As rumored, Michael Rosenberg, spawn of satan, lord of lies, abuser of marine mammals, is now covering college football for si.com. His first football column is, of all things, about how Terrelle Pryor is OSU's only hope to beat USC. I won't link it here, that would be dirty. Suffice to say, those boycotting the Free Press may need to consider Sports Illustrated (or their web site at least) as well.
confirmed: Dolphin Puncher hired by si.com
No. There's a chance that Rosenberg will have intelligent and discerning editors.
If the editors of SI were intelligent they would've seen the fallacies of Rosenberg's previous work and NOT hired him. This just proves that they are more likely to be as dumb as the editors from the Freep.
This doesn't bode well for them.
It's unlikely the editors were in charge of filling Rosenberg's position.
This whole thing is eerily like that storyline from The Wire about the reporter Scott who made up stuff for the Baltimore Sun. I think he got a Pulizer in the end.
Or, if you need a real life example, go with Jayson Blair
Just as long as it ends like "Shattered Glass" I'll be satisfied.
Maybe he'll make friends with Selena Roberts. A match made in heaven.
He's been working for SI.com since last month.
his previous two and only columns were about 1) how Rick Pitino is a bad man (duur...) and 2) Ken Griffey Jr. is a pretty good guy (also aduuuur...). Now he's writing about the arch-rivals of the team he recently slandered. It hits a little closer to home.
The post claims "the rumors are true" and the title says "confirmed". There is nothing to confirm. He wrote two stories for SI.com already.
Rosenberg's stuff used to be good. Seriously, he was a good writer with an interesting opinion then things became more and more kitsch-y over the years. His columns now read like bad stand-up comedy and are incredibly shtick-y, kind of like Albom. I wonder if Rosenberg saw Albom's success and decided to mimic his style.
Its pretty obvious that Rosenberg is a climber, a person who will do anything to get to the top, even if it hurts innocent people. He has no character and no soul...just another talking head determined to be the heir apparent for the guys on PTI.
Do you understand that the world does not revolve around you and your do whatever it takes, ruin as many people's lives, so long as you can make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or people you leave dead and bloodied along the way, just so long so you can make a name for yourself as an investigatory journalist, no matter how many friends you lose or people you leave dead and bloodied and dying along the way?
Im sorry, this has nothing to do with him going to SI.com, but whenever I hear about him, this song instantley pops into my head. It describes him perfectley.
right. at any rate, i haven't read SI in years. that magazine is garbage
the timing of this is nothing short of predominant.
In 2003, Mike Price was fired as coach at Alabama for visiting a Pensacola striptease establishment and having a stripper run up a big tab on his Bama credit card while he golfed at the pro-am.
SI published a salacious story with salacious details about salacious activities that night (in particular alleging that he had sexual relations with _that woman._)
Except the story was bunk, and one of the strippers interviewed was lying (backed up by affadavits), and SI didn't really do anything to vet it, and Price sued their asses. They settled for an unnamed amount, but whatever the libel laws say Price's character was defamed without regard for the truth. I didn't renew my SI subscription and have since watched as Rick Reilly became a lachrymatory Mitch Albom and their weekly format became downright outdated the moment it was printed thanks to the Internets.
No surprise here. The way to move up in the journalism business is to destroy people and get headlines.
