That's one hell of a defense.
Thanks for bringing a little cred back to the BiG

This x 100.  How can everyone choose to be so respectful to such a disrespectful fanbase?  They've had a few good years sure. First time at rose bowl since 88. Meanwhile they try to remind us at every point that we haven't won a Natty Championship since 97.  Seems rather ironic to me. Sure they've had a heck of a run and this year is no exception.  But everytime i look at any MSU board, it's constant shit talking about Desmond Howard, the UM fanbase, and spiteful comments towards anyone and everyone that disagrees with them.  That's why i find it hard to take my hat off to them.  You try to give them credit and they just resort to childish banter.

These threads constantly get created as if people are trying to be friends with the fanbase of MSU.  Is it really necessary to kiss spartan ass all the time? Do we need to publically acknowledge every time they do something positive? When the tables turn eventually, just as every team's success eventually does, they will not give you the same level of respect.  So why bother? Sites like RCMB just use this material to feed their own ego, especially from mgoblog.  They eat this shit up and use it to talk trash about how pathetic they think our fanbase is.  And quite honestly, these type of threads are pathetic.

The one thing I know is that their coaching staff out performs our staff. So their walk on LB played great! Odds are is they beat us again in EL. I just hope it is not another blow out win for them!

The conference needed this win, but it sucks to see any rival have success when our program seems to be lacking direction, passion, and progress.  I've been a fan of Brady Hoke from the moment he did his first press conference, but if this program has another season like this, then Dave Brandon needs cut him loose and hire someone who has legitimately shown the ability to build a program through recruitng AND player development.  Hell if it came down to it, I would offer Jim Tressel the job.

Why congratulate our rival? Their win did not help um at all. If it helps our conference, then it is our rival doing it not us. The trash they talk all year and about all sports does not deserve us giving them praise. They are trash and that should always be remembered. If you forget, go on Facebook or Twitter or listen to talk radio and you will be reminded quickly how they feel about um. Oh that's right, I'm sure msu was really cheering for mich basketball last year in national championship game, right?

Just wait until I'm called a douchebag for not saying that Dantonio is the best thing since sliced bread, but with Ohio State or Notre Dame none of these threads ever show up. Kind of funny really when these holier than thou people ignore big Buckeye wins but are on everyone when they're not kissing MSU's ass.

Yea it is embarassing. You'll probably see one of these threads the next time they beat us the next time with a bunch of posters going around to everyone who will not congratulate MSU for various reasons and call them dbags like they do to me and various other posters.

The difference is that we have historically considered Michigan State to be inferior. That's not the case with Ohio State. Ohio State is expected to win B1G championships and contend for national championships. Michigan State is not. Also, as I mentioned in my comment below, Miichigan State's success just accentuates how badly Michigan has underperformed lately. MSU has won 11 or more games in three of the last four seasons. When was the last time Michigan did that?

If Sparty had not beaten Urb and taken OSU out of national title contention, would we still be falling all over ourselves for the Rose Bowl today? I doubt it. It is like this is their reward for defeating Ohio State. If OSU was in the NC game, we wouldn't be so happy for Sparty, I am guessing. Would we congratulate OSU for a similar feat?

I'm glad Sparty won. It's good for the Conference. I'm sick as hell of hearing all this "B1G can't beat anyone good" chatter. And this over the top hate BS re: Sparty is for middle schoolers.

I want to beat them - and everyone else we play - but I could care less about their reputed attitude towards us. The MSU fans I know are just fine. Mark Hollis is a good AD, and Dantonio is a very good coach.

They're building a formidable program, and we need to accept the challenge and do better. Much better.

As far as I'm concerned, it's fitting that they kicked our butts after our AD was enough of a douchebag to do a "Go Blue" skywriter slogan over their stadium.

That was the most low-class, embarrassing thing I've ever seen the UM athletic department do, and Brandon should have been held accountable for it. Could you ever imagine Bo or Don Canham pulling a spoiled frat-boy stunt like that?

Time to clean the UM house, from the top down, and get back to building a better football program for Michigan.

Brandon, his minions, and Hoke & Co. need to go.

So we'll have a thread congratulating the Ohio state Buckeyes if they beat Clemson. Somehow I doubt that. If there isn't a big thread on Ohio State this friday then you're pretty much a hypocrite.

Funny how you Montucky Yooper can't move on until everyone on here has said what a great team MSU is. It ain't gonna happen. Not if they go 15-0 for the next 20 years. Not with their fanbase.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again: fuck them. Their douchebag of a coach took shots in the media at a player. Who else does that? That same douchebag would've rather seen Michigan lose to OSU despite the fact that a U of M victory would've given him his first Rose Bowl berth. What about the way he showed his ass at the coaches clinic a couple years back? Remember the cheap shots and Denard's twisted helmet that he failed to admonish? What about them taking to Twitter to talk shit about Denard in a game that had no bearing on them whatsoever? How many Sparties openly cheered against Michigan in the Sugar Bowl and last year's NC, and bought App State t-shirts following The Horror ? Now we're kissing their ass because they won the Rose Bowl? Sheesh. Neg away if you all want; I'm a big boy, I can take it.

