Congratulations to msu

As much as I hate it, Dantonio is an incredible coach. 2 conference titles in the last 4 years, a 12 win season this year. Sparty No is dead. The Spartans are not going away.

Dantonio and Urban will be equally as hard to defeat for the near future.

Thank you for shutting up osu, though.

Let's look on the bright side. We can't get anything back now and luckily this means the Big Ten should have more favorable match-ups because OSU will be in a different bowl than the NC. Which helps the Big Ten look good. And then there is also the fact that MSU will only return 4 starters on their defense next year. they also lose a decent amount of their 2 deep on defense.

This is probably the best MSU team we will see in a very long time, and I'm not being disrespectful, because Dantonio is a pretty good coach. But, Narduzzi probably leaves now after this year. MSU will go to work with only 4 returning starters and they'll be very young next year. So, honestly this is probably the best MSU team we'll see in a long time. That group of guys with Dennard, Lewis, Bullough, etc have been great for MSU. They'll probably be the best senior group MSU will have in a long, long time.

Luck had nothing to do with it. Dantonio is a good coach and so is Narduzzi. But, as my comments below elude to, this senior class has helped hold the defense together. It's legitimately a special class of players and losing them will make a big impact on MSU.

Now, Dantonio will have the defense ready next year and they'll still be one of the best in the Big Ten. But, losing 4 of 6 in the two deep at linebacker, plus losing two of the best secondary players MSU has had in a long time will hurt. If Drummond goes pro, then that hurts even more.

So yes, MSU will continue having a good defense, but it'll be a while before we see MSU be this elite again. This class did a lot in the way of helping as other senior leaders left. Most of this class has contributed significantly for 3+ years, which you won't find often.

Sorry to be Debbie Downer, but State returns plenty on that defense next year, including 7 starters.  That Ed Davis backup LB was a monster aganst us and last night.  That other CB they have is almost as good as Dennard already.  They'll really miss Bullough though.

Don't think their D will be as good, but it's still going to be one of the best defenses in the B1G if not the best again.  The days of thinking MSU is only good because of a group of special seniors are gone, they have developed a ton of depth on that team, especially on defense.  Watched the game with some MSU fans and every other guy who made a play for them they'd tell me how that guy is a sophomore or a freshman.

I don't expect or want MSU to come back to us, I want us to come up to them and beat them at their best.

These guys are all Seniors:

NT Reynolds, DE Hoover, LB Allen, LB Bullough, CB Darqueze Dennard, and S Lewis.

They also lose: Kyler Elsworth, back-up linebacker to Bullough. Denzel Drone back-up defensive end to Rush. Jairus Jones, back-up linebacker to Taiwan Jones.

I think the loss of Bullough will be much like the loss of Manti for Notre Dame. They also lose 2 of 3 starters and 4 of 6 in the two deep. Yes they return Davis and they'll have Taiwan Jones, but losing Bullough and Allen will hurt more than you think.

This is also assuming no one announces they're going pro or decides to transfer. And yes they're good coaches, so it's Mattison. But it takes time to get used to playing at game speed and they'll be young next year. Some of those guys have been starting for 3 years, and contributing for all 4. You don't just replace that. The reason they've been so good at filling in other holes in the defense, is because of this class. This senior class was so good, they could help bridge the gap when MSU was replacing other guys. Now, they lose this class. I don't think people understand how much it will hurt the defense next year.

Yes, MSU is going to always have a good defense. But this years defense was elite and probably realistically the best in the country. Next year they'll probably be near the top in the Big Ten, but certainly not elite like this year. It's just not realistic to think they'll be almost as good this year. The impact that losing this class makes will be seen.

Nope I don't. I'll gladly be the insufferable asshole or whatever else you want to call a fan who doesn't like his rival than root for them or congratulate them. That goes for ND or Ohio State too. I don't root for injuries. I welcome their fans to the big house whenever we play and never say anything innappropriate to their fans. I feel like if you do those things you are alright as a fan. I'm not sure why you guys care so much that I hate them and never will like them.

The lesser of two evils won today. Congrats sparty. Hope Stanford wipes the floor with them though and I'm looking forward to Ohio possibly having to play Alabama. Next year could be interesting with Ohio and sparty rebuilding and Michigan bringing back a young talented team with tons of potential. Go Blue!

You don't have to say congrats especially when they're one of your two biggest rivals. If I was playing the game then yeah I would give them a handshake at the end, but I'm not going to go out of my way and start an MSU appreciation thread.

@ThadMattasgoblin - Taylor Lewan tweeted congratulations to MSU right after the game ended. You're on here trying to convince everyone you're the only true fan because you refuse to display the least bit of class and dignity while the captain of THE ACTUAL TEAM just did what your pretending is the worst thing ever. Get lost man.

Fortunately, I just had an OSU friend on Facebook remind me why I'm ever so slightly glad MSU won:

"I'll take a small victory in watching all the "fans" from that School up North jumping ship and riding MSU's coat tails. We still won that one (again) and no bandwagon can change that."

Ah, yes. I'm pissed about losing tonight, so I'll clutch at straws to somehow make it about the team we scraped by last week.

Oh, wait, looks like he's not clutching at straws.

I personally wouldn't congratulate someone whom I know would never reciprocate it, but if it makes you feel like a better sport, then by all means. However, some people are taking it past that and damn near flirting with, "Thanks, Sparty, for doing what we couldn't", by mocking OSU for losing, like it was their own team who beat them or something.

