They did Gods work. Now Go Stanford!!!!
They did Gods work. Now Go Stanford!!!!
Archie Griffen need to GTF off the stage!!
Makes me sick that MSU is the program that we aspire to right now, in terms of toughness, style, and fundamentals. But that's the state of things right now!
But we don't need a thread about it.
Well-earned trip to the Rose Bowl, and I'll be rooting for them. Glad to see the board overflowing with magnanimity!
Would the MSU that played tonight still have lost to ND? Methinks not. If I'm playing the role of Captain Hindsight, if MSU beats ND, they are prob playing FSU...insanity...
the Ohio fan base has to watch Archie Griffin congratulate Sparty on National Tv. I love this.
You can not be a Michigan fan and congratulate MSU on anything. Do you think a congrats Ohio state on going to the national championship would fly around here?
MSU hate is less than OSU hate. Gotta root for the best possible outcome also
Because being a Michigan fan, by definition, means being a poor loser and unwilling to recognize and respect other programs' success?
^Thank you, sir... ^
Now OSU hates both schools "up north".
and thanks for keeping OSU out of the NCG. Gotta hand it to them. They deserved the BIG title this year.
Sigh... what a sad state of affairs.
It really kinda sucks that Michigan State is exactly what Michgian wants to be...dominating defense and the abillity to pound the ball down your throat when it matters. Their entire team is just physically and mentally tough. I really hope we get there sooner rather than later.
Is there an influx of trolls or our fans really this pathetic. I only root for Michigan. I don't jerk off to Sparty, OSU, or ND football.
It's somewhat fun watching a competent team effort.
thank you.. way too many of them on here.. good god what a sad program we have now
You don't have to like it, but you should like it more than OSU winning. We laughed at their offense all season and then they crushed us. Then they crushed OSU. They are the best in the B1G. It would be nice if so-called Michigan Men around here would act accordingly, instead of acting like a piss poor sport. Do you stomp off the golf course when you lose and give the bird to the people who beat you? Typically, a hand shake and a "well played" is in order. Grow up.
Agreed. I wouldn't cheer for MSU even if someone had a gun to my head. I would tell them to go ahead and pull the trigger.
I don't think this is true.
If it is, you are strange.
I assure you it is true. Call me strange if you want but I only cheer for Michigan.
I believe you, man.
This is a thread where those of us still feeling the sting of Michigan's disappointing season can come and take solace in the end of OSU's chances at a national title, and pass on some begrudging respect to a team that deserves it. You are the reason the "state of the site" post was necessary. Feel bad about yourselves.
That is just like your opinion man.
I refused to watch the game...because I hate both teams...and their fans. A Sparty win or loss tonight would have resulted in a Sparty trip to the Rose Bowl either way (provided a 1 loss Auburn would not have jumped Ohio in the polls). However, a Sparty win ensured Ohio and Urb do not go to the NC game...so I am happy with tonight's result!
happy for msu and msu fans, but not for Coach Dantonio.
"Sparty No is dead. The Spartans are not going away."
Disagree completely. They won a lot of games and did Michigan fans a solid by ruing Ohio's streak and title hopes, but one year does not erase the entirety of failure that is Sparty No, especially considering they still have a chance for a moment against Stanford.
And MSU will be relatively tough for Michigan as long as Dantonio is there, but to compare him to Meyer is just absurd.
They've won 11 games 3 times in the last 4 years...12 wins this year. Sparty no is dead bro. They're not going anywhere. They're here to stay. Wisconsin of the state of Michigan.
My interpretation of Sparty No is having a a promising moment of hope dashed by a dumbass mistake i.e. 2011 Big Ten game, all of 2012, and that's jus the two previous seasons. And just because they have had three successful years in the last 4 or 5 doesnt completely erase the hundred plus that proceeded it.
MSU will be tough during the next few years, especiallf if Narduzi stays (which I dno't think he will), but you seem to be giving the impression that they have finally become the juggernaut that RCMB has been trying to convince themselves.
Looking at it objectively, MSU has hit their crest from all of the success in recruiting from the Rich Rod years. They have done a good job in building up 2-3-4 star tweeners to all conference players (almost entirely on defense), but I find it hard to believe that Narduzzi, who many believe is a major reason behind this success, will stay at MSU and wait for Dantonio to quit/retire/leave. Everyone knew Will Muschamp was going to take over for Mack Brown at Texas, and look how that turned out. Bottom line: MSU isn't in a much better position than Michigan for the forseeable future, and not much is a better indicator of that more than recruiting
Championship level effort. really.
"And MSU will be relatively tough for Michigan as long as Dantonio is there"
I think you are giving Dantonio too much credit and not giving Narduzzi enough credit.
one down one to go. Go Stanford.
Queme los Sofas.
The games against MSU when I was a kid were some of the best I remember. Both fan bases hated each other and there were some classic games. But I am ultimately a fan of football and a good MSU is good for the big ten and good for us. Dantonio has always been a good coach. When he was DC for Tressel they were the best defense in the Big Ten and frankly he has made them an amazing program.
I look forward to what this rivalry will be going forward. We will be back and this will be great again for both teams. But let's just appreciate a great game and honestly a really great team. MSU came out, and took it to the Buckeyes. They used a ton of the plays and misdirections we had used and abused the Buckeyes with it. They played an outstanding game, and I'm glad they are repping our conference in the Rose Bowl.
This reminds me of basketball when we lost to MSU by 50 pts and they were pouring it on - literally embarassing us. Now you have people at MSU looking at U of M basketball worried about what we are becoming. These things go in cycles as long as you stick the course and commit to the right philosophy.
Cheer them on - they aren't playing michigan again this year, they don't compete with us for recruits, and they just beat OSU which is a far bigger threat. They have also become both a damn good team and a damn good yard stick to go after and achieve against. Congrats to them and hopefully we can build something that special soon.
Agreed . The more high level play in the BIG the better. Would love to see multiple nationally relavent teams in our coference. Bring it!!
Really wish we could upvote. I'm one of the thousands of lurkers Brian referenced this week, and it appears to me that this thread is otherwise filled with those his post was addressing.
Good for MSU. M had a down year, but I'm much happier to see the Spartans win this game than the alternative. Go Blue!!!
Now say something incendiary and selfish so you fit in.
Love thy enemy
Delete this if you want FUCK both those teams!! Both beat us fair and square. But i've never cheered more for a natural disaster.
Coaching matters. We recruit better and they develop better. If Brandon can't see that clearly then F us all. It is total BS to be on the outside looking in here.
they have 15, 5th year seniors.. we have more freshman playing this year than ever in michigan history do the math.. Are these kids suppose to be superstars as Fr, RSfr, or soph? No..
The upper classmen are kids recruited mostly by RR and very few of them had any talent at all..
Dantonio has proven he can do it with all experience levels. In 2011, his only senior starter was Kevin Pickelman (?). Three true freshmen; three second-year players; three third-year players. Pretty darn young.
I remember when Greg Jones, Eric Gordon, Marcus Hyde, and Chris Rucker all graduated after 2010, we all thought MSU's defense would come back to earth. Fact is, it was just getting ramped up. There is no reason to believe Dantonio won't just keep reloading.
Bollman/Warner putting up 34 with that personnel at a neutral site really puts the 41 Michigan scored in a different sort of perspective.
12 meaningful possessions
2 Made FGs
438 total yards offense
7.6 yards per pass attempt
4.2 yards per rush
11 meaningful possessions
1 Turnover on downs that likely was a made FG with Gibbons
1 Fumble (bullcrap, was likely driving for a score)
603 total yards offense
9.6 yards per pass attempt
4.3 yards per rush
