For those interested, the Cotton Bowl just started on FOX (Channel 2 in SE Michigan). Texas A&M (10-2) versus Oklahoma (10-2), and Johnny Manziel just went Johnny Football on the Sooners for a TD if the call on the field is not overturned...
Cotton Bowl Open Thread
Dude's fuckin sweet!
Kevin Sumlin has to be thinking the same thing. 1st year head coach and he has a Heisman winner QB for the first 4 years barring injury etc...
You mean one more year before he can go pro?
I love Gus Johnson
Agreed. I say this board needs a heavy dose of Gus Johnson to make up for the previous threads.
Pretty fair ballplayer, that Johnny...
The first drive for the Aggies included two rushes of 24 and 23 yards from Manziel, as well as 25 yards of rushing from Ben Malena. Kevin Sumlin has a warp-capable offense in the SEC.
Johnny Manziel is the genuine article. Every play has big play potential. He's like Doug Flutie with Barry Sanders ability.
That this is gonna be an entertaining and high scoring game.
Johnny Manziel is like Tate Forcier with Denard's speed and Tom Brady's smarts
Fred Jackson's hyperbole.
I'm so sick of espn
Go Johnny go go, Johnny be good!
Apparently there is no "D" in Dallas tonight.
I hope the last college football season at Jerry's World is better than the first one of the season.
I joined the game late, and don't follow OU football much. Is Landry Jones injured? Saw he was on the bench with OU at the goal line.
Bell in wildcat
It makes me wish Denard would have learned to have that presence in the pocket and whirl around and avoid rushers with his great athletic ability, without panicking like he did so often before throwing an INT.
Am I being too harsh or truthful here?
Johnny has had ages to throw. His o line is stellar. Will be interesting to see how he fares next year... Denard does pretty well when he has ages to throw as well.
Son of Detroit.
Mack Brown and Texas offered Johnny Manziel and RG3......as DB's
That says a lot about why his offense sucks lately
A&M just seems like they can do whatever they want on offense.
Just looked at Oklahoma's results this year. They have given up a shit ton of points. 49 to WVU, 48 to Ok St and 34 to Baylor. Going to be a high scoring game tonight.
In the regular season, Oklahoma averaged 506 yards of offense per game, and Texas A&M averaged 552 yards of offense. Both teams also gave up almost 400 average yards on defense per game during the season, so the likelihood of this being a game where teams score almost at will is pretty darn high. The interesting thing is that, for both teams, those are middle-of-the-road defenses in their respective conferences.
Worse, I say this just as Oklahoma settles for three on another Sisyphean effort to get a touchdown. Stoops is apparently coaching an existential game.
I don't see any stuffed beavers on the sidelines.
is doing himself no harm. A&M still has a Big 12-caliber defense.
Under Armor Game? I wish they would have high school coaches coach that game instead of washed out guys like Mariucci and Edwards, who are more interested in self-promotion as opposed to coaching the game.
is maintaining that inset of the game during commercials...I like it a lot
Disagree. Dude can flat out fly. Had no idea he was this quick
Johnny Football had some nice jukes there. He looked better running the rock than any QB I've seen.
that is not offered on the Mitsubishi Evo.
Becomes int in the endzone...sad.
Bad throw by JF but you gotta make that catch.
Maybe ill advised but that was a perfect placement.
I wouldn't call that a bad throw. It looked weird but he seemed like he knew where he was going with it and it was right on target.
the librarian look, it works for me
She could dress like a janitor as far as I'm concerned.
It was a catchable ball and OU WAS totally offside.
Hurst with a sick first step and a sack!!
when he was a JR in HS when he played with Tate, I thought he was pretty impressive back then, I haven't been following him that closely in college, but his 6.2 YDC on only 83 carries indicates to me he should get more carries.
is good field position
that throw there is an example to me of why Jones is a pedestrian QB at best, especially on the next level.
what on earth were you thinking on that play
or does johnny football make you wish tate hadn't gone all tate on us?
I had the same thought
But Denard's legs were something amazing to watch.
Manziel has Denard's running ability but is calm and under control even when the blitz is coming. (Though I'd guess his O-line is better this year than ours...except Lewan who is a beast.)
Hurst with a sack in the marine game
...she checking that contact list.
someone is trolling you and neg-bangin'
Keep up the good work buddy, don't let it faze you
Aggie D has been on the field alot, do they have the depth for 4th quarter?
