College Gameday for Northwestern?

Submitted by arsenal926 on

So obviously we have to take care of business against Maryland next weekend, but I'm thinking there's a pretty good chance Colege Gameday will be heading to Ann Arbor for our showdown with Northwestern. NW will likely be around 12-15 range and Michigan in the 20-25. Now normally this wouldn't be worthy of gameday, but the week 6 slate is complete crap. Only competition I can see is: LSU at unranked South Carolina and #24 Oklahoma State against WVU who will probaly be ranked by week 6.

Michigan vs. MSU is also a real possibility if Gameday picks some random school. (which I'd totally be ok with since gameday is something I have no intention of attending)

What's the SEC slate that weekend?  GameDay had a great line this morning, not sure if anyone else heard them, but it was something like:  "Well, with the SEC stumbling a little bit, the rest of the nation might be able to catch up and get a little attention!"

Not good.

Clemson/Georgia Tech (who lost today) and ND/Navy are probably the biggest games. FSU/Miami are Texas/OU are that weekend as well - so they have rivalry games.

I think they'll go to ND/Navy that weekend and be in A2 the following weekend when we play MSU.

They should be here for gameday. MSU will be top 3 and we could be hovering around 15. No way they'd pass that up considering it would be Harbaugh's first major/rivalry test. Then again, I don't know the slate for that week. I don't think they'll pick us and NW because NW isn't enough of a draw. They'd probably pick LSU and SC.

Gameday is at Clemson for Notre Dame next weekend.  Doubt they would cover a ND on back-to-back weekends, so ND-US is out.  That Bama Texas A&M game could be a top 10'ish matchup. But it'll likely be the CBS game so maybe they skip that.  And they also already did a Bama game this season.

Florida-LSU could be a good one too. And it could be an ESPN game.

Tough to top MSU-Michigan though provided we get past NW and Maryland.

...some bullshit D3 or JuCo place for some "rivalry" game that is important to 14 Americans. They have been doing that the last couple years... like going out to North Dakota or whatever. I would bet all of the dollars on it.

If Northwestern wins up to then they will have two great wins and an impressive record; we will have wins over BYU and some scrubs. By ranking it might wind up being the most attractive top 25 matchup, but it's not that great. Oklahoma -Texas might be more interesting on a national level, among other games that feature at least one team that is oh-so-close to making it a great matchup.

A week like that is a prime week for one of Gameday's "alternate" locations, where they go to a lesser known spot. And, FWIW, I think it's awesome that they do that.

They'd rather come to Ann Arbor for the MSU game the following week, as Michigan vs. Northwestern doesn't really entice anyone other than Michigan fans. Gameday also works I believe to try and not go to the same location more than once a year.

But I didn't neg you. I think we'll be ranked tomorrow. BYU was no cupcake, it's had one of the toughest schedules albeit with some bloody hail mary's. We're a top 25 CFL team. Sportswriters, coaches and computers can smell what we've stepped in with Harbaugh & Co. and it's SWEET PERFUME. Everybody wants Michigan to be back, even our rivals.

It's hard to go from getting no votes straight to top 25. That is a lot of teams to jump after beating a team that was only ranked 22nd. Voters tend to be hesitant about teams jumping other teams that did not lose, which is one of the more frustrating things about polls.
I am not saying we shouldn't be ranked, just that I don't think it will happen until we beat Northwestern.

A #22 teeam with the hardest schedule in the country and we beat them by 31 and shut them out.  Not ranking Michigan in the top 25 would be unbelievably disrespectful.  If they aren't ranked, I hope the team feeds off that disrespect for the remainder of the season.  None of the national media and talking heads believed in this team, and look what they are showing them!  So proud of this team and they deserve respect.

Not with UM-MSU on the immediate horizon, and UM-OSU in November. Northwestern has no national juice anyhow—no one really care much about them outside the BIG.

If Michigan runs the table, do we have a good shot at the playoffs?  TCU and Baylor both look lackluster, I think we can count the Big 12 out yet again.  Assuming OSU's only loss is to us and we win the Big Ten Championship game, I think they are out as well.  ND throws a wrench into things.  Oregon is out via the MSU < UM win.  LSU doesn't have a QB worth spit.  FSU worries me because the ACC is hot garbage.  Though the ND Clemson game should rule out at least one of them.

Overall, I think we have a great shot!

I'm just calling it like I see it.  I don't see a team in the country that would consistently beat this team.  It's a travesty rankings are based on record and not actual performance.  OSU has done NOTHING and is still ranked #1.  That HUGE game against VT?   Yeah, they got blown out by ECU today.  OSU is trash, their QB play is garbage, the coaching is miserable, and they can't put teams away.
