College Gameday and Early Games Open Thread 10/08

Submitted by Jeff on

College Gameday is at the Red River Shootout this week.  Coming up after the next break they'll be talking about Michigan.

The early games are mostly lame except for the main game:

  • Oklahoma-Texas (ABC)
  • Minnesota at Purdue (ESPN)
  • Louisville at North Carolina (ESPN2)
  • Maryland at Georgia Tech (ESPNU)
  • Illinois at Indiana (BTN 2:30, so kind of a late afternoon game)

Exactly. Some of my non-UofM fans are getting riled up because "Michigan doesn't deserve to be ranked so high." I tell them that rankings (in the first half of a season) are what outsiders use to evaluate a team because they don't intimately know the team or the opponents they've faced (like we know Michigan). Let us play some stiff opponents, answer some questions and we'll see where the chips fall.

"Who should be ranked in front of them"? Rankings aren't a future assessment or prediction; they're a resume, up to that point. Lose some with others winning, and we'll go down. Win more with others losing, and we'll go up. Unless you're non-BCS conference, no on cares who you played. It didn't matter that FSU or USC were the only team in bad ACC or PAC-10 conferences, respectively. Just that they kept winning. That's how it works, whether it's good or bad.

There are some really crappy B1G games this afternoon.  Iowa-PSU and Minn-Purdue don't look like much fun, Ill-Ind doesn't look great either.  Wish the OSU and Michigan games weren't on at the same time.

Yeah, this is bullshit. On at essentially the same time: Michigan game, Tigers ALCS game, Red Wings game, and the OSU game. I mean these people scheduling these sporting events need to all sit down together and coordinate this out because channel flipping between these games in unacceptable.

I hate night games. It's one thing when you get to go to the game at the Big House and you're tailgating all day, but sitting on the couch nervously for 8 hours is not my cup of tea.

Whoever made the schedule for today is either on drugs, or incompetent, or both.  Our whole region is waiting for multiple games all starting in primetime...ridiculous.

I'm glad that the Red River Shootout is still in the Cotton Bowl and hasn't yet been moved to JerryWorld. Then again, I'm sure that's right around the corner.

The worst thing about living in Pittsburgh is we get all the random shitty Big East games like West Virginia - Connecticut instead of good games like Oklahoma - Texas.

Looks like I'll be watching the Georgia Tech - Maryland game. The triple option is the coolest offense in college football right now.

making me think our O and D performances last week were less "juggernaut-y".

Not that I expected any different from Minny today, (but was hoping a little.)

Minnesota will not win a game the rest of the year...just gave away a fumble on their own 15 while already being down 10-0 in the first.

I just feel pity for them.

Man, I was rooting for texas a few minutes ago because fozzy whittaker and malcolm brown are fun to watch, but then they ran an ad for the lhn and that just pissed me off for some reason...i hope that shit gets thrown off the air.

So Oklahoma is pretty damn good. Also with all these talented freshman and such playing this early on and playing fairly well (excluding this week so far) Texas is about to be scary good in a few years.
