Countdown to Kickoff - Day 16: Mark Huyge

Submitted by Thorin on

Not sure what's up with the crappy interlaced video from mgoblue the last two days. If it's like that tomorrow I'll deinterlace it myself.

I love the power play, and I hope we see it a ton this year. Sprinkle in some play action and such, and we might not even need to run Denard very much the first few games. I really think we could get a good power game going and dominate people at the LOS. We've got an experienced O-Line that made things happen last year.

I never know how to feel about the DL stuffing those power runs. I want to be excited that our DL looks impressive, but then I want to be sad because our running game is failing.

in nomal times, the defense should always be stronger at this point in camp. DL things to do: tackle guy with ball, look out for screen OL things to do: read defense, learn lanes, find guy to block, complete said block, running back finds the hole you've created. Much higher learning curve on the OL. We'll be fine.

I would guess we'll allow more sacks than we did last season, but I think this will be Michigan's best offensive line in the last five or six years.

So ends my own internal debate as to how this guy's name is properly pronounced.  Whenever Brian has said Huyge's name on the radio, he's always said "HI-gee."  That always struck me as something that couldn't possibly be right.

In Dutch last names, the vowel combo of ui or uy is pronounced like a long i. For example, I had a friend in hs whose last name was Bruinsma, pronounced "brines-ma." Its also common for Dutch last names to end in "huis" pronounced like "hice." I don't know if Huyge is Dutch, but he's from GR so it's highly likely.

I like how the guys are battling up front...even got into a little shuffle...the funny thing about that is the Lions had a scuffle in practice yesterday as well ....so I guess are guys are like NFL lineman

I know this has been brought up on other count down to kickoffs but it really seemed like Mark Huyge was taller on the video today.  Is our offensive line that big or is DK really not 17 feet tall?

Karsch and Huyge confirm that all weight gain/loss is good. I like. Also, I was surprised to hear that Molk is a jokester. I always imagined he would eat your face if you weren't fucking hitting people at all times.

I don't have enough points to start a new thread but figured people would want this bit of info.  The university released today that their lots will open at noon, along with Pioneer and the Ann Arbor Golf and Outing.  I had emailed the people that run the Pioneer lot and they had stated it would still open at 6 am.  Sounds like the University pulled some weight and got them to push their opening time back.  I have since resent an email to confirm this new time.  I will post what they reply back.
