all bcs teams roll tonight that's my take
Tennessee is not recruiting well just because they got 18 dudes
all bcs teams roll tonight that's my take
Happy first college football day!
Beer for everyoneeeee!
I've got no work, the gal is out of town for the weekend, and it is on like Donkey Kong.
Remove pants: Check
Wolf down bacon-wrapped hot dogs: Check
Crack open a High Life: Check
Now I just need the Rebels to pull the upset in a couple of hours.
Holy shit, man!
Don't you have enough money to buy beer that doesn't taste like the piss from someone who's just consumed a case of cheap beer? That shit's awful. Just as bad as Miller LITE.
I once resorted to drinking 40 oz. PBRs due to a shortage of funds. That was a shitty decision when I got up the next morning. For some reason I get a hangover off of cheap beer but not quality beer.
I don't know what urine tastes like. But if you can't enjoy the Champagne of Beers because the pricetag doesn't make you feel good enough about yourself, there is nothing I can do to help you.
Busch Light now has an ice cold easy indicator. I like it because it tells me when to chug to avoid that warmish swill at the end.
There's a lot more to craft beer than a bigger pricetag.
I've had and enjoyed a couple zillion different beers. I love them all. But if you can't enjoy a tasty, domestic classic (much less view it as the equivalent of pissing in your own mouth) there is something wrong on your end. Not the other way around.
Never said you couldn't; all I responded to was the one sentence in your comment.
I was responding to:
"Don't you have enough money to buy beer that doesn't taste like the piss from someone who's just consumed a case of cheap beer?"
So I may have been a little harsh in stating my case. We cool.
Haha good. Wouldn't want to start a fight with PurpleStuff two days before the opener.
Nobody wants to fight with me any more since I (still) think this team is going to be awesome this year and I like just about everybody on our coaching staff (though I'm a little pissed Hoke shaved the goatee).
I've lost my edge.
I hope that's not a metaphor after "remove pants". Since the wife isn't home.
The dirty bacon wrapped hot dog (sold every five feet as you leave the LA Coliseum by random illegal immigrants cooking on hibachi-like contraptions) is one of the USC traditions I have embraced wholeheartedly.
I add mayo (they will try to do this at the games but don't ever accept it because that mayo has been sitting on the hot grill after riding up from Guadalajara in some dude's truck for three days), mustard, and jalapenos (instead of the standard grilled bell pepper and onion).
I will be eating these, microwave burritos, cereal, and Eggos almost exclusively until the little lady returns.
Life is good.
If they sold it at a five star restaurant, it wouldn't be anywhere near as good.
Bacon makes everything better.
Through much experimentation I've learned the proper move is to grill both the bacon and the hot dog individually until they are almost done, then wrap the dog for the big finish.
If any of those Iron Chef guys can equal that deliciousness sans pork they will have my eternal gratitude.
I hope UNLV puts up at least a bit of a fight against Wisco.
Those Murray State blogs must be blowing up about now.
Wiscy will put up a fight against themselves. Kind of a little new wrinkle to the Badger's formula, might see a "what the f#%k" or two in the first half. They will pull away pretty quick though. They scored <80 points last year in a conference game. 80!!! Thems Kobe numbers.
It seems like every year Wisconsin has one of those shitty performance, down to the wire games (Iowa is kind of the same way) early in the non-conference season, no matter how good they end up at the end of the season.
Here's hoping it happens again tonight.
Not tonight. However, they have given up a decent amount of rushing yards to UNLV in the first half.
Um, we scored <80 in a bunch of conference games last year.
Does Murray State even have blogs?
The Carrier Dome right now... Should be interesting to see how Syracuse plays after last year's surprising season.
If for some reason GERG is lurking around there do us all a favor and punch him in the face.
Really! Where abouts do you live? I'm in penfield.
Louisville bringing out the fake punt against Murray State? Interesting.
And it's all for nothing.
That happens to me all the time in NCAA 12.
