I'm glad its an even crappier day for MSU's spring game than it was for ours. But I'm sure it will provide the recruits a real glimpse of how packed that stadium is on game day.
Damn, there are literally tens of people at Spartan Stadium.
It's also nice to see how many quality players the Spartans lost. They haven't recruited well enough the last two seasons to make up for those offensive losses.
Those losses were all "bad" recruits.
I'll give you that. Dantonio and his staff have done really well developing talent.
Edit: SpartanFan's post wasn't trolling. Shame on people who down vote everything positive about an opposing team.
Yep. There are thousands of guys that will play D1 ball, recruiting services cant accurately rate all of them. The tape of the recruits that we have coming in looks infinitely times better than the ones we lost.
Btw, do I get downvoted because im a spartan fan? lol
You're not actually getting downvoted (for the most part). Your current "karma" score is 0, meaning that the default score for new posts is 0, which means you probably pissed people off and got downvoted a lot previously.
I appreciate your insight, even when I disagree. I always rooted for state when we weren't playing them in many previous seasons. That has changed, because Dantonio is such a low class, dirty cock sucker. He is a true Ohio fan. I hate hail marys, extra time on the clock and Denard's goal line fumbles. I will again root for sparty when Dantonio is fired in 3 seasons, after an NCAA infraction, and if they aren't playing Michigan. Why doesn't Ohio have another Big ten team?
It's not like those were highly rated guys coming in.
We can do better
He's not happy.
With those backs and the surprisingly good OL.
At QB, WR and TE though, that's where a lot of eyes will be - like UM, sans the QB questions.
cook doesnt look good so far. luckily he still has 2 years till he competes for a starting job
Yeah, and everyone is going to know it's coming. Maxwell will be better than the QB playing today, but they're going to have issues convincing teams that they have a legitimate receiving threat.
Finished 11th out of 12 teams in rushing last year with a veteran QB and experienced recievers. Im not sure they return a reciever with more than a couple catches in their career so without a legitimate passing game threat I would expect the rushing game to suffer again. MSU has a very good defense but will not be very good offensively.
And did Bielema make a deal with the devil for their last 5 QBs or something?
This game is gonna end 0-0.
The only realistic conclusion anyone will be able to draw from this game is that MSU is in a lot of trouble if Maxwell gets hurt.
all the fans are just laying in the weeds too. They're hard to see there
I know their defensive line is good, but their O Line looks seriously suspect.
Sparty may have the worst O-Line in the big ten.
Gotta remember that this is half of the o-line. its not first team offesne vs first team defense, it was a draft
Why are you here?
Because the MGoCommunity generally likes to have reasonable discussions with rival fans and college football fans in general. Think about all of the good information that RollDamnTide has provided or that Irish provides around the Notre Dame game.
I support having fans of other schools on the site, it helps to reduce groupthink amongst ourselves and provide alternate perspectives on Michigan and non-Michigan events. As long as those rival fans aren't trolling and are well mannered, there shouldn't be any problems. Since spartanfan123 was providing legimately useful information (wouldn't you point out if half our starting O-line wasn't playing?) I support him.
Perhaps, TTT, the better question is, why are you here?
what's with the "no one cares" in a B1G spring game thread?
I also appreciate the insight
I think that there is a portion of the population here that likes the "groupthink" that you mention. I do think it is the minority as there are many reasonable discussions carried out in a civil manner.
Having said that, I think the motive of spartanfan123 is to serve more as a mosquito in our ear than to provide "valuable insight." I would welcome that insight, but his comments in a Michigan football blog come across as slightly trollish.
after TTTs comment i was ready to get attacked haha. and i try to provide insight, not be like a "mosquito"
No one cares
but it's also half the defensive line
Sparty has a young defense with good talent. It's a shame rich rod let all those 4 stars migrate up I-96 to EL. It will be nice to see Dantonio's sour puss after we beat him.
I'd rather not see Dantonio's genitals, thank you very much.
Yeah ... all those 4-stars from SE Michigan ...
2008: none (Aside: Here and below I understand that it wasn't fully RichRod's class.)
2009: Chris Norman, Jeremy Gainer (http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/football/recruiting/commitments/20...)
2010: "Tom" Gholston who, by most accounts, was never going to UMich regardless of who was coaching (http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/football/recruiting/commitments/20...)
2011: Lawrence Thomas (ditto) (http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/football/recruiting/commitments/20...)
That's four guys in four years. Again, if the gossip is to be believed, only 2009's recruits can be counted.
Did RichRod strike out completely? Let's see.
2008: Boubacar Cissoko, Kenny Demens, Mike Martin (Again, yes, all Lloyd's recruits, strictly speaking ... included here for the sake of completeness.)
2009: William Campbell, Cameron Gordon
2010: none (d'oh)
2011: Raymon Taylor, Brennen Beyer
So, what was your point, again? In raw numbers (4-4 for the '09 - '11 classes) it looks like a draw to me. Hardly an epic disaster.
