College Gameday/Early Games Open Thread
I was actually embarrassed for Michigan State's football team, that program, and the school because there is no place for that. He is not representing that university well when he goes out there...you don't have to mar your performance by doing something so stupid! That was a punk move and he didn't need to do that. They also all agreed that this and like incidents reflect poorly on the coach. They discussed how the coaches are more like friends than coaches to the players, that discipline is lacking, and that player's don't respect the coaches authority.

It's one of those unique things that makes college football awesome. Period. I'd take anything Gameday does above a sterile in-studio NFL pregame show with a bunch of well-coiffed washed-up coaches trying to find a way to make their Super Bowl rings flash just right for the cameras.

Eeee ... you're elevating Corso's schtick to the level of (say) marching bands? Sorry, again -- I just don't see it.
I agree on the NFL pregame shows, though. They're intolerable. NFL focus groups are probably more pitiful than ones for college football.

I wonder how many people watching even know who Mateen Cleaves is these days.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:49 PM ^
He was a Detroit Pistons 1st round draft pick BUST! That's who he is!

What kind of uncreative ignorant asshead makes a sign reading "Against the Matzo"? Really?
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:01 PM ^
Corso gets it right.

Gus Johnson calling the OK St game on FX. I know which game I'm watching

I sent a crapton of tuition dollars to Madison, and so I generally root for Wisky when we're not playing them. I'm rooting for them especially fervently tonight to put a beatdown on the Juggalos in EL.

Seeing Sammy Watkins play is still depressing. Kid is the most exciting freshmen in the country.

why does Pam Ward always get Big Ten games?

Their voices sound really similar, but if you take literally one second to listen to the actual commentary, you will realize that Mowins actually adds value instead of demeaning players and exhibiting a glaring lack of knowledge.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:23 PM ^
Well said. Aside from the unfortunate voice I've found her to be average to above average on most Saturdays.

I like this kid

the big ten looks like the acc circa 2007 (everyone beat everyone). OR purdue looks scary...Illinois not so good and Sparty our toughest opponent this year
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:44 PM ^
Anyone catch Herbs pick the Tigers to pull it out today? ... referring to the Auburn TIGERS vs. LSU TIGERS game. Bold prediction Kirk. Unless it's a tie, he nailed it.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:46 PM ^
Or are just both mediocre and Illinois got a lot of breaks to start the year?
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:52 PM ^
I've suspected for some time that Illinois is a mediocre team that happened to play over its heads in that 3-point win over ASU. This is a team that barely squeaked by WMU and a partially Persa-less Northwestern.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:48 PM ^
aren't you supposed to have a good defense?
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:49 PM ^
could be a tough game next week if they're executing like this
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
I was just thinking the same thing. They are shredding Illinois and using plays Michigan has had some trouble with.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:57 PM ^
That Siller wildcat set is gona be trouble for UM. Not good whether he keeps it or gives it up for that jet sweep. Hopefully Ryan & Beyer have seen it enough to improve.

So which one is it: Purdue is playing out of their minds, or Illinois is playing "just turrible"??
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:17 PM ^
I think that, like us, Illinois got a lot of hype because of a high ranking that probably wasn't truly deserved. Illinois is a team that was waiting to fire their coach at the beginning of the year. We're starting to see a bit more of the "true" Illinois team the last two weeks. That, said, Purdue looks like a surprisingly solid team that we cannot overlook next week.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
are derping it up
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:16 PM ^
I see you used derp as a verb.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
right?
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:54 PM ^
Iowa is looking pretty weak against Indiana. Who'd have thought that Purdue would look like our toughest opponent over the next three weeks?
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:55 PM ^
Wow, Purdue has dominated this game so far. 21-0.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
Ole Miss 17 - Arkansas 7 make me know that I can't predict college football or even what I will have for lunch.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:59 PM ^
Just random, every year. The Fightin' Heisenbergs.
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:57 PM ^
Illinois experiencing inevitable regression to the Zook.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:03 PM ^
I was just thinking "same ol' Illinois."
October 22nd, 2011 at 12:58 PM ^
There's a lot of people at the Purdue game...
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:04 PM ^
Homecoming. The end zone looks a bit sparse when they show shots of the band, but the sideline seats are full.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:12 PM ^
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:17 PM ^
I don't think Illinois is all that great, but it will be a road game, and Champaign's another one of those wind-tunnel stadiums.
October 22nd, 2011 at 2:28 PM ^
They dropped a 17-7 game against OSU last week
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:15 PM ^
Hopefully Gholston was watching. That's the kind of hit that makes you look badass, not like a douchbag.
Hopefully the Illinois receiver is okay, obviously.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:22 PM ^
DERP DERP DERP
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:23 PM ^
It is sooo Illinois to be down 21-0 at halftime to Purdue.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
I thought Purdue was supposed to be one of our easier games this season?

McNutt is looking a bit like Mike Wallace today.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:31 PM ^
Iowa is hard to figure out. Most of the year they've looked pretty good offensively, but then they went to PSU and scored 3 points.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:34 PM ^
Clemson-UNC is sloppy.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:37 PM ^
Someone told me that the Indiana coach is a huge asshole who's pissed off that they're not winning and he's taking it out on his coaches and players right now.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:43 PM ^
They have had a huge number of players quit the team since he's been hired.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
Kiel may soon open up his recruiting again, which would be a massive loss to IU's prospects. I actually feel bad for the Hoosiers at this point - they haven't been relevant for decades now, and they get rid of a decent guy (if a little bit of a hothead) for a jerk who can't help pissing off everyone.
October 22nd, 2011 at 1:58 PM ^
May? He already has.
