College Gameday headed to Eugene not East Lansing
College gameday will head to Eugene for the matchup between 9 Oregon and 22 Arizona State. A little bit surprising since MSU is a better team than ASU.

Lol at spartys national irrelevance
October 9th, 2011 at 1:59 PM ^
But they are recruiting nationally now!
October 9th, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
Oh is that why they hardly have an State of Michigan recruits?
October 9th, 2011 at 3:54 PM ^
clearly. why screw around with in-state talent when you're a POWERHOUSE on the national recruiting scene like msu is?
October 9th, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
I think Dantonio has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people across the country are starting to believe in him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Recruiting nationally is a good start.

I think Dantonio has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Michigan are starting to believe in him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan State jerseys in Michigan is a good start.

Aaaand that's how it's done, everybody - philclar wins the thread. :D
October 9th, 2011 at 1:34 PM ^
I don't see why they would go to Eat Lansing. It's a noon game and Sparty is irrelevant.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:36 PM ^
Locked. And now that funny mistyping is there for everyone to enjoy.
October 9th, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
The only key on my laptop that is a bit screwed up is the "S" key. I have to press it a little harder than the others.
That is a pretty funny typo though. I had not realized I did it until I saw your response.
October 9th, 2011 at 2:04 PM ^
You mean a noon game like how Texas-OU was a noon game? Gameday was there for that. I don't think the time slow matters as much as the teams involved. Eat Lansing doesn't seem like a cool place anyway.
October 9th, 2011 at 3:07 PM ^
October 9th, 2011 at 8:54 PM ^
Precisely. The Red River Shootout is always a noon game. Plus, the teams that were involved were both highly ranked. Sparty isn't that good this year, so there is no reason to go there.
I don't want them to do there anyway. That would mean they have some sort of relevancy, which they don't.
October 9th, 2011 at 5:01 PM ^
Interesting...

Make sure it looks all right before you dive in. Otherwise, you'll learn how STD's are transmitted.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:37 PM ^
There's no way anyone actually thought they would go to East Lansing, right?
October 9th, 2011 at 3:27 PM ^
I hear Herbie is still looking for that Cedar Village chick that said she was clean but gave him chlymidia on their last visit.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:37 PM ^
I doubted they would, but does anyone care about ASU Oregon either.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:40 PM ^
Vontaze Burfict versus an explosive offense is a pretty cool matchup.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:44 PM ^
A presumably-LaMichael-James-less Oregon team is the only hurdle of any signifigance between Arizona State and an 11-1 entry into the Pac-12 title game. Heck, even if they lose, they're still the Pac-12 South champion. They could easily turn up in a non-Rose BCS Bowl (Fiesta vs Michigan is a REAL possibility).
October 9th, 2011 at 1:40 PM ^
If I recall, someone said that they started putting the screen behind the guys after an incident at MSU when someone threw a beer bottle at Chris Fowler. If this is true, I do not blame them for never wanting to back to MSU.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:47 PM ^
Fowler? Really? Corso is the insufferable one.
October 9th, 2011 at 3:44 PM ^
It was probably a young Bauserman with an errant throw
October 9th, 2011 at 6:38 PM ^
The gameday set does resemble 9th row stadium bleachers.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:42 PM ^
Gameday already covered Michigan for the ND game. ESPN's political correctiveness forbids them from giving College Gameday preferential treatment to any team (except in the SEC). Not that I really give a hoot anyway. No one wants to see a bunch of Sparty fans burning couches on Gameday.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:46 PM ^
Ideally Gameday will cover Michigan's #1 rivalry on November 26, after covering our #2 rivalry on September 10. No need to cover #3.

