Confused about what we did last signing day

Submitted by DesHow21 on
So we were left with 4/5 scholarships on the table last year on signing day and everybody here said that makes sense because we can use those schollies on more attractive players who will enroll early next year. But now it looks like (based on TomVH's conversation with the AD) that we will in fact not be able to date back the early enrollees to last years allotment. So what gives? Did the B10 just dong punch us with the rule change after signing day or did we just drop the ball on this? Even if the rule change was announced after signing day, couldn't we have just taken 1-AA players or something to use up the schollies and provide SOME warm bodies at positions of desperation?

i don't think anyone, ANYONE, knows what they're talking about with the new rule, and I don't understand why it's such a secret. some dude's at the ncaa or big 10 know about, rich rod and his staff probably knows about it, and maybe martin.

We still have the max of 85 total schollarships to consider. I think last year's 21 recruits left us with about 81 and then we gave about 4 schollarships to Sheridan / Moundros / Olensavage, etc. in August I'd always rather give walk-on contributors a one-year schollarship than take a 2* freshman away from the MAC/G.V.St.

we had 71 scholarship players this year. If you look at Scout's site they have 77 listed on scholarship and 7 of those either transferred or were dismissed. Kelvin Grady wasn't on the list leaving 71. Walkon scholarships are only for one year so those given out aren't necessarily counted toward the next year. I believe the rule you are talking bout is a Big 10 rule not NCAA concerning the EEs. With the current lack of respect the conference gets why they would want to have a stricter rule than everyone else is beyond me. Maybe it's time for a new commissioner.

of it being a big 10 rule, but that might make sense. I think someone found the NCAA rule and it says you can count it to either year, which would imply nothing has changed, but I haven't seen anyone produce a copy of the Big 10 rules surrounding recruiting, so our answer probably lies there and not with the NCAA.
