I knew I had been accepted even before I had opened the envelope, as I received a full-sized thick envelope, rather than a standard envelope that obviously contained a letter and nothing else.

Thank goodness I was accepted, as U of M was the only college to which I applied.  At the time, I would've rather stayed in my job at the mall than suffer what I felt would have been the indignity of attending MSU.

Class of '16 here. I grew up in Ann Arbor, and I've loved all things Michigan my entire life. It wasn't until my junior year of high school that I even imagined going anywhere else (I had good enough grades to take a shot at a few Ivy League schools). At this time last year Michigan was my "safety school," and I was disappointed when I didn't get into my top choices, but fast forward one year and I can't imagine being anywhere else. Michigan has been such a great fit for me in so many ways, from academics to my social life. I've already had the time of my life in just 4 months, and I can't imagine being anywhere else.

This video reminds me of why it's so great to be a Michigan Wolverine!

To those of you who either got deferred/wait listed.... DO NOT PANIC. They let people in in three waves and this is the first and most challenging. Usually this is the top third or so of APPLICANTS based on ACT/SAT and GPA. Many of these kids will come but a lot will not, particularly out-of-staters waiting to hear from the Ivys. Do not lose hope or panic. If April 1 rolls around and you haven't been accepted, then things are not looking great.

My dad was waiting for me in the driveway holding my letter when I came home from school. His first words were "It's a big envelope and it's from Michigan. I think you got in."

Later he admitted trying to hold it up to a light to see what it said and that he had to restrain himself from tearing it open.

I applied to Michigan and one safety school (not State) and am so lucky I got in.

Congrats class of 17...make the most of it.

That urban legend of the lone MSU student who accepted a sparty bid over a Michigan bid is less likely to have occurred  than finding  bigfoot in my living room with a glass of scotch. I  think there is a greater chance of the loch ness monster swimming down the Detroit River on the Fourth of July than actually finding one person who chose a sparty acceptance over Michigan.  Sincerely, Kris Kringle

way back in 1976, the large envelope was the giveaway.  I remember my mom being so happy and may dad, not so happy.  My dad was from Ohio and loved all things OSU and Woody Hayes.  For me, it was like going home given I had been to Ann Arbor many times when my oldest brother was an undergrad (in the pre-Bo days!).

While my moment was great, the greatest was when my daughter got accepted three years ago.  She came home from practice after school and I went out to fire up the snowblower and clear off 3 inches of fresh snow.  A few minutes later, she was yelling at me sobbing uncontrollably.  I seriously thought our dog had died or something horrible had happened.  No.  She was have a happiness meltdown after getting her acceptance in her email.  The many years of attending football games with my wife and I had made her want to be a wolverine.  When she was in 9th grade, while at a game, she pointed over at the student section and stated she would be sitting over there one day.  Well, her day had come and, of course, her Michigan experience has been great and it's been a kick for my wife and I, too.  Nothing like your kids following in your footsteps.

Congrats to all and Go Blue!

I always find it kind of funny when people say things like "these are the best years of your life." I remember being told that a bunch when I was in high school, too. Basically saying "it's all downhill from here." I don't graduate until next year though, so maybe my opinion will change.

"It's all downhill from here" doesn't sound as good as "these are the best years of your life", but has essentially the same meaning.  Your time to be careless and irresponsible with little to no consequences is nearly over.  Sure, there is some mild stress to be experienced during college, but nothing like the stress that will come as your responsibilities increase.

Enjoy your time until graduation - I mean this earnestly.