if you're local, or from Michigan or whatever, but being from Canada, Michigan vs. Notre Dame has always been ahead of MSU in my mind. Seems nationally, ND is bigger, but to Michiganders, MSU is more prevalent. I'd be curious to know if this is just me or do others not from Michigan think this way as well?
October 9th, 2011 at 2:33 PM ^
Growing up closer to South Bend than A2 there were always more ND fans than Sparty fans and being in my mid-30's ND was still relevant so I look at ND as the bigger rival.
October 9th, 2011 at 3:21 PM ^
October 9th, 2011 at 8:59 PM ^
I say we should ALL think of Sparty as our third most important rival. Fuck them. They are don't deserve anymore attention than they already get.
October 9th, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
rivalry for sure. Dealing with ND fans before the week of the game is insufferable. It's been fun lately though, with all the wins we've had over them. Shuts them up quickly.
October 9th, 2011 at 5:05 PM ^
No, you are not alone. I grew up in the suburbs of Columbus, OH and I never even knew MSU was a rivalry game when I was growing up. I mean, I know it was a rivalry game because it was in-state, but New Mexico vs. New Mexico State is technically a rivalry game too. So...yeah. MSU was simply irrelevant in the scheme of things for nearly my entire life (39 y/o) and was, thus, unworthy of consideration as a true rival.
October 9th, 2011 at 5:33 PM ^
If you don't live in Michigan, or you are a general CFB fan, ND is a bigger rilvary.
October 9th, 2011 at 2:25 PM ^
More important? Absolutely. Notre Dame is a comparable academic institution with a similarly storied football program, the second winningest program of all time, and the only football team that can challenge our world's largest alumni network with their world's largest group of inexplicably loyal fans.
More annoying? Certainly not. Michigan State has cornered the market on irritating fandom, and I think there's a consensus to that effect in the Big Ten.
October 9th, 2011 at 2:28 PM ^
Also my perspective is both (1) as a born-and-bred Michigander with plenty of spiteful friends whose ACT scores sent them to East Lansing, and (2) as someone who's lived out of state for the last little while and realized that a lot of people outside of Big Ten country are aware of Michigan's rivalries with TSIO and ND, but have basically no knowledge of MSU (in either a college football or academic context)

Let's not get caught up in assigning rankings to our rivalries. I know rankings rule in college football, but I'm more of the opinion that all our rivalries are second to Ohio. Still important, but ultimately, whether we beat Sparty or the Domers, it's all going to be bittersweet if we don't beat the Bucks.
October 10th, 2011 at 12:01 AM ^
I'll weigh in. I certainly consider ND a bigger rivalry than MSU. We compete with ND for recruits a lot more than MSU and a lot more people nationally are watching that game. If we lose to MSU, there's a good chance not a lot of people saw it. UM-ND is always one of the biggest games of the day that a lot of people watch. Also, traditionally the rivalry has been a lot closer with ND than with MSU.
My brother lives in Michigan and has a lot of friends who went to MSU, so he feels differently. But his has everything to do with who he sees and whether he's doing the shit talking or getting it. I live in a big city without many farms, so I don't see MSU grads/fans anywhere.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:50 PM ^
They covered Oregon in the first week of the season already also.
October 9th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
hopefully, the result will be the same for the UofO, a lip-sided loss.

Good call, except for Oregon. I saw a stat earlier in the season that said Oregon was chosen like 4 times last year to win by Corso.
Yes, the Gameday crew covered WAY too many Oregon games last year.
October 11th, 2011 at 2:32 AM ^
Corso doesn't want to fuck with Phil Knight:

Arizona State would beat MSU on a neutral field 8 times out of ten. They should be undefeated. So I disagree with the OP's "MSU is a better team then Arizona state" argument.
I never considered the possibility of them coming to East Lansing, tbh. They weren't *reasonably* coming to do Gameday in the state of Michigan twice in a year.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:42 PM ^
I don't blame them. Who would want to go back to that shithole?
October 9th, 2011 at 1:47 PM ^
Michigan-Michigan state does not have nationwide relevance. It's also only our third-biggest rivalry. Plus, they were already at one of our games this year, and they might be back in Ann Arbor for the Nebraska game, which might end up deciding the Legends Division championship. Oregon has more recent national success, plus their home field is impressive, and East Lansing sucks.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:50 PM ^
Our third biggest rival? I would think its second. Beating ND is nice every year, but MSU means you have to deal with smack talk from them for 364 days.
October 9th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
Only if you live in Michigan. As someone who grew up in Indiana MSU is a DISTANT third in my eyes.
