I'm glad its an even crappier day for MSU's spring game than it was for ours. But I'm sure it will provide the recruits a real glimpse of how packed that stadium is on game day.

Damn, there are literally tens of people at Spartan Stadium.

It's also nice to see how many quality players the Spartans lost. They haven't recruited well enough the last two seasons to make up for those offensive losses.

I appreciate your insight, even when I disagree. I always rooted for state when we weren't playing them in many previous seasons. That has changed, because Dantonio is such a low class, dirty cock sucker. He is a true Ohio fan. I hate hail marys, extra time on the clock and Denard's goal line fumbles. I will again root for sparty when Dantonio is fired in 3 seasons, after an NCAA infraction, and if they aren't playing Michigan. Why doesn't Ohio have another Big ten team?

Finished 11th out of 12 teams in rushing last year with a veteran QB and experienced recievers. Im not sure they return a reciever with more than a couple catches in their career so without a legitimate passing game threat I would expect the rushing game to suffer again. MSU has a very good defense but will not be very good offensively.

Because the MGoCommunity generally likes to have reasonable discussions with rival fans and college football fans in general.  Think about all of the good information that RollDamnTide has provided or that Irish provides around the Notre Dame game.

I support having fans of other schools on the site, it helps to reduce groupthink amongst ourselves and provide alternate perspectives on Michigan and non-Michigan events.  As long as those rival fans aren't trolling and are well mannered, there shouldn't be any problems.  Since spartanfan123 was providing legimately useful information (wouldn't you point out if half our starting O-line wasn't playing?) I support him.

Perhaps, TTT, the better question is, why are you here?

I think that there is a portion of the population here that likes the "groupthink" that you mention.  I do think it is the minority as there are many reasonable discussions carried out in a civil manner.

Having said that, I think the motive of spartanfan123 is to serve more as a mosquito in our ear than to provide "valuable insight."  I would welcome that insight, but his comments in a Michigan football blog come across as slightly trollish.

Sparty has a young defense with good talent.  It's a shame rich rod let all those 4 stars migrate up I-96 to EL.  It will be nice to see Dantonio's sour puss after we beat him.

Yeah ... all those 4-stars from SE Michigan ...

2008: none (Aside: Here and below I understand that it wasn't fully RichRod's class.)

2009: Chris Norman, Jeremy Gainer (http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/football/recruiting/commitments/2…)

2010: "Tom" Gholston who, by most accounts, was never going to UMich regardless of who was coaching (http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/football/recruiting/commitments/2…)

2011: Lawrence Thomas (ditto) (http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/football/recruiting/commitments/2…)

That's four guys in four years. Again, if the gossip is to be believed, only 2009's recruits can be counted.

Did RichRod strike out completely? Let's see.

2008: Boubacar Cissoko, Kenny Demens, Mike Martin (Again, yes, all Lloyd's recruits, strictly speaking ... included here for the sake of completeness.)

2009: William Campbell, Cameron Gordon

2010: none (d'oh)

2011: Raymon Taylor, Brennen Beyer

So, what was your point, again? In raw numbers (4-4 for the '09 - '11 classes) it looks like a draw to me. Hardly an epic disaster.

hit the QB, they would be out of QBs.  Let State claim "we split up our line."  While that's true, they're getting beat down on every pass play.  They are the ones claiming to have so much depth...

This is the worst Spring football I've watched this  year.

I'm coming out of this game neither optimistic nor pessimistic. Kind of like every spring game I've watched for any team. Even though it's kind of fun, it's pointless to speculate and make predictions based off a practice in April.

With that said, I'm going to make some predictions anyway:

- Wide receiver core looks shaky. If Arnett waiver doesn't get approved and if Burbridge does not qualify, I can comfortably say that I'll be worried about this unit, if I am not already.

- Connor Cook is a true freshman so I was expecting him to struggle, especially since he is playing double duty. I wish I got to see some of Maxwell instead.

- Gholston has the potential to be an All American and will probably leave after this year

- Taiwan Jones will be the next "diamond in the rough" type star on the defense.

- Nick Hill looks pretty good as a change of pace back

- It was a little awkward seeing the sideline correspondent and Dantonio interacting.

Thanks for your input!  We're going to have the same problems at WR this year unless somebody steps up their game.  In all honesty, I think using a spring game to expose weaknesses serves a much better purpose than using them as a showcase of talent.  We would have liked to see Denard more than one series, but nobody is worried about his ability to run the offense.

"Gholston has the potential to be an All American and will probably leave after this year ..."

Gholston also has the potential to be arraigned on assault charges.  Were that to happen, he'd also be gone after this year.  Or not, in East Lansing.

It was a little awkward seeing the sideline correspondent and Dantonio interacting.

Any "interaction" that involves Dantonio and another human being is going to be "a little awkward."  Unless that person doesn't mind getting "the hell out of the way" at Dantonio's direction.
