Complete 2013-14 M Hockey scheduled revealed

Non-conference is pretty interesting. I don't know what to think. It just looks like a weird schedule. I gotta get used to this whole B1G thing.
We managed to get grade A clubs to come to Yost (BC, BU, even Lowell), some really good teams on the road (RIT, UNH, UNO) and we still managed to keep some in state games (Ferris, Tech)
When I had student tickets (07-10), we had some pretty lousy non-conference games and a lot of CCHA games were lousy too. I count three dull games on the schedule: Niagara, Waterloo (ex), and the USNTDP. Otherwise, every home game is gonna be pretty good.
I approve of this schedule
Just kind of weird seeing Niagara in the middle of the season like that.
BC and BU coming to Yost?! Sign me up!
We are playing Boston College at home, and I'm psyched about playing Michigan Tech, and continuing the "feud" with Ferris State. The non-conf is very challenging, but it should give us some exposure before conference play starts.
Surprised I liked the schedule so much. Having BC, BU, and U-Mass Lowell come to Yost and still playing Ferris, and now getting to add a home weekend with Michigan Tech is great. Plus a chance to possibly play Wester in the GLI, this means Michigan could play all the major Michigan schools (outside Northern, and LSSU) while moving to the B1G.
I also think the away weekend in New Hampshire early in the season will help the team grow and test themselves early in the season.
agree re: UNH series... i think it'll function like the UAF trips used to.
I hope they keep travelling to obscure Eastern towns to allow the team to get to know each other. RPI would be a good trip- there's nothing to do but get to know your teamates on a trip to RPI
RIT, not RPI and I'm pretty sure the game is being played in the AHL arena (Blue Cross Arena) in Rochester and not on their campus.
i know, i'm saying in future years, they should keep coming east to places like RPI, union, colgate, etc
Ferris State went to RPI this past season, and although didn't fair well (0-1-1) it forced them to go on a 14 hour bus trip with the new guys, and bonded the team. Also they were coming into the season after their best player broke his arm in the exibition game, so really threw the young team into a tough environment and forced them to "sink or swim"
I live in NY but was invited to a wedding the evening of the RIT game...seriously contemplating skipping it
Currently planning on taking in 3 in a row-- @RIT and both @UNH games.
Very excited.
Don't be crazy.
Go to the game.
both at home and on the road. The key home games are much more in line with the ticket prices for my season tickets. Let's hope that the play on the ice is up to the task this season. Go Blue!
Guys, Seems to me that we need at least 1-2 additional schools in the B1G to add hockey in the next 4-5 years or so. Is that feasible? Does it make sense? (I think it would be to add what we might call inventory to B1G network) Who would add it? Northwestern? I think there must be a longer term plan than just having less than half the conference with a team in a particular sport.
There would be fan support at illinois, but they would need a huge initial investment in a facility a la PSU.
NW could use the united center, but it's pretty booked up with the bulls/hawks/misc stuff, and i can't imagine anyone associated with NW would care.
Neb would be like Ill, but UNO already has a program and i doubt the regents/board for the NU system would want that kind of competition.
The sleeper is Iowa, who would have a decent shot at aquiring talent with the USHL having a big presence in DeMoines, IIRC. Would need a facility in IC I assume. They would get fan support I think.
IU, PU no way.
Rutgers and Maryland, who the hell knows- someone help us with these 2
Forgot about them. Another hockey hotbed, in terms of state talent.
Illinois, Indiana would be instant impact if they had financial backing.
i just don't see the indiana schools getting much support in any sense.
There is absolutely no support for hockey at Purdue. I remember getting ostracized for caring about the Stanley Cup playoffs and not the NBA playoffs. The club team for purdue practices 30 minutes off campus and plays their games one hour away in Indianapolis. Purdue would be one of the last universities to add hockey. The current president Mitch Daniels is on a budget cutting session at the moment. Since Purdue football is not the most revenue generating program in the area...I seriously doubt president Daniels and AD Burke wants to taken on additional costs.
My experience has been that if you are a die hard hoops guy, you aren't at all interested in hockey, and vice versa.
in fact, i'm the only guy i've ever known who could hold his own on the court and on the street hockey, er... court. when i was young, anyway
Indiana would be a logical choice as they are an attractive school for hockey players that get looked over for scholarships- they have had a good club program for quite a few years.
Rutgers is a wildcard- they are out east, how are they in terms of hockey?
http://www.rutgershockey.com Seems they have a University team in the ESCHL, so maybe they will be part of the B1G for hockey in a few years.....
ever since Penn State announced they were moving up and the general consensus seems to be that no one else seems likely to join soon unless
- A huge donor steps up for that school ala Terry Pegula for Penn State
- Or the BTN someho ends up making significantly more money for the hockey schools than anyone expected
Best bets seem to be Nebraska or Illinois and neither seems close
The game at RIT is the only game in NY and its the same night as the football team's game at Penn State.
Have to choose football. Darn it
Football has a 5pm start. Hockey may have an 8-8:30pm start to accomodate Michigan fans. DB makes sure that the schedule for hockey accomodates football and basketball.
Not sure he will be able to set the time of a road game.
But I like it.
Looking forward to watching our icers on TV this winter.
season ending series with Minnesota means something.
Wow, what a schedule. Think I need to get season tickets this year instead of going individual.
Just hope the team is up to playing it, unlike last year.
Does anyone know how much hockey season tickets cost per game last season? Do they give you a discount on per ticket price like they do for football season tickets?
