Congratulations, U-M Graduating Class of 2013

Submitted by chatster on

Hail to all members of the University of Michigan's graduating Class of 2013.  Congratulations, best wishes and in the words of a Minnesota Man, "May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung, and may you stay forever young!"

And for those of you who might be "singing Radiohead at the top of (y)our lungs" and planning to "live like rock stars and dance on every bar" during your final days in Ann Arbor, wishing you could "stay forever," Here’s To Never Growing Up!

Congrats and welcome to the greatest group on the planet - Michigan Alumni.  Seriously, the doors they will a-open if you work hard, work smart, and make connections with your now fellow alumni.

Both full-time jobs I've had since graduating were direct results of networking within the many UM Alumni networks.  That name, as always, looks great on a resume too, but just like the Ivies, one of the real values of your degree comes from the networking - at least that's been my experience.

Now you can complain about the students showing up late and yell "down in front" at that guy making noise.

Congratulations to the Class Of 2013, and welcome to the fine ranks of University of Michigan alumni / alumnae. You have access to a valuable resource - your fellow graduates and alums - and with some work, you can definitely go places. It has helped me move up where I am certainly.

Best of luck in all that you do, and forever and always, Go Blue!

As a senior who just took my last UofM final a couple days ago, thanks for the well wishes.  I still can't believe I'm done.  It's been the best four years of my life so far, and I'll always love the school.  I'm exctied for the next chapter, but I'm really sad to leaving Ann Arbor.  Best damn town/city in the world.

If you have a job secured, try to convince them to not make you start till August or September (if you can afford bleeding money). It's going to be your last summer off till you're 60 so enjoy some time off youngbloods

And even if you think you cannot afford it, try to pull it off.

If you're coming out of school without crazy debt compared to your starting salary (the rule of thumb is your debt shouldn't be greater than your starting salary, but that can be stretched... mine was nearly twice as much as my salary and I'm doing fine) go somewhere.

Do something!  Find someway to borrow a couple thousand dollars from mom & pop if you can.  If you have the money now and can spend it comfortably before your paychecks start, do it!

2k may seem like a ton of money now, but I don't think anybody would regret spending $2k on a once in a lifetime trip when they are 30/40+ years old.

Of course, this is all as long as you are otherwise smart with your money (which includes not even thinking of using credit cards for this type of thing).

Here's to my six years at the University of Michigan... as a Ph.D. student. Will attend the Rackham graduation AND go to the Big House. I guess I am most proud of the fact that of all 14 football games I attended, we won all of them.

Hail and go blue for life.
