Copper Bowl Open Thread, MSU vs. TCU

Submitted by M-Wolverine on

The Alamo Bowl is going to run late so they'll probably start it on ESPNU or something. I don't know if I picked TCU because I thought they would win or I just wanted to root against MSU. Either way it made te night easier.

The hockey team has drove me to throw the Coke Zero aside and start drinking. Hopefully TCU beats them down and I can have something to laugh at.

This again?  Why do the announcers have to mention several times a game that MSU's losses have been so close?  They're not the first team college football team in history to lose close games.

Not really.  I've watched most of MSU's games this year and the announcers always make some shit up when they're bored.  Like how proud Sparty is when they get a 2 star recruit that chose them over Michigan.  Or when their players rack up several personal fouls and the announcers say Dantonio won't be happy with that kind of play because he's the "Dean of discipline."

Heh.

I am ecstatic that this game is being inflicted on the American public at 10:30 pm on a Saturday night.  This is the rock fight everyone dreamt of when this game was announced.

I heard Dantonio on the radio, mentioned the close losses and that they were almost a 10-win team this year (then backed off, said 'our record is our record', related coachspeak).  I love that this is his approach.  That kind of thinking has surely leaked into his team (and the Sparty fanbase).

No one seems to mention that they won 3 games by a combined 11 points.  One of those in OT, and another against Indiana.  And the Eastern game was much closer than the score indicated.  Granted they won these games and should get credit for them.  Just as they should take the blame for the losses.  They were as close to 4-8 as they were to 8-4.

Unfortunately Michigan was within a play of losing to this embarrassment of an offensive team at home, and add in the Northwestern game and the same could be said about Michigan being just as close to 6-6.

The offenses overall in the Big Ten were just not very impressive so it is hard to say if the defensive performances were all that either.  The chicken or the egg concept.

Lost our QB against Nebraska. Heck, could have beat OSU. Maybe 6-6 to 10-2 sounds better than 4-8 to 8-4. (I mean really, we play a nice baby seal OOC schedule we're 10-2 and in a BCS game)

ND turnoverfest and Denard injury in NE disclaimers apply.  Ohio game was winnable in Columbus.  But that's a fan talking, and even I wouldn't make a serious argument that Michigan was 3 games better than our actual record.

Hoke - unlike Dantonio - is not running around telling people Michigan was almost an 11-win team, is the point.

*shrug*

I think that's just football. Look at the Lions, the same could be said.  Some lucky bounces make them a 10-win (LUCKY) team and some bad ones make them 4-12.  Just how the game goes.  All teams at all levels are exposed to good and bad breaks, surprise recruits, bust recruits, surprise draft picks, etc etc etc.

Tom still gets mentioned as causing havoc in the backfields all year.....only thing that I can think is that they are watching practices because he seems to have had one good game in the last two years against Georgia in the bowl game last year.

Strange to see All American Gholston on the sideline when TCU is in the red zone.  I have to presume it was because Dantonio did not want to hurt the Horned Frogs this early by unleashing the beast in such a crucial situation.

Posts like this are just silly. You see a thread about MSU and take the time out of your night to open it and make a post acknowledging that you do not, in fact, care. Bravo. The power of denial is strong in this one.

Look - the B1G this year was full of lame offenses with marginal QB play.   The raankings the announcers refer to do not account for the strength of opponents offense

Being that the BW3 bowl is the replacement to the Insight Bowl name, will they still play for that beautiful Sammy The Sperm Trophy?

How many true and redshirt freshman did we role out this year? Wasn't it close to 14 for true fresh?

So many drinking games could be played watching this game.

Take a shot every time MSU's close losses are mentioned, every time that clip of Le'veon Bell hurdling that Boise State player is shown and every time ESPN shows that Lexus December to remember commercial.