Who will score more points / runs today? Tigers bats or the two MSU offenses?
For those watching at home.
If they don't get to the Rose Bowl this year I don't know if they'll ever get there with the gap closing with Michigan and Ohio getting top 5 recruiting classes.
I think they've got two years. Their schedule sets up pretty nicely for them in 2013. After that I think they slip.
hit the QB, they would be out of QBs. Let State claim "we split up our line." While that's true, they're getting beat down on every pass play. They are the ones claiming to have so much depth...
This is the worst Spring football I've watched this year.
I checked the Sparty roster online to see if he was still around, and it says he's 280 lbs?
The coaches are bulking him up to play at DE this year and next.
By most accounts he's been pretty useless since he got there. He's not going to be playing D1 football this life time.
...that MSU has worked very hard on turning the neutral zone violation into an actual play. Excellent innovation by the coordinators there.
I'm coming out of this game neither optimistic nor pessimistic. Kind of like every spring game I've watched for any team. Even though it's kind of fun, it's pointless to speculate and make predictions based off a practice in April.
With that said, I'm going to make some predictions anyway:
- Wide receiver core looks shaky. If Arnett waiver doesn't get approved and if Burbridge does not qualify, I can comfortably say that I'll be worried about this unit, if I am not already.
- Connor Cook is a true freshman so I was expecting him to struggle, especially since he is playing double duty. I wish I got to see some of Maxwell instead.
- Gholston has the potential to be an All American and will probably leave after this year
- Taiwan Jones will be the next "diamond in the rough" type star on the defense.
- Nick Hill looks pretty good as a change of pace back
- It was a little awkward seeing the sideline correspondent and Dantonio interacting.
Thanks for your input! We're going to have the same problems at WR this year unless somebody steps up their game. In all honesty, I think using a spring game to expose weaknesses serves a much better purpose than using them as a showcase of talent. We would have liked to see Denard more than one series, but nobody is worried about his ability to run the offense.
Is that the core of your corps? Or the full complement of the entire corps? Less than a corps would be a division, wouldn't it?
"Gholston has the potential to be an All American and will probably leave after this year ..."
Gholston also has the potential to be arraigned on assault charges. Were that to happen, he'd also be gone after this year. Or not, in East Lansing.
It was a little awkward seeing the sideline correspondent and Dantonio interacting.
Any "interaction" that involves Dantonio and another human being is going to be "a little awkward." Unless that person doesn't mind getting "the hell out of the way" at Dantonio's direction.
You seem like a fun person to be around.
Mr. Fun says, "Okay, here's what we're going to do... How many guys here want to talk about Michigan State? One? Two? Why don't you two guys go back there, in the corner, and talk about the Spartans..."
Sorry, we usually only let Section 1 out of his cage to go after the Freep. Someone must have fallen asleep on guard duty today...
Gholston is a terror. He was very impressive in every game I saw last year of Sparty, and I hope he is so good (ex the Michigan game) this year he takes his talent to south beach... or the NFL. Their defense as a whole is impressive with the LBs as well, will be interesting to see how they do without Worthy but Gholston could be on his way to a top 10 pick if he continues as last year's pace. Have no idea how Maxwell will do but it looks like Ohio (State) North with a good RB corp, servicable QB, and a ton of defensive talent.
"4 or 5 stars are the norm" Which team are they talking about?
- Gholston looks great
- LBs look good
- who knows on that interior DL
- Cook is inaccurate
- don't see any playmakers on Offense
- depth on OL is poor
- apparently this OL can't block a Sparty A gap blitz either. Are these guys invisible?
- Nick Hill looks less electric
- lol B1G announcer saying 4/5 star recruits are now the norm for Sparty
pretty much what was expected
MSU also foolishly debuted next year's version of "Little Giants" and "Mousetrap".

Fortunately, Sparty seems prone to fumbling.
We'll have Roundtree and Gallon, but I'm a little worried about who will fill Hemmingway's shoes of a big down field threat.
I am ashamed that I am sitting in front of my tv watching this steaming pile of poo.
Cook is a freshman and plays like it
There's a lot of swagger on the sidelines and on the field after the play. Reminds me of Miami (YTM) of the 80s. Dude's standing over each other after a hit. Posing after an INT.
Tommy Gholson on the sidelines with a knee wrapped. Hope he didn't injure it while lining up as a safety.
Speaking of Tom, his team justy lost. Enjoy your weenie, big fella.
And finally, some parting comments from Sam the Eagle. Very humble, as usual: "We're a good football team" "Very impressed with our defense" "We'll hit people" Quite a contrast from that guy in Ann Arbor.
The real question is whether it was necessary or unnecessary roughness that got Gholston hurt.
Dantonio said he got his feelings hurt haha
What channel is the Wisconsin spring game on?
It will be on delay at Sunday at 8PM
I think you have to pay for it.
