Based on Schiano's quote, I'm pretty sure he is referring to the depth of the D-Line as a whole. Schiano says he has coached better individual D-Linemen like Gerald McCoy, but never a group as deep as Ohio State this year. There are 6 incumbent starters on the D-Line for them in Tyquan Lewis, Sam Hubbard, Jalyn Holmes, Nick Bosa, Michael Hill and Dre'Mont Jones... then they also have 3-4 talented back-up with Jonathan Cooper, Robert Landers, Tracy Sprinkle and Chase Young. Schiano to me is saying that he's never been able to potentially have a 7-10 man rotation on the D-Line without significant drop-off in performance.

Just clarifying OP's comment that Schiano was not claiming that they are the best individual D-Linemen he has ever coached because Gerald McCoy was vastly better than all of them. Schiano was just saying This was the best overall group he has ever had if you consider top-to-bottom depth.

Just like Hurst, no official publication (i.e. Phil Steele) recognizes Jalyn Holmes and Nick Bosa as official starters, but the coaching staff treats them like starters. Hubbard and Lewis are the official listed starters, but Bosa and Holmes played nearly as many snaps last season as the latter two and they are considered "co-starters" within the program.

Atlanta has 2 marquee games that weekend between 4 big programs, one being a top 5 matchup, the other being the first regular season football game in a brand new stadium.

Soooo...Bloomington?

I think it's cool since they're gonna be doing a real game, too, but man that's a weird game to pick. I haven't looked into the opening weekk schedule, but I can't really picture OSU Indiana being a good game.

Indiana is going to be garbage this year. Couple that with Kevin Wilson going for revenge and this game will be ugly. Will just fuel the OSU hype train after they run IU by 50+.

I think you are putting too much weight into seeing them get to play against Okorn, when Harbaugh used a more conservative playbook than Bo used to.

In what way were they pretty good?  Maybe in comparison to Rutgers and Purdue who were historically bad.  If their offense takes a step back, which is pretty much a lock, the defense will suffer.

Check the numbers! They were in the top 45 in total defense, top 25 in passing defense as well Last year and bring back most of their better players. Tom Allen came in and revamped the defense, which is why they decided to make him the HC. Their defense will be pretty good this season, you're jaded by the IU of the past.

There is an element for him here, final year possibly? If so, the guy deserves to be recognized, he is a fabric of IU and college football coast to coast.

Honestly I kind of forgot how Bad Corso has gotten the last few years. I love the guy but it's probably even a little past the time where he should've retired for good. Actually I don't even want to see him gone. He can still do his headgear picks, which are kind of dumb but I still like seeing them. He just isn't really able to do the quick speaking required for their game breakdown clips. It can be painful to watch. You can just tell his mouth can't quite keep up with his brain.

Maybe they are doing this so ESPN can lull people to sleep with some DeBord offense in preparation for a much more interesting game to be played later in the afternoon. It's the only reason that comes to mind - that, or because the opponent is Ohio State and let's just skip actually discussing Indiana football.

OSU is probably going to win by 50 Then again, they are infamous for playing down to their competition in the noncon from time to time so theres a sliver of hope for the Hoosiers
