I don't think I could. So I took my fiance, who doesn't know football too well, to our first trip to the big house this year for the Indiana game. Now at the end of the season she wants to go to the Big House as bad or worse than me. She's a pretty big fan now considering the short time (she wants to get married at the stadium!). She even wants to join MgoBlog to discuss UM football, she sealed the deal with me for that.
Could you date a girl that didn't understand your obsession with UM football?
My Fiance didnt understand my obsession at first. She is a native SoCal girl and an avid USC fan (well as Avid as a USC fan can be). I just buy her Michigan clothing and talk to her about all the time and before I knew it she was swearing at the TV with me on gameday.
To answer your question, if they cant be converted dump em.
My fiance is also from S. Cal., her father was an alum, and it took a good long time to bring her along. Many of our first fights were, e.g., about me going into catatonic shock after the Horror.
At the end of the day, it is something any girlfriend is going to have to deal with, and it may take her awhile to get it, but if she loves you, she'll come around.
I'll take anyone who wants me at this point.
So, to answer your question, yes.
+1 to your ego
Thank you for the laugh
I've tried and it didn't end as well as I'd liked. I ended up pushing Michigan sports too hard and at this point she enjoys talking sh*t after Michigan loses more than enjoying victories with me. All-in-all I've definitely learned some valuable indoctrination lessons. Chief amongst them -- play up our traditions and downplay the arrogance.
my ex-g/f would root for whoever was playing michigan...turned out to be a problem in our relationship.
I'll say it again... What a bitch!
I don't think she necessarily has to understand it, she just has to accept it.
with no appreciation for college sports of any variety. She thinks my outbursts are absurd. But she lets me go about my business for 3 hours and doesn't give me a hard time about it. Quite nice, actually.
If she has a real dog, whether it's a mutt or a pure-breed, a successful relationship is possible, regardless of football affiliation. If she has a goddamned Shit-su or Lhaasa-Apso or toy poodle or Cockapoo or some other ridiculously tiny-brained varmint, forget it.
Date someone = No
Sleep with someone = Yes
doughboy, you won't be judged by your MgoBrothers on this site.
My wife is from the "ESSSS EEE CEEEE" so she understands.
it didn't work out to say the least. Her chief complaint was how I spent more time on here than w/ her. She was a dead fish in the sack too.
With all due respect, with an avatar like yours I am disturbingly interested in your definition of dead fish.
Yeah, why do you have naked Doug Flutie as your avatar? You have a thing for short Canadian quarterbacks?
Don't take this wrong but I'm kinda glad you aren't together anymore, sex isn't everything but life's too short for bad sex.
Topher has mistaken Christian Bale for this dickhead Doug Flutie. It seems logical because Flutie is also a handsome man and in fact does a similar thing Bale does by acting for a camera and he also has a penchant for Valentino suits and Oliver Peoples glasses. Bale and Flutie even go to the same barber, although Bale has a slightly better haircut.
I married one.
The nice part is that no matter how dumb she thinks my obsession is, she's still contractually obligated to tolerate me.
Same here, but you got a better deal than I. W00t for contractual obligations!
that's funny.....contractually ogligated
After 8 years of marriage we've gotten that corrected.
No. I don't think I could. I think it actually should be put in a pre-nup that if she somehow loses her desire to root for Michigan there can be an automatic annulment.
And I'm married to her and she hates football season. Too bad for her....
I don't think I could even talk to a girl who didn't understand my obsession with Michigan football, let alone date her.
But yeah, I don't talk to girls that much.
a ND alum
She must be having a tough decade.
this year. I her defense, she roots for Michigan except when they play ND>
I bet, there really aren't two elite teams that are in the situation that Michigan and Notre Dame are. At least Michigan's may be better...
Hold on tight to that one.
This is easy. Of course. Unless she hinders you from being obsessed with Michigan Football in any way. I have dated a few girls who didn't understand my obsession, but they totally didn't care that I was obsessed.
Never dated one who shares my same obsession...I envy those who have that deeply.
Good for you.
My take is that Michigan football (including the arrogance) is like owning a Harley (it took my wife a few minutes to get used to that, actually). Anyway, if you have to explain your obsession then she likely wouldn't ever understand.
I think I could. I would though give her a full warning of what she was getting into. So if she doesn't like my obsession I could I always say, "I gave you fair warning."
That's my wife!! Where did you get that?!!!
...shaking my head that someone negged be in about 60 seconds on this...can we not have a little fun?
As I scroll up and down this page, I keep coming back to 1 post...
Very nice picture. Although I prefer a little bigger breasts personally.
...some serious ink too
If he loses a pair, he's got a set right behind them ready to take its place.
hahahaha oh big viscera....
Well played sir, well played.
I don't think she could date me, she would think I was an absolute crazy person.
But then again I am married and have been a football coach for the past 15 years. She knew what she was getting into.
She better have some damn good qualities if she has problems with your love for UM football....like you know.....you know.......when she.....you know....doesn't bitch when you go golfing.
Pikers!!!lol. I'm a die hard Yankee fan and the girl I just started seeing is a Boston fan. this is going to be interesting.
that wasn't equally passionate about Michigan football is lying or has never really been in a serious relationship. I've dated girls that have said "oh i'm a huge Michigan fan" and then they watch a game with me say "wow.... you're uh... really into it" and I'm like "you uh... kinda weren't".
