Wow. Just wow.
fair point that
Wow. Just wow.
Taylor Lewan is a captain of the Michigan football team. At ease, soldier.
Fortunately, I just had an OSU friend on Facebook remind me why I'm ever so slightly glad MSU won:
"I'll take a small victory in watching all the "fans" from that School up North jumping ship and riding MSU's coat tails. We still won that one (again) and no bandwagon can change that."
Ah, yes. I'm pissed about losing tonight, so I'll clutch at straws to somehow make it about the team we scraped by last week.
Oh, wait, looks like he's not clutching at straws.
Can you explain to me how congratulating a team = jumping on their coat tails? That doesn't make sense.
I personally wouldn't congratulate someone whom I know would never reciprocate it, but if it makes you feel like a better sport, then by all means. However, some people are taking it past that and damn near flirting with, "Thanks, Sparty, for doing what we couldn't", by mocking OSU for losing, like it was their own team who beat them or something.
I had plenty of Sparty buddies congratulate me after Gibbons ripped their hearts out last year.
I'm not talking about your close friends congratulating YOU, I'm talking about average Sparty saying, "Good job, Michigan". Not saying it's nonexistent, but it's isolated. I've never seen such an Internet meltdown as I saw when Michigan advanced to the National Championship Game back in April. I saw more State fans having a shit fit over it than I saw Michigan fans celebrating it.
Look, I really don't think there's anything wrong with going on your own Facebook or Twitter or whatever and congratulating Sparty. I'll pass, but that's because I know the State fans I'm friends with would see it as some weak attempt to join in the festivities. But starting a thread on a Michigan fan blog...just kind of a bridge too far, I think.
A bridge to where? It's simply saying nice job.
Sorry, historical reference. I get that it's just "nice job", I just don't think this is the forum for it is all. Just something we differ on, it appears.
Exactly, flash. That is just his way of taking out his frustration and making himself feel better. Fuck their dumb ass fans. They are the most spoiled sons of bitches on Earth. Now that they lost their first game out of 25 games, they're freaking out and getting pissed. Good lord...what I would not do or give to see how loyal they are if their team has gone through what ours has in the past decade. I have a good feeling that they would not be traveling to away games so much and obsessing over their team so much.
This. This exactly.
I don't love MSU. I ALWAYS want Michigan to beat them. But man, they did a great job. Without a bunch of 4 stars, they've built a great defense. Connor Cook has done a good job in his first year starting. They adjusted during the game, and really took it to Ohio. They deserve to be congratulated. Give credit where it is due. Mattison, Lewan, Hoke, would all do the same thing.
I really don't understand the jerks who are such sore losers they can't congratulate the winner in a clean, hard fought battle. You play hard, you do your best, and sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. I'm glad for MSU, even though I don't like them. You remind me of the brats and bullies who storm off when they don't win a game. Life lesson: no one wants to play with you or be around you when that's who you are. It is that attitude, whether at Ohio, or MSU, or ND, or Michigan, or the SEC, that I absolutely can't stand. Don't be that guy.
One other thing about MSU, I think they'll represent well in the Rose Bowl. I don't think their going to roll over for Stanford. I'm tired of sending Big10 teams to bowls to see them whipped. I'd like to see MSU's defense put the hurt on Stanford. And I agree with readers who want to see every Big10 team win their bowl game.
Well said; SRK.
State had a great season and won when it counted most. I hate Dantonio also, but he is an excellent coach and his staff is developing talent into great football players. They play with an edge, like Michigan used to before 2007.
I rooted for OSU to lose and when Langford ran up the middle to put the final nail in the coffin, I did tha quiet "YES!" State deserves the credit.
But, I will still root for Stanford in the Rose Bowl. And for whoever plays OSU in a bowl game, or any game, anywhere, any time. I fuckin' hate OSU with every fiber of my being.
Credit where credit is due is one thing. State out manned our asses this year. Still, congratualting them for winning the B1G is a bit overkill. If Wiscy came out of the Leaders and State beat them would there be a thread? Don't think so.
They won 0 national or Big Ten titles.
At first I thought it would be better for Ohio to win in order to keep MSU from claiming that they go to the Rose Bowl. Then I realized that little factoid and it made me feel much better.
...and no NC for Ohio...awesome.
And not even a Big Ten title.
Now imagine how Alabama must feel. They go from All Time Dynasty in CFB history . . . to not even winning their division in the SEC. All on one play.
It is best we just end this discussion since we'll never agree. I will never change my ways and neither will you guys.
Yup; take your ball and go home. That way you never have to acknowledge the fact that you're a d-bag.
Yup I'm a dick.
Yes you've made your point.
If the tables were turned would a group of OSU fans start a post saying congrats to Michigan, for a well deserved championship. I bet yes. Would a group of folks at RCMB do it? No. But that's ok. Everytime I see your post I think of Bo and it sort of disgusts me - do you think Bo would not shake someone's hand after and congratulate them if they were facing head to head. Just because you are not ON the team doesnt mean you cannot take that same attitude. No one here is claiming to "like" Sparty, or "enjoy" what the fuck is happening tonight. Most of us came in tonight with 2 bad choices.
But your attitude reminds of me of Isiah thomas after the Bulls finally beat the Pistons after years of trying. Thomas led a walkout without congratulating the Bulls. Just recently he admitted that was wrong. Meanwhile after the Pistons beat the Celtics - the hated Celtics mind you - they congratulated the Pistons and told them to go kick the Lakers ass. So in your world unless you are on the Pistons team itself you could never acknowledge the Bulls did something good. Because they are a hated rival, and only players on the team itself could ever acknowledge another teams achievement. That is seriously backwards.
