The only key on my laptop that is a bit screwed up is the "S" key. I have to press it a little harder than the others.

That is a pretty funny typo though. I had not realized I did it until I saw your response.

Precisely. The Red River Shootout is always a noon game. Plus, the teams that were involved were both highly ranked. Sparty isn't that good this year, so there is no reason to go there.

I don't want them to do there anyway. That would mean they have some sort of relevancy, which they don't.

A presumably-LaMichael-James-less Oregon team is the only hurdle of any signifigance between Arizona State and an 11-1 entry into the Pac-12 title game. Heck, even if they lose, they're still the Pac-12 South champion. They could easily turn up in a non-Rose BCS Bowl (Fiesta vs Michigan is a REAL possibility).

If I recall, someone said that they started putting the screen behind the guys after an incident at MSU when someone threw a beer bottle at Chris Fowler. If this is true, I do not blame them  for never wanting to back to MSU.

Gameday already covered Michigan for the ND game. ESPN's political correctiveness forbids them from giving College Gameday preferential treatment to any team (except in the SEC). Not that I really give a hoot anyway. No one wants to see a bunch of Sparty fans burning couches on Gameday.

if you're local, or from Michigan or whatever, but being from Canada, Michigan vs. Notre Dame has always been ahead of MSU in my mind. Seems nationally, ND is bigger, but to Michiganders, MSU is more prevalent. I'd be curious to know if this is just me or do others not from Michigan think this way as well?

Living in the Chicago area the Michigan/ND rivalry has always been more important to me so it would be our #2 rivalry in my eyes. I agree though that if you are from Michigan then Sparty would be #2 because of similar reasons in that whatever the outcome is, you have to deal with the other fan base.. All the Chicago newspapers and ESPN Chicago covers ND so when you're not an ND fan it gets very annoying. I am sure it is this way in Michigan for the Michigan/MSU game, but when Michigan plays ND I have lots of people in my ears about the game so it makes me want to beat them even more. If we lose then I really hear it. Luckily though the last 3 years have been great as the last 5 out of 6 years have been great. Go Blue!

No, you are not alone. I grew up in the suburbs of Columbus, OH and I never even knew MSU was a rivalry game when I was growing up. I mean, I know it was a rivalry game because it was in-state, but New Mexico vs. New Mexico State is technically a rivalry game too. So...yeah. MSU was simply irrelevant in the scheme of things for nearly my entire life (39 y/o) and was, thus, unworthy of consideration as a true rival.

More important? Absolutely. Notre Dame is a comparable academic institution with a similarly storied football program, the second winningest program of all time, and the only football team that can challenge our world's largest alumni network with their world's largest group of inexplicably loyal fans.

More annoying? Certainly not. Michigan State has cornered the market on irritating fandom, and I think there's a consensus to that effect in the Big Ten.

Also my perspective is both (1) as a born-and-bred Michigander with plenty of spiteful friends whose ACT scores sent them to East Lansing, and (2) as someone who's lived out of state for the last little while and realized that a lot of people outside of Big Ten country are aware of Michigan's rivalries with TSIO and ND, but have basically no knowledge of MSU (in either a college football or academic context)

I definitely see ND as more important than Sparty. Most instate people probably don't agree with me, but nationally there are a lot of people who see Michigan and Notre Dame as the two most prestigious NCAA football programs.

Let's not get caught up in assigning rankings to our rivalries. I know rankings rule in college football, but I'm more of the opinion that all our rivalries are second to Ohio. Still important, but ultimately, whether we beat Sparty or the Domers, it's all going to be bittersweet if we don't beat the Bucks.

I'll weigh in.  I certainly consider ND a bigger rivalry than MSU.  We compete with ND for recruits a lot more than MSU and a lot more people nationally are watching that game.  If we lose to MSU, there's a good chance not a lot of people saw it.  UM-ND is always one of the biggest games of the day that a lot of people watch.  Also, traditionally the rivalry has been a lot closer with ND than with MSU.

My brother lives in Michigan and has a lot of friends who went to MSU, so he feels differently.  But his has everything to do with who he sees and whether he's doing the shit talking or getting it.  I live in a big city without many farms, so I don't see MSU grads/fans anywhere.

Arizona State would beat MSU on a neutral field 8 times out of ten. They should be undefeated. So I disagree with the OP's "MSU is a better team then Arizona state" argument.

I never considered the possibility of them coming to East Lansing, tbh. They weren't *reasonably* coming to do Gameday in the state of Michigan twice in a year.

Michigan-Michigan state does not have nationwide relevance.  It's also only our third-biggest rivalry.  Plus, they were already at one of our games this year, and they might be back in Ann Arbor for the Nebraska game, which might end up deciding the Legends Division championship.  Oregon has more recent national success, plus their home field is impressive, and East Lansing sucks.
