I have a feeling that Gordon fills that leadership role in the secondary fairly seamlessly in the face of Kovacs' absence. Nick Baumgardner wrote a nice little story regarding this very thing almost a week ago (HERE). Gordon had this to say:

"I know, I've been in (the younger guys') shoes before, I know what they're going to look at," the senior safety said this week in Chicago. "If they see me on campus, I don't want them to see him going to class late. Or acting inappropriately in public at all. That goes a long way. I know what it was like to be a young guy looking up to the older guys."

He credits Kovacs with the inspiration to be the role model that he hopes to be for a mostly yound defensive backfield, but between this and the sheer effectiveness of Gordon (81 tackles last year, 67 tackles in 2011), I think the backfield is in pretty good hands.
