Congrats to the new Wolverines. (Acceptance letters went out today).

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on

Congrats to all of the new Wolverines who were admitted today. Students who applied for early admission were notified electronically a few hours ago.  If you have a kid, sibling, cousin, nephew, or you yourself were a HS senior who was admitted today, come forth and receive your welcome.

Go Blue and for those who got good news today, welcome to the family.

EDIT: I still have my old school paper admissions letter and will until I die.

I myself was admitted about 6 weeks ago as a transfer student for this semester. Pretty damn excited as it was a life goal that looked almsot impossible when I had a 0.0 and was expelled from highschool. woooooooooo

Very impressive.  Don't let anyone look down on you for being a transfer student.  I went to one of Michigan's professional schools years back and too many students made shitty comments when I told them that I went to a community college my first two years of undergrad.  They were usually the same people who were shocked when I told them I worked a part time job in college as they were rich assholes who never worked a day.

A lot of students don't get the struggles of cummunity college. The classes require real effort, and often times the commute takes up a lot of time that could be afforded to studying. Plus many CC kids have jobs or other commitments. Community college helps a lot of students who have very diffrent goals. In my experience the top 5% at CC is close to the top students at UofM, but the bottom half of CC really are awful students.

As far as anyone looking down on me.....that is no concern of mine, I was told by my origininal high school administration I didn't even have what it takes to graduate high school. I would welcome any additional motivation.

I had a 3.9 and did a lot of elderly care. I'm also a minority and that may have helped. But it sounds like some other students I met at orientation had around a 3.5 and nothing much in terms of extracuricular. Make sure you go online and check which classes at your school transfer to UofM, that is my biggest advice.

Dude! This is awesome! I myself was a transfer to Michigan (from Washtenaw Community College). I only applied to Michigan out of high school, and wasn't accepted. Put my head down, got to work at WCC, applied again in a couple years, and finally got accepted. Graduated in December 2005 with a Bachelor's in Computer Science. And you know what? No one cares that I took the long route to Michigan. I got the same degree as everyone else. Congratulations, man! You deserve it.

I have to admit that I looked up Gucci Mane's bio in case this was some Gucci Mane joke that completely went over my head. But since when I Googled "Gucci Mane expelled 0.0" this thread was the top result, I just have to say congratulations! That is quite the accomplishment and you should be proud.

Being admitted to the UM Law School was one of the happiest days of my life.  I was much more excited than when I received any of my college acceptances.

Me too. They called me up to offer law school admission as well back and in the day. GREAT feeling. Grinned ear to ear the rest of the day at work. Bonus was the attorneys at the large Chicago firm where I worked who had previously treated me as invisible as a file clerk suddenly were coming around my cubicle when word got out that I got accepted to Michigan Law.

checking out all the 'other' law schools. When I got home, there was a yellow packet and a letter from Dean Z waiting for me. And when I flew out to Ann Arbor, for some reason MLaw just felt better than other places. I'll always remember that feeling.

Congrats to all the undergrad admits today. And if you didn't get it this time, good luck in the regular cycle or as a transfer!

I'll never forget when my younger daughter decided to go to U-M.  She grew up in Ann Arbor and knew the campus pretty well.  But she was a "Wisconsin lean" up until her "official visit" weekend for parents.  She and my wife and I were having lunch at East Quad and she announced her "verbal" to Michigan.  I was so happy I almost cried.  Every U-M alum's dream is for one (or all) of their kids to go to Michigan as well.

enough to make my eyes sting a little too.  Congratulations to you, and everyone who is experiencing the thrill of seeing those words in Wolverine Access.

My oldest is doing very well in his sophomore year as a Wolverine, younger is studying her butt off in HS to try and follow in big brother's footsteps.

at Michigan. He's having the time of his life there and may even be learning a thing or two.

I was very proud the day he got accepted to Michigan, and am equally proud today, as his brother just got accepted.

Good luck to your daughter. I hope she receives the same good news when her time comes.

Congrats to the new admitted students! In-state UM might be the best college deal in the nation (along with in-state UVA, Berk, and UCLA).

First semester might be rough, but the rest of the 3 years will be awesome!

Not true about HYP. It's need-blind admission and more than half the students receive financial aid. You may still need to take out loans, but because the financial package is so generous, you don't really need to take out more than the Stafford. Even before the free/minimal contribution policy was instituted, they made it well affordable, and my brother & I paid much less than friends who went to Northwestern/U Chicago, etc. The parental contribution is capped, so the more siblings get in, the better the deal.
