But he ends it with "haha" so I'm guessing he's just playing.
"Commit watch," sayeth David Dawson
At the awesomeness of 22 recruits by mid-June.
Well... 21 and a half.
I really don't like that we're criticizing the recruitment of Sypniewski so much. If the staff felt he deserved a scholarship, who are we to judge? Give the kid a chance. Just throwing that out there.
Though a relatively harmless joke, I didn't dig it because it took a shot at a kid who doesn't seem to deserve it. He's probably better at snapping a football than most on this board are at anything.
But I have a hard time with the 'if the staff felt...' sentiments. On one hand, the coaches definitely know more about the team's needs than almost anyone. They have more information about attrition, player development, &c. But a great fan base (like Michigan's) has to be well-informed and passionate; that can reasonably lead to critical comments about coaching choices. So long as Michigan fans don't cast aspersions and their arguments are good, I don't see why they shouldn't be critical of coaches.
While I agree the joke is harmless and not really that bad, I just wouldn't want to be a recruit that saw that type of talk on here. Not saying we we get a lot of them, but it's possible. I agree that criticism of the staff is sometimes warranted (I do it too), but not when it comes to the abilities of a player. I think in this particular scenario they've earned our trust. But how does JUB put it? UM fans are more like opera critics than football fans? ;)
Or that he knows he can get all of us going and speculating so easily!
Is anybody close to pulling the trigger? I'm thinking it's got to be McQuay or Treadwell, right?
I hope not. They're great players and all, I just think we need to build our long snapper depth. Next year we have a true freshman, a walkon, and DEATH!
I will not be buckling up. Last week I didn't buckle up, and we got a commit. So despite the danger, I will not be putting on my harness this week either. Man, the things I do for Mgoblog...
Not sure if he's messing or not.
So much commits! I can't take it. Ahhhh!
Has he given forewarning of commits in the past? I'm remembering something around Hurst, but not sure.
He made a comment about how Treadwell was 'blue all the way' or something like that, which kind of was blown out of proportion by the board.
Anybody visiting today or this weekend?
Did you say...safety first? Interesting.
So this is how Texas fans feel. I wonder what do they in January when their class is wrapped up.
I'll guess that 50% of us will be scoping out the 2014 recruits and 50% of us will be complaining that Hoke can't close out the class with some last minute 5 stars.
Or some of us will be doing both.
And worry about people flipping.
I am guessing we are going to be pacing the floors hoping all the commits sign their LOI. A dozen threads a day will be started about something a commit said on twitter that might mean they are looking elsewhere.
I see you've met us.
I'm not sure this means anything. A quick tweet from a commit is probably not enough to go on.
I'm just here for the "-eth."
When they found out we're giving a scholarship to a placeholder.
A placeholder who holds with RAGE!
He has a huge ass, and once planted the ball three inches into the earth on an extra point.
Laces out Finkel! I heard he's #2 holder in nation. Times from catch to ball down and laces out is out of this world.
Maybe we get our first commit in the 2014 class.
That's kind of what I'm hoping for, unless its one of the big fish we are going after in the 2013 class (cough cough Treadwell cough).
If it is a commitment, my guess is Malik McDowell.
He was rumored to be a heavy Michigan lean, but his parents wouldn't let him commit until his Junior year. The high school year is wrapping up, so...
/not sayin, just sayin
Commit watch + energy drink while being held in confinement in an office is not a very safe combination.
Do not taunt Happy Fun Wolverine Fan.
Why do people think he's just kidding whenever he says this? It's stupid. The last two times he said this people said the same thing and BOOM there were actual commits. He nor none of the other recruits have ever joked about there being a impending commitment. That's not even a funny joke, wheres the humor in that? Who's the joke upon? Recruits have been wrong but at least we've always known that they were based in reality. Of a commit has ever joked about this please prove me wrong.
'14 DL Malik McDowell?