I'm not talking about your close friends congratulating YOU, I'm talking about average Sparty saying, "Good job, Michigan". Not saying it's nonexistent, but it's isolated. I've never seen such an Internet meltdown as I saw when Michigan advanced to the National Championship Game back in April. I saw more State fans having a shit fit over it than I saw Michigan fans celebrating it.

Look, I really don't think there's anything wrong with going on your own Facebook or Twitter or whatever and congratulating Sparty. I'll pass, but that's because I know the State fans I'm friends with would see it as some weak attempt to join in the festivities. But starting a thread on a Michigan fan blog...just kind of a bridge too far, I think.

Exactly, flash. That is just his way of taking out his frustration and making himself feel better. Fuck their dumb ass fans. They are the most spoiled sons of bitches on Earth. Now that they lost their first game out of 25 games, they're freaking out and getting pissed. Good lord...what I would not do or give to see how loyal they are if their team has gone through what ours has in the past decade. I have a good feeling that they would not be traveling to away games so much and obsessing over their team so much.

I don't love MSU. I ALWAYS want Michigan to beat them. But man, they did a great job. Without a bunch of 4 stars, they've built a great defense. Connor Cook has done a good job in his first year starting. They adjusted during the game, and really took it to Ohio. They deserve to be congratulated. Give credit where it is due. Mattison, Lewan, Hoke, would all do the same thing.

I really don't understand the jerks who are such sore losers they can't congratulate the winner in a clean, hard fought battle. You play hard, you do your best, and sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. I'm glad for MSU, even though I don't like them. You remind me of the brats and bullies who storm off when they don't win a game. Life lesson:  no one wants to play with you or be around you when that's who you are. It is that attitude, whether at Ohio, or MSU, or ND, or Michigan, or the SEC, that I absolutely can't stand. Don't be that guy.

One other thing about MSU, I think they'll represent well in the Rose Bowl. I don't think their going to roll over for Stanford. I'm tired of sending Big10 teams to bowls to see them whipped. I'd like to see MSU's defense put the hurt on Stanford. And I agree with readers who want to see every Big10 team win their bowl game.

State had a great season and won when it counted most.  I hate Dantonio also, but he is an excellent coach and his staff is developing talent into great football players.  They play with an edge, like Michigan used to before 2007.

I rooted for OSU to lose and when Langford ran up the middle to put the final nail in the coffin, I did tha quiet "YES!"  State deserves the credit.

But, I will still root for Stanford in the Rose Bowl. And for whoever plays OSU in a bowl game, or any game, anywhere, any time.  I fuckin' hate OSU with every fiber of my being.

They won 0 national or Big Ten titles.

At first I thought it would be better for Ohio to win in order to keep MSU from claiming that they go to the Rose Bowl. Then I realized that little factoid and it made me feel much better.

Yes you've made your point.

If the tables were turned would a group of OSU fans start a post saying congrats to Michigan, for a well deserved championship. I bet yes.  Would a group of folks at RCMB do it?  No.  But that's ok.  Everytime I see your post I think of Bo and it sort of disgusts me - do you think Bo would not shake someone's hand after and congratulate them if they were facing head to head.  Just because you are not ON the team doesnt mean you cannot take that same attitude.   No one here is claiming to "like" Sparty, or "enjoy" what the fuck is happening tonight.  Most of us came in tonight with 2 bad choices.

But your attitude reminds of me of Isiah thomas after the Bulls finally beat the Pistons after years of trying.  Thomas led a walkout without congratulating the Bulls.  Just recently he admitted that was wrong.  Meanwhile after the Pistons beat the Celtics - the hated Celtics mind you - they congratulated the Pistons and told them to go kick the Lakers ass.   So in your world unless you are on the Pistons team itself you could never acknowledge the Bulls did something good.  Because they are a hated rival, and only players on the team itself could ever acknowledge another teams achievement. That is seriously backwards.

MSU has done more with less, and took down a big boy program with bigger money, bigger coaching salaries, bigger resources, and better recruits.  And they are a lot like the Pistons of those years who came close until they finally broke through.   To sit in an echo chamber with a few others who have their hands over their eyes screaming at the top of their lungs that everything is evil is just immature.

If you have kids, after a soccer game I guess it is ok to have the kids shake hands, but if a parent from the other team walked by, and it was a 'hated rival' you would avoid eye contact and or swear at them - because that is how you and a small group of people are acting here.  I now see what people say when they say Walmart Wolverines, it is pretty disgusting.

I go to Michigan and pee wee soccer isn't big time college football. I don't swear at opposing fans ever. I boo the team when they come on the field (Is this allowed according to you self righteous fan coaches?). I cheer on our team and go home. Hockey games are a million times worse for the person who thinks it's a requirement to congratulate the other team. The crowd chants pretty vulgar stuff.

I think M fans need to look at Dantonio and his tenure at MSU. He wasn't anything special early in the tenure, but look at what he has done in seven years. Two Big Ten titles, some double digit win seasons, and now he is going to the Rose Bowl. I'd say that is pretty good in a seven-year stretch. M fans and the administration NEEDS to have more patience with Hoke and his crew. Sure, we want immediate success, but that doesn't happen very often.

You're saying that we should have the same standards as MSU? This is THE Rose Bowl that they're going to, as in, the one Spartan fans for sure go to because this is likely their one chance. You're looking at the wrong rival and the standards (and process) that they have for hiring and firing coaches.