As others have said as long as she can put up with it and let's you do your thing for 3-4 hours on a Saturday then that's fine. In the same token I wouldn't expect my wife to understand why I don't want to go to a knitting party or some other girly thing that I obviously would not enjoy (no offense to anyone who likes girly crap).
You're never going to find a girl that is crazy passionate like you about Michigan football and if you do she's 1/1,000,000 and good for you but for me it is definitely not a requirement.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I mean it when I say I would never date a girl (or guy) who couldn't at least understand my football obsession. I can't stand fake "girly fan" jersey chasers in their stupid pink jerseys and whatnot. If you know me, you know I'm absolutely insane about my teams and if you (man or woman) can't at least talk sports with me, damn straight it's a dealbreaker.
But yea, doughboy said it best.
You're a Buzz Killington.
I can't say that my wife, a fellow Michigan alum, is as fanatic as me. She tolerates me watching the game (although sometimes does not understand why I absolutely cannot miss the first 15 minutes even if they are playing EMU or something) but only watches the last 5 minutes herself... and that is only if they are playing OSU or Notre Dame and the game is very close at the end. I must say though, that I am very happy that I have someone that puts up with my weekend emotional state being tied so closely to a football game.
but you know what? It's better this way. She has absolutely no desire to go to the Michigan games with me. Michigan football with your wife/girlfriend is palatable, but Michigan football with your guy friends is infinitely better.
but encourages it. She is excited about learning UofM history as well as the "basics" of football. Its the shit.
But I love her with all my heart and soul till the judgement and beyond come my way. I have however helped her with football knowledge and she now is a maize and blue girl too. My nickname for her is "my maizn angel. And now she's Blue like me!
Scrolling through the threads, I thought, "You know, I'm a big fan, but I'm not 'obssessed'." Then I looked at my MGoPoint total.
Yeahhh.... That number would disagree.
My Wife was never interested, but finally she's coming
around. She complains less when I throw [email protected] at the TV
on Sat., and is it just me, or is it getting a little
nippley around here?
I married one and it's been fine. I tuned my son into a bigger fan than me. Now she has double trouble - and double the grouchiness when we lose. She takes my daughter shopping when we lose to get out of the house.
The last two years are costing me too much money.
As long as her vagina doesn't care.
See Post #12
Date her.....sure. Marry her...no chance. My wife went to UofM: I'd have it no other way.
But truthfully, I don't really remember dating any that really understood it. Maybe it's just my type, but it seems most don't get it. And a lot were Michigan students/alum. Think you probably cut down your options a lot if they have to understand.
She gets too nervous to watch the games, moreso the last couple of years. Enjoys watching the replay when we win, but worries how I'm going to be when we lose.
Snuck out with friends on Halloween...wondering if I should set up a "playdate" for Saturday.
"Could you date a girl that didn't understand your obsession with UM football?"
If she wanted to make an effort to share my passions, absolutely.
If she made no effort to understand it but let me be to enjoy it when the season came around, party on.
If she didn't make an effort and complained bitterly "why are you spending time on this stupid football? This is so stupid, guys and their sports are stupid! Come here and try these comquats and watch the Twilight movie with me..." then f*** it.
If she was a rabid Ohio State fan and thus DID understand my obsession with UM football...tried that, ended after three weeks.
You made it 3 weeks? Kudos. My bitch of an ex complained every gameday and I missed a lot of the games bc of it. Glad I ended her..I mean it.
This is a joke to go along with my avatar. I wouldn't hurt a female.
Is she hot?
My fiancee is the original poster. I've always enjoyed football but didn't quite understand all the specifics. it's nice to have someone patiently explain the details of plays. Its made me enjoy the game much more. I didnt know he was such a fan and almost instinctively as the first gift i ever bought him was a michigan hat for valentines day. Now game day is like a religious holiday to us. We love to go to a2 and walk around, shop at Mden, get a beer. Cheer like maniacs at the game and drive home listening to the recap on the radio. its like a mini vacation, something special that the two of us have really bonded over. I think i own more uofm items than him now, and also named my new puppy "Maizey" Its also become a weird kind of Pavlovian thing for me. Gameday=horny. So guys, if you want her to become a fan, do like my guy did and make game a happy event. I cant wait to marry my best friend at our special place.... The Big House!!!!
I don't think it's working out for you two. What are you doing after the game?
Probably returning some videotapes.
Do you know what a fucking loser you are? You reek of shit.
There is a moment of sheer joy when I realize that OSU's stadium overlooks the ghetto... and is obviously less expensive than The Big House.
Appreciate the American Psycho References for anyone who didn't know how to interpret this poster!!
I've dated OSU fans in the past....doesn't really bother me considering I never take a women's opinion about sports seriously. If she's hot and puts out, I don't care. Most of the time I choose girls that don't want to watch sports with me. Nothing is more annoying then hearing their 2 cents, or their knowledge about the game. Their job is to sit there and look cute in their shirt.
My gf is an osu fan from birth but she really doesn't care and happily agrees with me on the hatred for Pryor. Still though she makes the snacks for the big game then must vacate the house until such time as the score has been settled.
Yeah man, the best girls always understand your obsession for it. The default rule is that a girl can't get mad at you no matter how much of an asshole you are when Michigan loses. (Aside from physcial abuse) If they do, they don't understand.