None of the top 13 guys seem likely to commit immediately (Green/Treadwell) as they haven't taken their intended visits yet, and we just recently made the top 3 of mcquay/bailey
But McDowell has seemed blue since weve heard of him
This is a good guess. I didn't even think of him. He did say he couldn't commit until hes a junior. Technically, schools over for the year and he completed the year so now he's considered a junior as far as the public school system is concerned.
McDowell's parents wanted him to wait until after his sophomore year to make a decision...
Alvin Bailey might be visiting this weekend. Hes Mcquay's teammate.
Is he visiting this weekend? I thought he was going to later in the month. I'm not positive though.
Thought I read over at tremendous this weekend or next.
Not this weekend. Tremendouse mentioned that Paul Harris will vist the 19th and it sounds like Bailey might visit the following weekend.
He said sometime in the next couple weekends. Kind of an ambiguous timeframe, but it should be relatively soon.
With Treadwell not choosing until the end of summer or sometime during football season, then I'm leaning towards McQuay. I can't really think of any other prospective commits at this time. It's been said Green is a long shot at this point.
How he's going to commit to Ohio. Urban decided that he wants Dawson so he's obviously going to get him.
WOOHOO! My guess is P/K!
Throwing that out there and watching a bunch of obsessed fans freak out work wild speculation. It's like throwing a sandwich on a beach with a bunch of sea gulls around.
Typo via Swype.
You forgot to mention that with all those seagulls, someone's bound to get shit on.
To complement your new long snapper. #solidinthereturngame
It's a holder.
That's what you get for having dial-up.
Serious question, does anyone have dial up anymore?
Still uses AOL. I would be willing to bet it's dial-up.
All the cool kids are on Compuserve.
There are still tons of areas not served by cable/DSL, my parents finally got cable internet this year but had to band together with 6 other families to pay for the installation of the lines as the company passed that buck onto them. (btw this is in mid Michigan)
Even the upper peninsula was able to upgrade to DSL
It's obviously a punter, kicker and holder.
Look - a holder touches the ball EVERY GAME. Clearly worth a scholarship.
A kicking tee also touches the ball EVERY GAME.
Who are the top 5* kicking tees out there? We must recruit one. I don't feel comfortable with our walk-on kicking tees.
Currently we pay for the kick off tees to come to Michigan.. Might be a recruiting violation
your mom also touches the ball every game.
Freudian slip! I meant t say a punter. Gotdamnit!
Come on RDT. We all know that the remaining scholarships we have will all be going to field goal holders.
...those jokes about the new LS are never going to get old.
Many people enjoy feeding the birds. And the birds enjoy it to. It's called symbiosis.
yes, but only if people will finally stop beating that dead horse.
This would be a great way to kick-off the weekend.
Yahoo sports has under his profile that he has verbally commited to Michigan
We've known that for about 4 months...
ah...ok I get it now....<hides his embarassed face>
He was refering to someone else...I knew that...
I love little Raven-Symoné! Isn't she just the cutest little thing!? . I.. s
Yeah, unlike present-day Raven. Let's just say she couldn't pull a hood slide and get away with it either.
Must be Ha'Sean (aka HaHa) Clinton-Dix transferring from Bama to Michigan.
for real? Either way I lol'd.
When we get one. We get another. LS baby.
Commit watch and caffeine blows...plus the thought of kate upton.. GRIPS... Smoke it up HERM
there its now in the thread so no one has to say it anymore.
Carry on legitimate speculation...
Rivals and 247 have him listed at 6' 6" and he's 15/16 years old and likely to grow a few more inches. I would tend to think that's pushing it for a DE, could he possibly be looked at a OT prospect?
No, you like DEs to be tall. RVB was 6'6" and Tommy Gholston is 6'8". Wormley is 6'7" or so. That's a pretty common height for an elite SDE.
Julius Peppers is 6'7" / 6'8".
I doubt it's Treadwell. I think we lead for him, but he loves the recruiting process and just announced a top 7, so I doubt he commits that quickly afterwards.
