Imma shock the world tomorrow lol!! You just dont no!!
Imma shock the world tomorrow lol!! You just dont no!!
It means Green will chose a school tommorrow. Pretty much it.
Or it means he will announce he hasn't decided yet.
I'll hold you.
Takes some pills, I hear they are cheap there.
Kids say this all the time. Lots of times they choose the school that everyone expects.
Or they actually do shock the world (for ten seconds) and pick a school that's not even on the list. Suffering an acute case of pessimism today. Thanks, Henry Poggi.
I would go far as to say MOST of the time when a kid says they'll shock the world, they pick the school everyone expects him to pick.
If you really read between the lines you'd know that the shocker is....he's going to choose William and Mary, which is the school he has secretly been planning on attending for years!! Who wouldn't want to play for Coach Jimmye LayCOCK?
Me. I wouldn't want to play for Jimmye Laycock.
James Laycock, I'd be cool with that. But I can't respect a coach named Jimmye.
What Magnus said. I can't remember any instances where a kid said that and then actually shocked anyone. I don't know any OSU fans that think he's going anywhere but UM.
His previous tweet had three schools hash tagged. Aub, Tenn, and UM (in that order- if it means anything)
Worst for first, best for last?
Grammar is good def a Michigan lock.
Nah it was clearly in order from shortest to longest of coaching tenures for each school's head coach
I've always remembered it as: "First is the worst, second is the best, third is the one in the polka dot dress."
OK, VERY likely I am reading too much into this (and I don't make a habit of doing this), but could this be him paying homage to Juwan Howard from the Fab Five days??
That must be it. Just must be....
If he's actually alluding to that, then he's a true Michigan man
I was going to sarcastically say this.
but that Diamond guy last year did that too, and picked Auburn. It means nothing until it means something, knamean?
What if he was doing it as an homage to Muhammad Ali who was born in kentucky and kentucky is next to Tennessee!!!!! OMG HE'S COMMITING TO TENNESSEE!!!
But doesn't Ali currently live in Michigan? Hence...
This is probably the first time a recruit has tried to drum up some interest in his announcement press conference.
I NEVER remember anything like this happening before. Recruits always want their choices to be low key affairs all at home with only their family present.
nothing is objective when it comes to recruiting...
If says 'michigan' tomorrow I will be thrilled.
If not, I will be a little pissed... for about five minutes. then you move on.
Most of the analysts are about 80 percent sure it's Michigan. With our renewed basketball success, I'm sure he's referencing the fab five.
Ole Miss!! Book it!
Fab Five/Muhammed Ali refererence is all. I'm not into recruiting but I understand Green is a big get and need.
I was gonna say he was quoting Juwan Howard after the Temple game.
Oh Gawd I'm not even going to sleep tonight! It's like Christmas Eve guys!!!!!!!!!!!
What do you think his favorite color is?
He's clearly a Jay-Z fan, based on his Twitter handle.
As a Michigan fan, I pray he joins the Wolverines tomorrow. But honestly why would anyone in his position not go play in the SEC? They are so dominant right now as much as I hate it. Please be the better man Green.
thinking Tennessee and Auburn would be a better choice than someone like say, Ohio State, because of the SEC > B1G thing. But...well...UT and Auburn went 8-16 last year including 1-15 in the SEC. Say anything you want about the SEC and it's dominance. Those two schools currently have nothing to do with it.
let's just get this crap overwith. if he comes here, great. if not, it doesn't matter who we have lining up in the backfield, that offensive line will make anyone look good.
But that's really no fun Russale2012. Do you want to live in a world without fun speculation about high school seniors?
What percentage of "the world" do you think knows who this young man is? And I suppose if we take that number and divide it by two thirds, that percentage might be shocked a little. But in the grand scheme of things is it really as important as Manti Teo? Have some perspective people!
Who is "MgoRecruiting"? They just tweeted that Green is going to Auburn.
AFAIK, they haven't broken any news.
I'm guessing you saw their cryptic tweet also.
I saw it, but I have no reason to believe it.
this goes a long way toward explaining why I have never heard of either of them.
That's the same guy who was speaking with Rodney Davis, the fake Michigan commit. I'm starting to wonder if he's stirring up trouble for more Twitter attention and followers.
in Ann Arbor.
Is that you Gus Malzahn? It will be killer sledding weather and hot chicks love to sled. That's my pitch.
edit: Ok. That's enough. After my second Friday martini I've posted three times. Get a grip Marvin. Time to get some food in that belly.
I've got a fever right now. Last night, it caused me to have dreams that I thought were reality at the time. In those dreams, it was Saturday night, and DG had already committed to Michigan. True story. It's a sign.
My only guess would be the coaches want him to gain all the weight he lost back, and recruit him for the oline.
He is giving up football and entering a monastery where he will spend the remainder of his life in reflective silence and prayer.
If he decides not to shock the world and keeps playing football, I hope he picks Michigan, but it seems like we miss out on so many of the high profile recruits who wait until the last minute.
