Q has always had a strong speech impediment / social shyness, that was especially tough as a freshman. Through sessions with counselors he's come a long way

I taught in two different elementary schools in SC, and both had a speech program. Q is from a very rural area, however, and so they may not have had funding for such a program. Great to see the strides he has taken.

Expecting big things from the NT position this year. With an experienced Q Wash and Pipkins with a year under his belt...this should be a great strength for the D. I have to say that watch Q come so far in his career has been an extremely pleasant surprise. Keep it up big man.

...is exactly why scholarships and the opportunity to go to college are so important.

If he never makes another tackle at Michigan he's worth a scholarship if you truly understand how far he's come off the field. The University of Michigan affected a young mans life in ways he could've never comprehended 6-7 years ago.

Q doesn't get into Michigan without football, but it damn near brings me to tears to see him take such advantage of the opportunity to change his life.

People didn't follow his recruitment very much, but the young man could barely talk on camera before coming to Michigan. He also had other social issues. Just the fact that Michigan can help change and provide positive influence has been worth the ride. This doesn't happen if universities aren't allowed to take a few risks.

Good for Michigan and good for Q for taking advantage of the opportunity.

Quinton Washington gave a really nice interview here, and it is very touching in a way to see someone who was, as the article above mentions, once tortured by questions like "What's your name?" to someone who is pretty well-spoken. You can definitely see in the clips that they used how much he loves what he does and his role on the team.

It is interesting to note that of the 32 tackles last season, he managed to get 5 in a game three times, and that includes some good performances against Air Force and Ohio State, as I recall. Of course, there was the sack and the blocked field goal against South Carolina as well. Very excited to see Washington out there this year.

Can someone link to the video? I'm not seeing it on my phone from the link in the OP. thanks. EDIT: if you go to the non-mobile site it's much easier.

Quinton Washington seemed to really come on strong late last year. I would not be surprised if he doubled or tripled his TFL and sack numbers from last year!

to see Q Washington step up in public leadership as a senior. We've heard how tough this type of thing is for him, and to see him do this speaks to what kind of leadership he exhibits within the locker room and on the field

I know I'm a bit late to watch this, but it's truly amazing the way he talks about the football staff.  He is not spouting some random catch phrase he heard the coaches say, you can tell he really respects and admires the coaching staff and wants to win for them.  Every program talk about it but this video really makes me believe Hoke and Mattison et al. actually do it.