A LOT better in the 2nd half...OU defense is now gassed chasing Johnny Football all over Hell's half acre.
Is the semper fi game on tv?
NFL Network my man
Found it. Should have scrolled down a tad more. Thanks!
have been counted as a catch in the semper fi game, hogwash, he dropped it
was a drop but yeah he still got beat, so.....a redshirt is in order?
in this thread, or I wouldn't have known the game was on. But saying he was beat 3 times in a row is a little alarmist. And that last completion was great coverage, just a very well thrown ball that the WR made a play on (but really dropped - it shouldn't have been called a TD)
Manziel is overrated.
The game ain't even over, and Manziel has 485 total yds and 4 tds—22/34 for 287 and 2 tds through the air, and 198 yds and 2 tds on 16 carries running the ball. As a freshman.
In what bizarre universe of yours is that "overrated?"
Damn you Eddie George
Tim Biakabutuka FTW. 313 yards. I'll never forget it.
God Eddie George is an insufferable piece of shit.
Since his team is banned from bowl play because they are lying cheaters, naturally he roots against the Big Ten.
another annoying ohio player, fuck him. Pisses me off the way he enjoyed those 2 SCar plays they showed.
I enjoyed ohio not being able to go to a bowl cause they're cheating assholes
He's just bitter because his Heisman season he overshadowed by one game. Well, one man actually.
Man, some great Michigan players have worn that number...
Eddie didn't even deserve the Heisman. Tommie Frazier was a much better player
that was one scary effing team
If there is justice in this world, this will have been Ohio's best season in a long time.
What did the douche say? BTW, does anyone else's iPhone spellchecker try to automatically change the word "douche" to "Douchetonio"? I like the learn feature.
everybody that had insulting things to say about Eddie "My Heisman is Thumbless" George
Is it just me, or does eddie george look like a turtle?
I don't know.
Srsly, I have always thought he looked like something but could never put my finger on it. Thank you!
Dude's put on some weight since retirement.
Too many bitter Lions' fans.
We have that in common...he was considered a go-to option in Atlanta when Michael Vick got busted...his career here wasn't much better, but it didn't take the Falcons quite as long to figure out he wasn't the answer. Dude couldn't beat out Chris Redman (who?) for the starting gig.
Thank God for Matt Ryan.
It is becoming rather clear that, when Oklahoma attempts to defend against the run, they develop hysterical blindness to Johnny Manziel and/or Ben Malena, as evidenced on that option play. Either that, or this is the somewhat typical Bob Stoops "Expect The Expected" scheme.
I find this game much more entertaining than last night's Oregon / K-State game.
that Oregon was off their game (Chip Kelly distraction?) and still scored 35 points.
But yeah, this game is a lot better even though A&M is starting to pull away.
Diving with the Stars? So You Think You Can Dive? I'll stop now.
Seems like Fox is always trying to be the worst. I haven't watched anything besides sports on that channel in years.
I bet he leaves after next year, keeping the record safe
I don't think so. I think he'll be a 3 year starter. Due to his stature, I think he'll need to show scouts a bit more than 2 years.
Did Texas A&M copy Wisconsin's fight song, or was it the other way around? It's the same tune.
which used "There'll Be a Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight" as its fight song prior to the adoption of "The Victors"
Oklahoma has no idea what the fuck to do...jeez
about Manziel is his on-field smarts...when he runs the zone read he NEVER takes the wrong option and gets stuck with a loss for putting the ball in the wrong hands. And his footwork...dude looks like Muhammad Ali in the backfield with the ball...he just doesn't pivot the wrong way and end up sacked. Ever. Just a beautiful player to watch.
He actually really is. The footwork thing is something I've finally noticed tonight (after watching a few A&M games this year it was more social times out and about). For being a smaller guy he really makes up for it in speed (duh), smarts, and technique.
Man I wish Michigan would have gotten a chance to play high-flying Johnny Manziel and his A&M squad in a bowl game...
..said none of us...
Johnny Manzel reminds me of Tate Forcier In both style and attitude. He's obviously a lot better but he has that one in a million dip shit cocky smile that reminds me of old T Force
what is up with all the Ohio-love on ESPN? Are these promotions by the NCAA? I'm sorry but that 1 minute ad showing their practices drives me nuts. Then they show the plays of the year and some bomb by Miller to a wide open receiver is included. (I didn't see if it won them the game or anything, but honestly, their season only affected records for a few teams.)