McDowell makes sense, and if I had to bet I'd say him. But I also thinka dark horse commit guy could be Joe Mathis. He's the type of guy who would commit on a random impulse, and Dawson was recently tweeting him saying "just commit."
This commit will probably be more of a WLS. Smaller, but better mobility and coverage skills
Any chance Hoke extended an offer to a Cass Tech 2014 that will be quickly accepted? Dawson would likely know and I've seen it mentioned that a couple of the CT 2014s could be early commits if offered.
Kenton Gibbs, but I think that train sailed with Hurst & Poggi
EDIT: oops, 2014. Could be.
Gibbs is 2013
I'm getting the feeling that this tweet by Dawson was a joke.
Today I've talked to all five of the top 2014s at Cass. It's not any of them
Alright. Just thought I'd throw it out there. Seems like he may have been goofing around. Imagine having the power to throw the internet into a frenzy at 17.
If you have been following Leon McQuay's recruiting you would know he wants to become a producer/beatmaker.
Ive messaged him on Twitter about coming to Michigan to win a championship and to become a better producer and he seems very interested. A lot more then i think people realize. I told him i would help him out and he responded back saying, "Do you go to Michigan?" Unfortunetly, i dont :( but i told him i could help him get his stuff marketed out to a wider audience.
If you dont believe me check his Twitter page. I think McQuay could very well end up at Michigan.
And ive been a reader of MGoBlog for a long ass time but was never tempted on making a profile until now. And BTW this is the best college football blog on the net lol.
to the coaches.
and don't forget our #1 recruiter, Shane Morris...
me saying that he enjoyed my music and even game me a S/O so that's what i replied back saying. He knows im also a producer and a fan not some recruiter.
I know it seems cool and tempting, however, this presents a clear conflict of interest, and if you did end up 'convincing' him tO come to Michigan through this then it could be a major problem for the football team and the university.
I've read the NCAA rules on the subject, and I'm a professional lawyer person, so you can trust me on this: you need to not do this.
You're free to message him, but please don't ever mention Michigana again. That's a recruiting violation.
Don't. Please. Stop. Don't do this.
You might think you're helping us with McQuay, but the more you talk to him, the more creepy it gets. So stop please. Also, if he does decide to come here, that's a recruiting violation.
So please, I'm begging of you... stop.
Many of you know, I work in college athletics administration --- and this is why we all say Twitter is the devil.
It's also why I think it's creepy to "friend" recruits on Facebook or Twitter.
I'm not going to go on my usual rant and get negged to -100. I'll just say that this happens WAY more than most of you realize. And this is pretty innoccent all things considered.
We've had fans acting as representative to the coaching staff or athletics department. Then you also have fans who want "the scoop" for the blogs and they stalk these prospects and literally interview them through Facebook messaging and then post the interview. It's crazy.
You'll never be able to stop it, but this is why I just wish people would let recruits and prospects enjoy HIGH SCHOOL and at least not follow/friend them until they're in college.
Just last month I had an assistant football coach tell me that he had to talk some kid (recruit) off the ledge (from removing the team from his "top 3") because some idiot was trying to recruit him via facebook and he was bad mouth other teams. The kid thought that all of the fans at that school were negative and mean spirited like this one guy.
We actually had someone outside of the football program contact the man and ask why what he was doing and why he was doing it and his response was "I just wanted to help, and besides, when he committed, I wanted to tell my friends that it was me that got him (here)."
I think this might be some sort of recruiting violation. Please stop.
Stop messaging him.
Yo don't be a creep...we don't want him to get creeped out by people like you messaging him.
Try offering him cash or free cars to come here. I hear that helps.
Don't forget the tats...then if that doesn't work do the car thing...
posed as an Ohio State fan and offered recruits lots of free things if they came to OSU. One of them was named Terry or Terrelle or some crap like that. Never did find out what happened to all those guys. Oh well, if something big came of it, I'm sure it would have been in the news or something.