I thought he was entering the monastery to learn the art of negotiating.... Priceline Negotiator!
It's to become a yoga instructing goat farmer like Giovanni Carmazzi... That's what all the greats do.
That he reminded me of Ricky Williams!
Most of the word doesn't even know who he is...Seriously, though, Green will not make or break this class, so there's that.
I'm more concerned about that terrible grammar in his tweet, but I guess I just dont no
So Maurice Hurst retweeted this. Something tells me if he's not worried, we shouldn't be.
MAYBE HE RETWEETED IT BECAUSE HE IS NERVOUS!! OH MY GAAAAAWWWWWWDD!!!1!!1!!!!
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.
But the first two are ND all the way.
Hello Tennessee, Green going Orange. Poggi will stay Blue, he chose Michigan over Alabama before
Oh no, he's going to become the 40th member of Texas A&M's class!!!
I am more looking forward to whether the real Green thread tomorrow will surpass the epic amount of posts from the Josh Garnett one
shit to do this weekend - Home Depot, maybe Bed Bath and Beyond. High school boys aren't interrupting it.
through the diag. They're coming, anytime now.
Lets do it, I will bring my green hat!
A nice little weekend planned with the wife.
Shock the world huh? I doubt it. You can't put anything past the Hungarians.
Can we change the title since there is no reason to "meltdown'
I wish I wouldn't have looked at this thread...and the wait begins
I also believe its a fab five reference.
A great point. Especially since that has been on the replay loop on espnu. Good lookin out
didnt a recruit tweet this last year and then chose exactly who everyone thought he was going to pick (wasnt us but we were in his top group)?
We have had this discussion before. Stop overanalyzing what recruits tweet, and stop following them on Twitter all together.
Scout has the latest word on Green, but I don't have a subscription there.
It says he's announcing tomorrow! Real inside info that you pay for...
Green is not coming here, it's too good to be true. Deveon Smith will be the guy in a couple of seasons.
Especially when it gets drawn out. We haven't had the best success when it comes to near-signing day hat draws in the last few seasons (Jordan Diamond, Josh Garnett, kind of Laquon, that other OL who went to Auburn, etc). Even if Shane Morris retweets every one of Derrick's tweets this whole week, I will still be skeptical
He's going to Tennessee
I mean Auburn
Ok anywhere but Michigan. Let us face it .....
If he come out with as Stanford Pharmacy shirt I'm going to be pissed.
lets put together a list of recent recruits that made decisions between Michigan and other schools..Poggi picked us over Alabama, Diamond picked Auburn, Kozen picked Auburn, Garnett picked stanford..
They have now have fully joined the SEC
This tweet by Auburn 2013 QB commit Jeremy Johnson yesterday, I think has ominous implications about Green's choice. Weve known for a while that his parents were big influences in this decesion and may have wanted him to stay closer to home in the south.
Green and Johnson seem to have a good friendship going (at least via twitter) and im worried he may have shared some news a little early with Johnson. I hope Im wrong!
here's the tweet:
War eagle auburn fans!!! All in its all about family
Only thing I gather from that is that Jeremy Johnson is a real Auburn Man
Are right, but what the hell proof does that tweet prove?
That's the tweet?
I've been feeling really slow this week, but I don't get it. At all.
The closer to home thing by going to auburn is not a valid argument. Ann Arbor is actually three miles closer to home for Mr. Green then Auburn. They are both over 600 miles from Derricks home.
but I'd be slightly more surprised if he chooses Michigan than if he goes elsewhere. And I wouldn't be shocked if the elsewhere is some place other than TN or AU.
If he ends up declining the opportunity to earn a degree from the University of Michigan, I'm not losing a moment of sleep over it.
Sam Webb was optimistic about Garnett last year too and you see what happened with that choice. So tommorow, I will come on this site around 500 pm and see if DGreen committs to Michigan and be the starter next year or if he committs to AU or UT and sit for a year or two.
Classic Michigan fan pessimism. You must look to us Lions fans for tips on how to deal with the limitless disappointments of recruiting. The key is not to set your expectations low, but rather to let them soar to unrivaled heights, so that when disappointment comes the freefall becomes a sweet release, a respite providing you energy to form your biased expectations again. You must bask in your disappoitment. Embrace it like an old friend. Only then will you escape the fear of failure, and have the courage to climb again. I have been to the mountaintop, for I have seen 0-16, and now I do not fear the hats.
And stop following High schools kids on twitter please
Stop posting on MGoBlog.
I'm willing to bet mgoblog will be down between 4:01 and 5:00 tomorrow
thats why i said 500 pm
I guarantee that he's committing to Michigan. All the experts are predicting Michigan. It would be shocking if he doesn't.
I will come back and blame you, graybeaver, tomorrow if Derrick Green picks Auburn or Tennessee or any other entity that is not the University of Michigan
I just chatted with one of my closest friends who is a crazed Auburn fan, and he said that he doesn't even want Derrick, because they have running backs coming out of holes they didn't even know they had... Not sure about that but I hope he commits to Michigan! Instant starting time as freshman! I also liked how he tweeted that he was deciding for he next 3-4 years. Love the confidence there! Go blue!
