Compliance Department is on the ball

Submitted by Chuck Harbaugh on

I found this website(http://he16man.spreadshirt.com/) through a facebook ad tonight.  Based on the whole mgoshirt inventory purge of a couple weeks ago, I narced on this site to the Compliance Department with a cc to Judy Van Horn.  Six minutes later (8:36 p.m. EDT), I got a personal reply from JVH.

I know, "cool story, brah." Sorry. I was just impressed with the speed and the personal touch.  The only people who get responses that quick from me are old guys in black robes who hold my career in their hands.

Yet the vendors sitting right outside the Union and selling teeshirts continue to operate unmolested.  What a weird world we live in.

...with really limited legal authority.  I suspect that they get their permit from the city, as do the food vendors set up on similar prime campus real estate.  Now, as to why the University hasn't leaned on the city to either revoke permits or served notice on those fools, that is beyond me.

They've been there a while, so who knows.  I'd say their primary concern is making sure vendors with U licenses aren't making illicit contraband (lol NCAA/Michigan making millions off of students).  My only guess is that it'd be pretty bad publicity to shut down the innocent street vendors with the Superman logo van.

is that the C+D letter was enforced by underground printing (affiliated with Mgostore) because of the threat of losing their permission to sell M licensed goods.  The copyright issues seem to be more threat than reality.  I mean, how could the university really claim that "Shoelace" is their property?  If the Mgostore was not affiliated with a university sponsored vendor, these shirts would not be a problem.  Any Mgolegalopinions want to opine?
