I think it's ok to be simultaneously disappointed with not making Larry Culpepper's tournament since the 2016 team looked so good at times and was so close, yet bullish for the future.

Who would have thought on December 30, 2014 that we'd be favored against FSU in a December 30, 2016 bowl matchup?

they really couldn't find some way to invite EMU (or CMU)?  Match-ups like BC vs Maryland are a good way for the Quick Lane Bowl to go out of business.

Boston College vs. Maryland is the sort of game for the "day after Christmas, just returned a shit ton of sweaters, ate at Panera and now I need to sleep it off" crowd. They did get that right at least.

Auburn-Oklahoma isn't excatly compelling either - "The Rather Overrated Bowl" perhaps? "Disappointment Bowl"? It could be a lot of things.

Still weird not seeing the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, but what a great chance to market Playstation Vue for Sony. I imagine a big chunk of the audience for this game only subscribe to cable because of sports and may start looking into other options.

Also, thanks for compiling this OP.

Can't wait for the anti-Big Ten rhetoric to start  after the Big Ten goes at best 3-7:

  • Penn St loses to USC
  • OSU loses to Clemson
  • Michigan destroys FSU
  • Wisconsin beats Western Michigan?
  • Iowa loses to SEC East champions #17 Florida
  • Nebraska loses to SEC East runners-up  #21 Tennesee
  • Indiana gets destroyed by #19 Utah
  • Northwestern loses to #23 Pitt
  • Minnesota loses to PAC-12 North runners-up, WSU
  • Maryland wins(?) a close one against Boston College

I hate how these bowl games always end up with the B1G teams that are middle-of-the-conference versus the top of the SEC conference, usually in locations that are virtually home games for the SEC. /rant

even for those that like to go party, most of the football will be over well before midnight.   for those of us that stay in, well, that is very good TV, much better than 'rockin NYE with nameless/faceless JV celebrities'.

Have I been living under a rock?   Why no bowl games on New Years Day?   How the hell did I miss this development?  Is it merely a function of New Years Day falling on a Sunday, thus NFL doesn't want the TV audience drainage (and vice versa for NCAA)?

I have way too many fond memories of laying horizontally on a couch all day nursing hangovers, eating pizza, and timing bathroom runs to commerical breaks (pre-DVR days) on New Years Day while watching non-stop bowl action.

 about no sunday games:  https://www.tournamentofroses.com/events/the-rose-bowl-game

the essence being, that since 1893 they didn't want to have the horses right out front of the various churches on the parade route on a sunday, thus, no sundays.  i'm guessing since the 'grand daddy of them all' had that tradition, the others simply adopted it as they came on line.

root for the B1G Ten during bowl season, besides for Ohio State and Michigan State, but this year will be different.
I want to see Penn State get beat down by USC and I would like to see Western Michigan win against Wisconsin.

I don't really understand why Michigan fans would want wisconsin to lose, other than because they are actually western fans/alum/etc. beating Wisconsin was big for Michigan and I'd like this season to end with that remaining a big win. A loss to western would delegitimize Wisconsin IMO