You must be new here...
If any of you guys read the comment he said that mcquay messaged him first about his music and being a producer. If he messaged him back and mentioned michigan than it was not that big of a deal. You guys are freaking out about it and I'm pretty sure it is not a recruiting violation because if it was every person other than a recruiter/coach that talked to a kid would be a violation and guys would be able to talk to a guy about a school they arent even a fan of to get a rival school of the school they actually like
"If you come to Michigan, I can help get your music career off the ground."
Quid. Quo. Quit it.
I'm pretty sure it is a violation, but there is no way to regulate twitter right now.
Also I think the OP posting here thinking we would give him props. I don't think it turned out the way he wanted it to.
The NCAA did not allow schools to provide cream cheese for bagels that the schools supplied to student athletes, pretty sure this might be a bigger deal than that.
We can all stop freaking out now. Losher said he's "pretty sure" it's not a recruiting violation.
...and I don't feel so bad about sending that fire extinguisher to LTT.
well considering I play college football I can say for a fact that it isnt a violation. there is nothing in the ncaa handbook about fans trying to talk recruits into going to a school. now if this guy is offering him free services to get his musical career started when he would normally charge other people for the same services then that would be a violation. Responding to a message sent to you by a recruit as of now is not a violation
Fans are not allowed to contact recruits, in any way that would promote a specific university. By contacting a recruit you immediately become a booster, and once you are a booster than you are not allowed to contact an unsigned recruit and trying to convince them to come to a University.
Raoul did a good job outlining these rules in an earlier board post which is worth a read (link here)
Luckily no one can neg that smile.
do you honestly think responding to these random people who say they can help you is a good idea? Avoid that shit. Always.
Because they seem to be doing a pretty bad job educating their players so I was ordering if there was time to get them on probation before we play them.
Wouldnt be a booster of the school they were talking about, so it wouldn't be a violation.
so here is a picture of a funny old guy
It's official: McDowell has committed to Michigan, per my hopes and dreams
I respect the source, so I now believe he has committed.
and THE PARTY ROOM
Wouldn't Shane Morris also be a recruiting violation then?
If he was right-handed, no one would mistake him for a recruting violation.
I did only tweet to him because he gave me a shoutout but i can see how things can be seen as a problem... And nothing i did involved any money or anything in that nature. But i apologize for any misunderstanding i may caused. I was only trying to inform people that he has more interest in Michigan than people think.
Is that you?
Any day I get to bust out Scarlett is a good day.
I see what you did there
I really wanna see those tig 'ol bitties!
Playing Devil's advocate why is it ok for Shane to recruit other players to the UM rather than a random guy if anyone becomes a booster once they contact them about football.
Honestly, I have no idea. It very well could be against the rules, however I highly highly doubt it would be enforced. Just like I'd be shocked if there was ever an enforcement on people with Twitter saying 'Hey Come to Michigan! #GoBlue!"
Shane could still go to USC if he wanted. He's not a booster. If you've spent money on tickets or anything affiliated with the University, you're a booster, and can't talk to them.
But just in general, to make it easy - IF YOU'RE NOT ALREADY FRIENDS OF THE FAMILY BEFORE THEY BECOME A RECRUIT, DON'T CONTACT THEM FOR ANYTHING, BECAUSE BEYOND BEING AGAINST THE NCAA RULES, TEENAGE BOYS DON'T NEED OR WANT CONTACT FROM CREEPY GUYS. THEY'RE NOT YOUR FRIENDS.
my longshot guess is wilkins....isn't he visiting soon
and didnt see this posted, but isn't Wilkins visiting this weekend? i know he is an Auburn lean. Just saying
Per 247Sports, no Wilkins visit. Should commit to Auburn pretty soon, doubt he reschedules the now cancelled trip to Michigan.
Let's hope it's Malik. If Michigan only signed him in his class, I would still be beyond happy. He's going to one legit player.
Come on treadwell. Or Mathis......
