Coming in for Iowa? Stadium Street Bridge will be open Edit: Open for traffic Wednesday

Only one game left in the season for it to make a difference, but if you're coming in for the game Saturday and you've had to deal with the closed bridge all year, for one week traffic should be a little more mobile.

Should make golf course access easier if nothing else.

Edit: I passed by it tonight and it was still closed. So right now they had a grand opening for a closed thing. Kinda like the parking structure.

Edit 2:  Sorry for multiple changes. Just didn't want to steer anyone wrong. The post below says the same thing I've now heard...that it's open for traffic Wednesday, so Saturday should be good.

I'm not going to be there this weekend but we were at the UMass game and having that bridge out made getting around a royal pain in the ass. Even for the basketball games it sucked.

My last day as an intern for the City of Ann Arbor was helping close down the south lane of that bridge. That was in February of 2009, so almost 4 years it took to fix that bridge. I find it sad that a bridge that handles that much traffic took that long to fix, especially considering the concrete beams were crumbling.

...They immediately reduced it to one lane when they learned it was unsafe. So the barrels went up a looong time before they knew how they were going to fix it.

Second problem: Figuring out where the money was coming took some time. As I recall they were working on getting federal stimulus money

Third problem: It was a big honking job. State Street shut down quite a bit over the summer, etc.

I had thought the full closure and demolition began last fall, but for some time before that, the bridge had been down to only two lanes in preparation for the demolition - maybe as early as last summer if not before that even. I know that we had it partially shut down on occasion from late 2010 to last summer so we could do work at the request of the city. This was really years in the making, this project, between the city, the University, various utilities and the like.

I think the restoration and landscaping is due for the spring, but it will be great to have it open for traffic at long last.

yeah it was down to two lanes starting in 2009 and took two years just to find the money and beging work on the bridge. It was fun watching people go from 4 to two lanes just like that however. One guy even knocked his side mirror off on one of the reflectors on the orange barrels.
