doom and gloom would be more hope and optimism. I am just glad that football talk is here and we can stop analyzing last year and focus on this year.

I personally can't wait to see who is having a breakout season.  I believe it could be someone named Gardner or someone relatively unheralded until '14.  I feel like all the building blocks are available, its just a matter of putting them together.

Which is to say, when all the fundamentals and teaching come together at game speed with great athleticism, BOOM.  Hoke will always have my highest personal respect no matter what the epitaph on his tenure at this program will be.

I've never played football but I think if I did, I would respond to a coach like Coach Hoke, who is constructively critical without being rude or demeaning, much more than I would respond to a coach like Brian Kelly or someone else who I imagine just screaming at a guy for messing up in practice.
