Countdown to Kickoff - Day 18: Perry Dorrestein
really, really likes to eat**
Now I feel bad for posting that I hoped Lewan beat him out. Although I still hope that, Dorrestein seems to have far more personality than most football players, you gotta love that "white Jerry Rice" comment...
I think Lewan starts at LT and Dorrestein starts at RT with Huyge backing up both. Lewan will be a beast but may struggle at times. Even if he does though, he is a much better option than Huyge imo.
He was on the right side the entire time. Conventional wisdom has Lewan on the left.
The white Jerry Rice
I am going to be laughin all day about that one. Too funny ....
Love it! Only question - which nickname is better, 'WJR' ( shared with a radio station ), or simply 'white Jerry,' which is actually fewer syllables?
.."White Rice" which fits in well with his eating motif.
receiver gloves on Perry's waste? Maybe he keeps them on his waste just in case we need him to break the reception record for us. I love this guy!
This is all I could think of when he was describing where he likes to eat
Not far enough out of its way apparently. At 1:45 you can see #23 (I assume Austin White since it's an offensive player) with a wingless helmet.
More like you mentioned it so I was automatically keeping an eye out when I watched the video, because I had noticed the same thing.
I was actually thinking the same thing about the editor, and not in a sarcastic way at all. I have no doubt they are at the very least trying to keep specific players from being recognized/pointed out. That 23 was just right there unfortunately.
run blocking, running, same thing.
...Perry to Genuinely Sarcastic's Run Charts for some of his desired OL ratings.
There are these things called UFRs that do it. I can't remember which site they are on, though.
the great video yesterday, watching the O-Linemen run under a net was a little bit of a letdown. But it's still Michigan football, so I love it!
I get the point of the net drills, but after watching each group duck to clear the bar at the end, I wonder whether this drill builds some bad habits as well. Being low is vital, but being low and in bad position doesn't really help out. If your eyeballs are pointed straight at the ground, as they are when you duck under something, you are in bad position.
Thoughts, coaches?
By the time they reach the bar at the end, the teaching/learning part of the drill is over. The bar's only there to hold the net in place, not to represent a defender or anything. The players know that. They've been doing that drill every year Rodriguez has been at Michigan (and perhaps before), and Frey has produced some pretty good offensive lines, including the one we'll see on September 4th. I'm not concerned about his methods.
If I had to guess the personality of a guy named Perry, that would be it. Seems like an awesome guy, hopefully he dominates on the line this year!
I had a class with Perry in Fall semester 2008. He was a really nice guy and really smart. I looked so small next to him and I'm 6'1''! I hope he gets more reps this year.
OL player.
A former wideout, awesome. Tackle eligible jump ball to Perry D for the go ahead TD anyone???
that Tate would still not have "earned" his wings for the year yet. Didn't he take a beating starting every game for us last year? Doesn't that mean something? He must have really showed up out of shape and thought the job was his by default, or maybe he started with that attitude in the spring and it's carrying over? This whole situation is a little strange, and I wonder if it is really helping or hurting the team in general. It does seem like more and more of the guys interviewed are mentioning everyone buying in to what the coaches are selling. We will find out in 18 days... Go Blue!!!
Well, he only lost them last week, so who knows. IF he's got an attitude issue, I could care less what he did last year. I want a quarterback that deserves to play because he's doing everything he can to be the best he can be. I think he'll respond fine, and hopefully all of this hullabaloo gets him to kick it into high gear for the next couple of weeks.
Another video about packing in the food. This time he made me hungry for some of the places im missing here in Europe. Our offensive line is going to be awesome this year though.
And I second his proposal to have OL stats shown as a skull and crossbone when they make a good play.
Sounds like an idea for the UFR.
to UFR, seems to be exactly what he wants for lineman plus/minus stats.
I wonder what happened when they showed Denard standing around looking confused. Also, nice to see Kenny Demens with the (presumable) 1's in the first plays of the video.
I spy #23 @ 1:44 in the clip with no wings!
Seems to have a little Belushi in him.
A hundred bucks says Perry misses the Mike Gittleson Large Pizza Training Program.
That was fun, but didn't really whet my appetite for info. It is cool to get to see a little bit of what these guys are like though.
great outlook, funny, and engaging. I wish you the best this year Perry!
I do not know if I ever want to meet Mr. Dorrestein. If he ever saw me, I think he would eat me. He is a beastly man.