That D-Line just made a huge mistake. When chasing a scrambling QB, never jump unless the ball is already in the air. You're just going to watch as he runs around your airborne body
"Diving Show" will take a dive in the ratings after half a show or somethimg
Also, Johnny makes things happen man. He has led his team to a 3 TD lead in 4th QT against a strong program historically and currently.
I just don't understand how a schol like A&M got god overnight. It feels like it takes us forever to rebuild from Rich Rod. These guys have sucked forever, and suddenly they're an excellent team.
19-7 Hoke has gone against tough odds, not his perfect type of squad and we've improved our defense big time.
It's only gonna get better. The teams we lost to this year had a combined record of 57-7 and we were in every game and had the lead in a couple on the road with some bad luck.
We'll be fine
I know the Alabama game was a long time ago and all, but it was 31-0 before we scored a single point.
Sorry for that omission, I meant to indicate that and got caught up in my comment.
...they've been one of those "almost" programs for awhile. Like how Florida was before Spurrier started coaching there. Now they've got a different coach, a QB that so far looks like he's light years beyond the skill of the guy they just lost to the first round of the NFL draft, and as crazy as it sounds, playing in the ESS EEE SEE has elevated their preparation for what they're seeing tonight.
Hey, I thought they were out of their minds...they blew what, a 20-point lead in the 2nd half last year to a WEAK Texas Longhorns team and then they decide they're putting on the big boy pants moving over to the same DIVISION (nevermind conference) as Alabama and LSU? And they lose two (very close) conference games their first year, whip Saban in Tuscaloosa, and are showing just how much further behind they've left their old conference behind by pushing Oklahoma around in the Cotton Bowl.
Think about Auburn...they were a mediocre (at best) team before sCam Newton showed up and won every game he played. Two years after he left they're not even bowl-eligible and their coach is fired. There are players on this year's team who have National Championship rings, fergodsake.
College football...sometimes it's a strange game.
And won a big bowl game in the first year of their new coach from a mid major.
Last year Michigan was 11-2, 2nd in their division, and won a big bowl game in the first year of their new coach from a mid major.
What a touch. Being able to throw like that, too? Just ain't fair.
Wow, just Wow.
LOL at anyone comparing manziel to tate forcier, this guy has earned the right to be cocky, did you just see that perfect throw? Even good forcier probably never makes that throw.
Probably not. Hence the...he's a lot better. I was referencing the laisse fair style and cocky shit head grin
Mansfield has a great offensive line. He has tons of time to throw.
Devin Gardner > Landry jones
A&M flashing that ESS EEE CEE Defense and a lot of Manziel offense too.
100% chance the aTm fans chant SEC SEC SEC
I guess at this point Stoops and the rest of the big twelve(ish) are thinking it's a good thing A&M left the conference. The SEC is praying that A&M dont pick up a ton of recruits and depth after the Flordia debalce and this game.
Manziel's over 200 yards rushing and they're up by TD's with less than 5:00 to play. Sit him before he gets hurt on a flukey pointless play.
run that was by Johnny and he still avoided getting clobbered despite running up the gut and over to the sideline
the kid is just a natural
is a damn good team and they just got whooped
why didn't you try and help recruit Johnny to AA?
At 229 yards rushing and 287 yards passing out of his team's 633 yards of total offense, Manziel's arm and legs are responsible insome fashion for about 80% of the Aggie's yards.
As it stands, this game will end with 1,031 yards of total offense from both teams combined, meaning Johnny Football was almost literally half this offense in the game. Wow.
And then consider the times when Denard's offensive numbers actually exceeded Michigan's total offensive stats for certain games during his career in Ann Arbor (I know it's happened more than once, most recently this past year against the USAFA).
The perspective is that Johnny Football is most of A&M's offense, but there have been times when Denard was all of Michigan's. Which is one of many reasons I will always love Denard.
I can't stand watching them play because of their fight song - THE MOST ANNOYING FIGHT SONG EVER!
It is the only song their band knows, and they play it anytime they move the ball at least an inch.
I usually have to watch their games on mute, but Johnny shut them up last night. It was funny to listen to them struggle to find something positive to play for.
I honestly don't know how the fans, players & even the band members don't bash their own heads in with a pipe by the second quarter each game.