Whatever, I don't give a shit. Instead of hating on Sparty, maybe we should focus on how bad their success makes us look. We haven't won a B1G championship in ten years. We haven't won a Rose Bowl in over fifteen. That was also the last time we went undefeated in conference play. We've never won 11 games in three of four seasons. We've never won 13 games in a season. We haven't won three bowl games in a row since the 90's. We have yet to appear in the B1G title game, let alone win it. MSU pulled off all of those accomplishments, and they did it without signing top 10 recruiting classes like we love to brag about doing (as if recruiting rankings alone win games). And yet, we're the ones who look down our noses at Sparty and go around saying bullshit like "This is Michigan, fergodsakes" or whatever the fuck.

I hope Brady Hoke can't sleep tonight after watching that Rose Bowl. Something needs to light a fire under him and get it through his head that "This is Michigan" doesn't mean jack shit anymore.

Why did "we" need this win? So we can delude ourselves into thinking the B1G isn't a shitty conference when we and the rest of the country knows it is? He may be reviled here, but Meyer was right by saying the coaches in this conference need to step their game up in order to kill the national perception of the B1G, Hoke included.

allintime23

I don't think it's a good thing in any way that state won the rose bowl. I'd rather have the continued bad perception of the big ten than in any way find joy that our in state rival just won the biggest game in their programs last fifty years.

This victory adds cred to the conference schedule next year and the games played this past season as well. This is important if but glacially important .  Iowa's respectable loss does the same.  Minnesota... not so much...

The beauty of yesterday was MSU > Stanford.  It was a very nice football day.  Meyer is not the standard this year - Dantonio is... and his game is up.   Let's cut the Meyer talk until we see him play Clemson tomorrow.  He had a chance to play for the championship and blew it.  I don't see how that gives credence to the B1G.

This year... B1G > Pac12... let's eat and rejoice...

I will say congrats to the Michigan state Spartans. Fanbase and Michigan hatred aside, I couldn't be more impressed with how they've done this. You look at where this team Was week 1 to where it was tonight and you could see they came together, got better every week, and gained much confidence along the way. Sparty is playing the way that Hoke proclaimed Michigan would play. They are big. They are physical. They are fast. They are calm and collected. Michigan has been recruiting great and all I can do is hope that the recruiting and player development take care of itself. With the talent on our roster 8-5 / 7-6 are very unacceptable and with the schedule next year anything less then 9-10 wins would be less then ideal.

I walked into the office and there's a poster up at the front that says "Meet the most dominant team in Big Ten conference history" and a list of scores/stats from each of their games, only Big Ten team to ever win all conference games by double digits, etc.

At the risk of sounding like I am fellating them, their defense is very, very good and I think the only teams that I would pick over them would be FSU or Alabama.  That unit has a legitimate gripe that they are not in the national championship game.

FrankMurphy

January 2nd, 2014 at 10:39 AM ^

only Big Ten team to ever win all conference games by double digits

Didn't know that. Yet another accomplishment by MSU that Michigan hasn't ever achieved. And yet, they're "little brother" and This is Michigan, fergodsakes.

Next season, it's B1G title with wins against both OSU and MSU or bust, as far as I'm concerned. Don't just say "This is Michigan", show us. Oh, the schedule is difficult? Tough. This is Michigan. If Hoke can't hack it here, he should be shown the door. I'm sick of hearing him spout off nonsense that he can't back up and then cluelessly act like nothing is wrong when his team underperforms.

FrankMurphy

January 2nd, 2014 at 12:43 PM ^

Is denial a river in Ann Arbor? Has Michigan achieved anything remotely close to what MSU has achieved in the past 4 years? Does Michigan have any basis whatsoever for claiming that distinction at any point in the past 15 years?

The irony is that in trying to minimize "little brother's" accomplishments and refusing to give credit where credit is due, we're acting like "little brother". The tables truly have turned.

I know they had their offensive struggles early but its still super hard to believe this team loss to Notre Dame. That D on the other hand made cowards out of men all year.

Gob Wilson

January 2nd, 2014 at 12:47 PM ^

... but I will give congrats to their players. It's okay to respect your rivals and when your rivals perform well and you beat them it makes winning all the better. I hope OSU wins for the B1G and we beat the hell out of both MSU and OSU next year. We need to surpass good teams. As much as it pains me to say this, I think Hoke needs 5 years. I was so disappointed with this year. If things do not improve, after 5 years then both Brandon and Hoke will have to answer for the poor performance. Winning fixes almost everything. ... [ed] oh, and when and if we move in another direction, can we then finally get an AD who actually knows something about football coaching rather than pizza (...and yes, I do know that Brandon played a game for Bo back in the day.)

ThadMattasagoblin

January 2nd, 2014 at 1:08 PM ^

Nope. Most teams don't give any credit to the other team and I like it that way. No NFL teams do, no SEC teams do, we don't with Ohio State, but apparently we're supposed to have extreme brotherly love for MSU.

They've been the better team on the field for five of the past six years.  That has to change.

I say "Congrats" and move on.