I feel for Louisville.
and here I thought I was the only one desperate enough to watch this game.
should've known better in this crowd.
I need footbaw. Now. Even if it is between a big east team and a 1-aa team.
Miss St. They sound like they want to make some noise this season.
Let's go Devils! 10:00pm on Fox Sports Pacific vs UC Davis.
Just moved into new apatment, find out cable package my roomate ordered does not have ESPNU.
I guess college football doesnt start for another hour and a half for me.
The games start at 8:00 as far as I am concerned. I need me some football, but there is no less compelling of a watch than Louisville football. The equivalent of Milwaukee Buck basketball.
I'm pumped, but just sayin, could the networks have given us a little better slate here? At least the last five years I could count on S. Carolina v. a non-patsy team. If your gonna have an opening night might as well do something tasty. Maybe even late night west coast tasty.
That being said, Wiscy v. UNLV is gonna seem like the Super Bowl to me when it comes on.
If you have comcast and your roomate not ordering the sports package was an oversight and not a budget concern, comcast can set you up instantly with a signal. Not sure how it technically works, but I did it last year after getting tired of my sports selection one saturday morning.
Im in Chicago with RCN...
You're not missing anything. I turned on Louisville/Murray State 30 minutes ago just because it's college football. But I'm already beyond bored.
I'm watching at justin.tv but looking for a better link.
Edit: link's actually pretty decent if you don't have 30 browser tabs open at once.
AHHH I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!!
In seeing how Russell Wilson does tonight for Wiscy. Anyone else?
yes. that and msu's offensive line will be my focus for the next 2 nights.
...the hype machine hasn't gone into hyper-drive...this kid has the skill set wisky truly could use this season.
I LOVE COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!!
First TD of the Season: 7-0 Louisville
Cartoons until 8 PM, then daddy gets to watch his show....for several days on various channels.
When all across the country high school teams will be playing.
I am in Moscow, Idaho for the BGSU-Idaho game that kicks off in two hours. My friends and I drove 32 hours straight from Chicago to get out here for my Bachelor party and we are having a blast! Go Falcons and Vandals!
Bachelor party in Idaho? Rock on, brother.
Have too many teeth?
you're in Idaho and on Mgoblog? The only thing that could take your party to some next level shit is if you and Tony Romo are playing hide and seek later.
It's finally that time of year when it takes me an entire hour to read through all of the college football news and michigan analysis of the day.
Let's go UNLV!!
Was hoping to watch the Toledo game on ESPN3, but it's blacked out because I'm in the area. Oh well, just have to watch the Lions' second stringers until the Wisconsin game.
In an offseason rife with scandal and conference drama, it's good to have games on the field again.
Enjoy your football day today
For fuck's sake, I don't even care to hear stupid ass comments about how Wisconsin is so awesome because of "Jump Around". Just play some fucking football already for. the. love.
Good! Central is having some problems. Suck it, Chips! Go Rockets.
Now let's see a B1G team.
when Toledo beat Central for the first time since 2004
Please don't talk about Toledo. Leaves a very foul taste in my mouth.
I feel like there has been a "Bell" on Toledo's defense since my Freshman year. And he was a Sr. then!
i didnt miss you but I like seeing you on my tv because of what it means. foooootballlllllllllllll
is Wiscy's QB? Well shit, didn't realize that. He is good.
Seriously... that's not proof. He is good, but that drive is not proof. Left side of the line is a tad weak, too.
Very athletic guy on an otherwise bad NC State team.
Well that was way too easy. With Wilson running the offense, look for wisconsin to hang 70 today.
What's the Wisconsin/UNLV spread? Wisconsin -99?
Give me UNLV for $100.00
But all kidding aside, Bielema is a douche. If he thought he could get 100, he would.
With a nice looking punt there...
Do online streams to these things even exist anymore? A working link would be superb.
Noticed that shortly after I asked, thank you!