Green referenced "shock the world."
Shock = "Ole Sparky."
"Ole Sparky" is a reference to death by electric chair.
Tennessee and Alabama have the death penalty; Michigan does not.
Lethal injection for crimes after December 31, 1998; others may select electrocution.
Choice of Injection or Electrocution.
It is post 12/31/98.
Green will commit to Auburn.
Unless he meant NCAA death penalty. In which case, he's going to SMU.
Your metaphors, they frighten me.
...your username frightens me.
I love it when a 17 year old says he'd going to "shock the world'. I've got news for him - picking his college - whichever one he chooses - will NOT shock the world in the least.
If he really wants to "shock the world" do something that 17 year old's never, ever do. Like returning his parents car with gas in it after he takes it out or making his bed without his mom yelling at him. Now THAT would shock the word.
Or cure cancer....that one's still out there for the taking. Nobody's expecting a 17 year to do that.
I guess that's what I have to look forward too when I'm older. Funny post
I know he said tmrw, but, Is there an exact time that we can fast forward to? Is a t.v. Time reserved on all the networks?
shock the world = 3 vowels in total.
"Green" starts with the letter G. Same first letter of the name Gabe.
Derrick Green is Gabe Newell.
"Shock the world" = Half Life 3 Confirmed
Another well-founded and logical conclusion.
Well played, Sir.
There are certain times when you just have to trust your gut and read a kids body language and mannerisms. Green looks like a Michigan back to me. He carries himself like a Michigan man and just gives me the feel of a B1G back. He could shock us all and commit elsewhere but it would be against a metric ton of sense and conventional thinking. Logic and the past two months says he will be a Wolverine. That being said logic doesn't always prevail in college football recruiting.
Hopefully he is just trying to give some excitement to decision everyone is expecting.
Did anyone think maybe it's a homage to the fab five?
Is he has no idea who Juwan Howard is and stated he would shock the world because he is going to pick the school most expect him to...ah, those teenagers.
This is a serious question. Just curious what time I should start checking mgoblog tomorrow at work.
Going to announce between 4-6.
Should be home in time for wife to give me a weird look regardless of his decision.
Auburn does not and will not lose a recruit to a non-SEC school.
negativity around here, maybe it's time for people just to sit back, stop speculating and let Derrick pick his school. If he goes blue, it would be flippin epic, if not, so be it.
Do we get muppets if he commits? I know it's probably jumping the gun for muppets since he's still in high school...buuuuut damn it'll be nice to have someone who can break a tackle not named Denard.
that he knew where he was going at the all american game, and now reading a rivals article he said he's 80-90% sure where hes going. I felt like at the ua game he was solid blue, down to taking pics with the team, now I don't feel as confident.
Even if he was 100% sure, he's had in-home visits from all the schools this week. It's not that surprising that he would be a little less positive right now.
Calm down. He's blue. Did anyone not see what Green retweeted a few posts below? It was a Blockhams cartoon of him selecting a Michigan hat with the quote,"the best decision you will ever make." Some good with the Internets can link it if they so please. Go Blue!
Yeah, I heard Greg Mattison told Green he could be the next Ray Lewis.
You have mentioned this before but how similar/different was the competition Deveon and Derrick Green competed against...who faced better HS competition?
Kind of what I figured, hard to really tell though just watching a couple of highlight films...is Deveon faster than Rawls?
Both of them have claimed a 4.5-ish time in the forty. In my opinion, both are pretty equally slow. If they break long runs, it will be because of broken tackles, not because they're outrunning anyone.
Panthers5 will probably pop out of the woodwork and start another argument, but here's the deal with the competition:
Green faced better athletes on a regular basis.
Smith faced teams with better records.
If you watch Smith's highlights, you will see a steady stream of him being chased down and cutting back against 5'7", 145 lb. white kids. And don't get me wrong - the highlights are impressive, and he put up good numbers. But the athletes Smith played against aren't the same caliber as they are in the Richmond area.
So you mean they aren't white kids chasing down Green in Richmond?
Bigger, faster, stronger.
I watched his film, but never saw "a steady stream of him getting chaced down." Maybe you can point those out. Unless you're counting the plays where he breaks several tackles. You normally don't hit top speed when you have two guys hanging onto you for dear life, even if those guys are 145 pounds.
You normally don't have two guys hanging on for dear life if you're outrunning them.
And those guys hanging on for dear life will be 200 lbs. or more in college.
The defense starts out in front of the offense in football. You have to get passed them before you can outrun them. This isn't track.
Thanks for telling me how football works.
Regardless, we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I think Smith lacks speed, and there are a lot of people who agree with me, including:
and Josh Helmholdt from Rivals, who has said that Smith's lack of a 4th star is largely because he lacks breakaway speed.