MSU has done more with less, and took down a big boy program with bigger money, bigger coaching salaries, bigger resources, and better recruits. And they are a lot like the Pistons of those years who came close until they finally broke through. To sit in an echo chamber with a few others who have their hands over their eyes screaming at the top of their lungs that everything is evil is just immature.
If you have kids, after a soccer game I guess it is ok to have the kids shake hands, but if a parent from the other team walked by, and it was a 'hated rival' you would avoid eye contact and or swear at them - because that is how you and a small group of people are acting here. I now see what people say when they say Walmart Wolverines, it is pretty disgusting.
I go to Michigan and pee wee soccer isn't big time college football. I don't swear at opposing fans ever. I boo the team when they come on the field (Is this allowed according to you self righteous fan coaches?). I cheer on our team and go home. Hockey games are a million times worse for the person who thinks it's a requirement to congratulate the other team. The crowd chants pretty vulgar stuff.
Well I am sorry to hear that then, and that is your attitude. You'd fit in perfect on RCMB then - maybe you need to find the RCMB equivalent of MGoBlog.
Yup I do.
In hockey every playoff series ends with a handshake line fergodsakes. After guys have been decapitating each other. This is one of the things a lot of hockey fans enjoy about the sport
I think M fans need to look at Dantonio and his tenure at MSU. He wasn't anything special early in the tenure, but look at what he has done in seven years. Two Big Ten titles, some double digit win seasons, and now he is going to the Rose Bowl. I'd say that is pretty good in a seven-year stretch. M fans and the administration NEEDS to have more patience with Hoke and his crew. Sure, we want immediate success, but that doesn't happen very often.
You're saying that we should have the same standards as MSU? This is THE Rose Bowl that they're going to, as in, the one Spartan fans for sure go to because this is likely their one chance. You're looking at the wrong rival and the standards (and process) that they have for hiring and firing coaches.
I never even came close to suggesting we have the same standards. I said, quite clearly of course, that we just need to have patience with our coach. I'm sorry you cannot understand that.
Why should we have patience? We have better facilities, better recruiting, better national coverage, better school, etc. If anything, this should be a wake up call. Starting with much less, Mark Dantonio had MSU going 11-2 in year 4. Do you expect that next year? He's beaten MSU's rivals more often than not. Do you expect to win any of the road games next year? Hoke's literally never beaten a ranked team on the road in a decade of coaching. He hasn't beaten a winning team on the road at Michigan.
I'll gladly take what msu has done the last four years. Two conference titles, three 11 win seasons, one 12 win season. They're likely going to be ranked #4 in the country tomorrow. That would get us in the playoff next year.
There is no guarantee time will mean anything. Either the coach is the right coach or not. None of us know. A lot of bad or average coaches in year 3, remain bad or average in year 7...if they last that long.
You nor I know what Hoke will become or where he will take the team. Getting another 4 years means nothing. It could be the same 3-4-5 loss team in 4 years. More time is a guarantee of nothing.
If you want to use the MSU example, Dantonio took over a demolished program gutted by Bobby Williams and John L Smith. John L Smith had seaons of 4-5 wins in the 3 years before Dantonio showed up. In year 3 he had the dorm incident which imploded his team. Then the next year he began a string of 11 win seasons back to back, then a bad year last year, and another 11+ win this year. With far less salary than Hoke can pay people, with far worse recruits (on paper), with less facilities, with less brand, with less ability to go get top 100 players. And if you truly think Dantonio had more to work with after John L Smith than Brady did with RR recruits than I guess you are on a different page.
But whatever the case giving a coach another 4 years doesnt mean squat - a coach is the coach and he will be what he will be. If Hoke is a great coach we will bear fruits soon, if he is average we will be in the same drain for another 4 years. I have no idea. But just giving a person time doesnt mean improvement. If John L Smith was given another decade at MSU what would it have meant? The only place I can give Brady "elite" marks is recruiting; and loving Michigan. On all other counts he has thus far graded anywhere from average to good.
......don't u think there is a "Congratulations to Auburn" thread going on right now on the Alabama equivalent of MGoBlog discussing how great Gus Malzahn is?
hell no and there wouldn't be a thread on any other college football team's board in the country congratulating a rival.
Is that the standard we hold ourselves to at Michigan? Alabama fans?
Apparently it's University of Penn fans. Quakers.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm done.
Here's an FB page full of Bama fans congratulating Auburn. This blog is in a nadir.
You are quite possibly the most ignorant person I have encountered on this board. For somebody that is apparently so appalled by a thread that congratulates MSU for a great season, you sure are posting a lot on it. This thread isn't about you or your warped ideas of what it means to be a Michigan fan. You lack anything resembling class or dignity. It truly bothers me that we are fans of the same team.
WIAB and RDT going on here?
We've got that much more class. Or at least most of us do.
MSU is little brother. That means that when they succeed against OSU, our nemesis, we're happy.
...the game. Sparty was going to Rose Bowl win or lose...so I prefer Sparty go to the Rose Bowl and Ohio NOT go to the NC Game. I am ecstatic.
But thank you for enlightening me on Michigan's rivalries.
Auburn is their OSU. I'd fully expect a congrats Missouri thread had they beaten Auburn tonight.
Well...I now know that Ohio is our chief nemesis...and that Auburn is Alabama's. Thank you and good night!
My wife is an Auburn alumna from Alabama and her FB page is filled with 'Bama fans giving their congrats and wanting to keep the crystal football in the state. People with class congratulate the winners, people without it make inconsolable posts.
I'll bet Fickell is gone -- Urbie will solve his problem. Brady should fix his Borges problem, but will not. I'm getting pissed all over again just thinking about it.
Fickell will be gone and Muschamp will be D coordinator.
