Columbus (yes THAT Columbus) BLUE fans...

Asking for help once again fellas. Tremendous recommendations for my trip to Clearwater to watch the game last weekend. Ended up going with the Brown Boxer and was not disappointed. Met some fellow Wolverines and had a great time watching the beat down on Northwestern. I am now in need of more help than ever. Will be in Columbus, Ohio this weekend running the Columbus marathon on Sunday ( before asking why it is one of the few flat and fast to Boston qualifiers close to where I live). Now to the important stuff. I will be arriving on Saturday afternoon and am in need of a location to watch out fellow Wolverines work over Sparty. Preferably a place where I won't get killed. How accurate is the MgoBar locator in this case? Does anyone have a better recommendation? Thanks in advance guys!

On Bethel, I believe has been the location for the most part.

I don't think I"ve gotten the weekly email yet, though. It's just off 315 so should be easy to get to whether you are driving or taking a cab.

Edit:

Did get the email. It's at Gallo's Tap Room, as usual. With the MSU alumni assn group.

Currently live in Columbus and frequent Novaks Tavern. Its on Hight St. across from the Convention Center.  Great beer deals all day and plenty of TV's, though they MAY not have the sound on.

I will probably be there and am friends with the bartenders.  You may catch a little harmless flack there, but you won't be in danger of anything.

I'm unsure about Michigan-friendly places in Columbus, but there are some really great breweries there if you're into the the craft beer scene.

via UM Central Ohio Alumni Club email:

"The annual tradition of the joint-club TV party for the Michigan/Michigan State football game continues this year, as we gather with the local MSU alumni club to watch the game together on Saturday, October 17th, at Gallo's Tap Room, when the Wolverines host the Spartans for the first time in 3 years for one of the oldest intrastate rivalries. The Wolverines lead the series 68-34-5.

Each year at this get-together, the winning team's club takes home the State of Michigan Divide trophy to cherish until next year's game. Come cheer on the Maize and Blue to victoryand regaining the coveted trophy this year!

Kick-off is set for 3:30 pm. Take advantage of this great opportunity for true "whole State of Michigan" fellowship, football and fun!

Can we get the "Where can I find a Michigan bar?" section stickied?

And how hard is it to Google the Alumni Association clubs of particular areas to find out where they do their events?

Sorry to be blunt, but every day another thread, and every day the same "check the sticky."

The OP wasn't specifically asking for M Alumni events in Columbus but rather where in general he might go to watch the game with fellow MGoUsers - there's nothing wrong with asking that in the general forum, especially seeing as how it's not immediately apparent how recent the MGoBar sidebar information is.  This definitely rates more discussion than 'check the sticky'

Anyways, to the OP, yeah, Gallo's in Upper Arlington is usually where the UM alum club meets.  I havent gone to many of their events myself mostly since Michigan is 0-2 when I go.  Best of luck in the marathon!  Make sure you go to the bar off Bethel Road and not the restaurant in Nottingham since they are two separate places.  (Having said that, I've heard good things about the restaurant's neo-Cajun food)

I'm in Cincinnati and the local alumni association website says they'll have a watch party for the Notre Dame game this year!

Also the UM friendly Cincinnati bar in the sticky is closed.

I don't really see the harm in having this topic come up periodically for larger cities that have reasonably large alumni/fan bases. But then I don't really get all the bitching about forum topics anyway.

To answer your question, I don't know of any "pro-Michigan" bars, but I do know that Patrick J's at Clintonville may be fairly neutral.  Let me check with my friend (I believe it's his uncle owns it and is a Michigan fan) and I'll follow up...

Great sports city for its size.  Played many tennis tournaments there, and always hung out near the hockey arena, and wore my Michigan colors proudly.

You'll get plenty of comments, but most are in good fun.  Don't worry, they are not smart enough to figure out how to kill you.

Walking north on High from there towards the arts district will get you some great bistro type bars with tables and great food.  Ask around, the people are friendly.  If you go too far north you will get to campus, where the cretin ratio is higher.  Touring the Shoe can be fun though.

Whatever you do, tell them the day of reckoning is coming.

And good luck in the race.

Alumni game watching event is at Gallo's (joint event with local Sparty alumni).  Great place, owned by a couple of Buckeye brothers.  I'm always surprised that the AAUM hosts events there, as there's a mural of Brutus ripping the head off a wolverine and Michigan decals on urinals.  But, the Gallo's are great people, so go there.  Otherwise, you'll be hard pressed to find a place where you won't stick out like a sore thumb.  Not a problem over the past several years, becoming more of a problem as Michigan continues to win big.   Nobody will beat you up too badly (this weekend), but they'll absolutely want to talk Michigan "comeback".  More annoying than anything.  Good luck in the marathon!

There's a BW3, just west of 315 on bethel. It's got a small back room area where they usually set some of us up for Michigan hockey games. They're usually pretty nice, and we generally have the whole area to ourselves for as long as we want it.
