Congratulations to msu

As much as I hate it, Dantonio is an incredible coach. 2 conference titles in the last 4 years, a 12 win season this year. Sparty No is dead. The Spartans are not going away.

Dantonio and Urban will be equally as hard to defeat for the near future.

Thank you for shutting up osu, though.

Why should we have patience? We have better facilities, better recruiting, better national coverage, better school, etc. If anything, this should be a wake up call. Starting with much less, Mark Dantonio had MSU going 11-2 in year 4. Do you expect that next year? He's beaten MSU's rivals more often than not. Do you expect to win any of the road games next year? Hoke's literally never beaten a ranked team on the road in a decade of coaching. He hasn't beaten a winning team on the road at Michigan.

There is no guarantee time will mean anything.  Either the coach is the right coach or not.  None of us know.  A lot of bad or average coaches in year 3, remain bad or average in year 7...if they last that long.

You nor I know what Hoke will become or where he will take the team.   Getting another 4 years means nothing.  It could be the same 3-4-5 loss team in 4 years.  More time is a guarantee of nothing.

If you want to use the MSU example, Dantonio took over a demolished program gutted by Bobby Williams and John L Smith.  John L Smith had seaons of 4-5 wins in the 3 years before Dantonio showed up.  In year 3 he had the dorm incident which imploded his team.  Then the next year he began a string of 11 win seasons back to back, then a bad year last year, and another 11+ win this year.  With far less salary than Hoke can pay people, with far worse recruits (on paper), with less facilities, with less brand, with less ability to go get top 100 players.   And if you truly think Dantonio had more to work with after John L Smith than Brady did with RR recruits than I guess you are on a different page.

But whatever the case giving a coach another 4 years doesnt mean squat - a coach is the coach and he will be what he will be.  If Hoke is a great coach we will bear fruits soon, if he is average we will be in the same drain for another 4 years.  I have no idea.  But just giving a person time doesnt mean improvement.  If John L Smith was given another decade at MSU what would it have meant?  The only place I can give Brady "elite" marks is recruiting; and loving Michigan.  On all other counts he has thus far graded anywhere from average to good.

You are quite possibly the most ignorant person I have encountered on this board. For somebody that is apparently so appalled by a thread that congratulates MSU for a great season, you sure are posting a lot on it. This thread isn't about you or your warped ideas of what it means to be a Michigan fan. You lack anything resembling class or dignity. It truly bothers me that we are fans of the same team.

I'll bet Fickell is gone -- Urbie will solve his problem. Brady should fix his Borges problem, but will not. I'm getting pissed all over again just thinking about it.

Some of you are completly forgetting that msu had an easy schedule this year, their hardest game was uofm, once they went over that hump, it was easy...
will see msu next year with osu and uofm in the same division

Concur.  Gratz Lil Bro.  Any time a Michigan team beats an Ohio team it's a good thing, unless it directly costs UM in the standings.  Glad you're in the spotlight and glad you brought Urbz back down to Earth.  Not glad to see OSU run all over your D proving even moreso that my lovely avatar lacks the imagination, schemes and coaching capacity to succeed in the BiG.

The level of MSU defense is once in a decade for the Big 10.  UM can aspire to it but aside from the 97 team we have not had a defense like that.   And no the MSU defense is not perfect nor was our 97 defense but the standard is set there at the college level, at least in the Midwest.

I look at OSU as more realistic - they get the same type of recruits we get and right now I think the 2 defenses sort of grade out quite equally.  My worry is theirs is coached by a guy that can easily be improved upon (Fickell) whereas we have about the best coordinator we can expect.  And the defense is not uber young - but the older guys were recruited by a guy who did not emphasize defense.

Right now the 2 staffs doing the most with least on defense are MSU and Iowa.  Iowa lacks the playmakers MSU has other than at LBs.  But both are fundamentally sound and the players improve and develop.  MSU has done a better job of recruiting the fast twitch athlete.   In comparison right now OSU and UM are getting high level recruits but have not put it together... for OSU I think its due to the coordinator and youth in LB and secondary, with UM I hope its not the coordinator and because the talent is in the very young players.

It would be very interesting in a theoretical world to switch out Iowa and MSU defensive coaching staffs for 2 years with OSU and UM's and see what they could do with the type of talent those 2 programs have access with.   Or maybe MSU is at that next stage where 4 star recruits take them seriously.  Whatever the case there needs to be improvement... MSU has built what Hoke talks about.  Now we have to see if Hoke and Mattison can deliver in the next 24 months as it will be all their kids and no more excuses.

Just finished it up o the DVR.  MSU plays good football and as a football fan I like watching good football.  Congrats to Sparty.  Hoke, Brandon, et al know what we need to do and we're doing it.  Be patient. Our time will come.

The thing I keep clinging to is that MSU went 7-6 last year because of an endless string of close losses due to an inconsistent offense. That sounds...familiar. I hope we make a run like theirs next year, though good fucking luck to the boys having to travel to South Bend, East Lansing, and Columbus next fall.

I'm glad Sparty won, as strange as that feels to say.  I had to laugh when I heard Gus mention "little brother".  I also had to laugh at the "Burn the Couch" sign, and the Spartan fan with a sign that used the $ instead of an S, in OSU.

All kidding aside, congrats to Sparty.  They really do have a great Defense.  I have to give respect where respect is due.  They beat us, and they beat OSU.  At the end of the day, they are going to the Rose Bowl, and we're going to the Ax Body Spray Tax Slayer Bowl, or whatever it's called.

But we'll be back next year.  Our head is bloody, but unbowed.

Also everyone remember this: This is now the 7th or 8th time a team from Michigan has ruined osu's undefeated season. THAT is the reason they hate the entire state of Michigan.

Also if a sparty friend/coworker of yours tries to talk shit, just say to them ''Yeah congratulations, I was rooting for you to beat osu. Good luck in Pasadena.'' They'll never know what hit em and they'll lose a little bit of their bragging rights because it irritates them that Michigan would root for them because they would never do the same.

We have a long ways to go to be where MSU and OSU are at regarding football.

We are mediocre and must find a way to win more than 7 games, maybe 8 games a year

I think MSU has beaten us what 6 of the last 7?
