Copper Bowl T-Shirt

Submitted by mark5750 on

I did a site search and found nothing so before I start SIAP

Unlike the majority of the community I am kind of excited that we get the Copper Bowl instead of the Gator Bowl because I currently live in Arizona and actually get to see a Michigan game live even if it is a mediocre bowl to end a mediocre season.  My question is this: Will or Can the MGoStore make actual Copper Bowl T-Shirts or is this too far on the copyright infringement side of things?  If this is possible I have to believe it would be more popular than the BDubs Bowl T-Shirts that are currently available but would the demand be enough to actually make it happen?

Why is it not known as the Wild Wings Copper Bowl instead of just the Wild Wings Bowl? They should have kept the original name of the bowl and just added on if possible. Its current name makes it sound like a cheap arena football game or something.

I mean, that's one the reasons I wanted the Gator Bowl more. Maybe that's dumb, I don't know. It's the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl but you don't have to say you're playing in the TaxSlayer.com Bowl. Maybe it's partly due to leftover frustration from the season, but this annoys me.

I was just messing with photoshop a bit. Not sure if it's possible to print something like that or not. I would be willing to print some if people liked them, but I also don't want to get in trouble. It's just simply the old Copper Bowl logo in Maize and Blue with the two teams and date.

I imagine the Copper Bowl logo was at one time trademarked.  I wonder if someone (BWW?) owns the Copper Bowl trademarks?

Then of course you have the issue of licensing the University logos.

But if you made a maize and blue shirt that said "CU at the Copper Bowl" you might be fine.**  I would buy one.

Yeah my shirt was a fun idea, but I've found out that I would have to pay royalties and get it approved by both universities technically. I think you could probably get away with the idea you had, simply because it doesn't include any logos. Not to mention the bowl hasn't been the Copper Bowl for a while.

A little digging suggests that Copper Bowl logo is trademarked, by the (presumably dissolved) Copper Bowl Foundation, and the link below gives contact information for a defunct law firm.

I would 10X much rather have a Copper Bowl shirt than a BWW Bowl shirt. Any takers on contacting the guy and asking for permission to license the logo for a small batch of shirts?