We're out of Vitamin Water and Diet Coke, so even though I have to be at work super early tomorrow I've swithed to alcohol. I may or may not be on my second Summer Shandy and third Tanqueray and Sierra Mist. Happy Return of College Football, y'all!
thinking of a shandy is making me sick, poping a stout in your honor
Wow...this UNLV defense is bad. Wilson has way to much time on his 2 passes
wow, what a miss from WIlson
I am also glad we miss them on the schedule. UNLV is bad, but they aren't Delaware St. bad. The fact that Wisconsin is able to run all over them like this certainly shows how dominant they are.
320+? Jake Long isn't even listed above 320 right now. The Bears have one player listed above 320, the Saints have three. 3/4 are above 30.
This game is not going to end well for UNLV.
we don't have to play Wisconsin?
we don't get to play UNLV?
Well not in the regular season, we will meet them in the conference championship
This is going to be an UGLY game if you're a Rebels fan.
What magic cupboard is Wisconsin using that gives them an endless supply of top-notch tailbacks? Their top RB Clay leaves school early and there are two great backs right behind him. Meanwhile, Michigan's been searching for Mike Hart's replacement for 4 years.
Let me go all Brady Hoke here . . . great O Lines make great tailbacks. They make it easy to recruit them, and they make them play well once they show up.
It will work for us too.
Clay - 1,012 yards, 5.4 YPC
White - 1,052 yards, 6.7 YPC (!!!)
Ball - 996 yards, 6.1 YPC
So really... You could argue that Clay was their 3rd-best back last year.
1st down: Pass for the hell of it, overthrow a wide open dude by a mile.
2nd down: Run for 10+ yards
Wilson does not look good. Consistently missing wide open men.
The running game however will likely pick up where it did last year.
Timing will take more than one game. He will be fine
Agreed, most of his incomplete passes were well away from defenders. That beats INTs. Wiscy looked very good last night. Only issue will be the rush defense. They looked a bit soft up there. Good B1G teams may easily run it down their throat.
I like Wiscy's inability to contain a mobile QB. Definitely want to see that continue.
Especially when we play them in the championship game!
Pretty pumped we don't have to play Wisconsin. Hope they win all their games against our division and help us out a bit.
Granted it's the Wiscy Oline it really looks like UNLV is already throwing in the towel, I mean how in the hell do you stand there as an LB and allow a 320lb man to just run at you.
Did you not read the break down on our LB's last year? That was their specialty.
This Wisconsin offense sure is fun to waZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz...
Manball is boring as fuck. Sorry, it is. It's not entertaining at all. Run middle. Run middle. Run middle. Run middle. Run right. Punt.
They seem to be doing just fine with scoring the football.
Do you write commercials for Audi?
Yeah they haven't punted yet...good call on that one.
They're playing UNLV!!!!!
I can't even type anything as stupid as this comment. I was trying to think of a similar comment to make fun of you and all I could think of was Corky from Life Goes On.
Dude, Corky is my idol. I have a poster of him in a speedo in my room right now. It's pretty rare and very glossy.
Making Memphis look like Michigan in the Gator, if you find that more exciting.
How does the fact that their punter didn't see the field until well ino the 3rd quarter with almost 50 points on the board fit into your little summary? You know what I found exciting? Rich Rodriguez's spread averaging about 5 points in the first half of every game against a bowl team last year. What fun!!
You're embarrassing yourself.
Watching these games tonight is getting me so pumped. I think I may have to call in sick tomorrow because I don't think I'll even be able to get any work done.
/Note, stepping onto soapbox
There are a couple of teams in CFB that I can't stand, but the only team I truly hate to watch play is Wisconsin. I hate the fact that they bludgeon teams with the same couple of running plays, act as if they are world beaters because they beat up on the UNLV's and IU's of the world, and have a tendency of taking decently in-shape freshmen RBs and turn them into fat RBs as seniors. Announcers love to talk up their line and how they are, but they always strike me as a one-trick pony; really good if they have the size and talent advantage, but no extra gear when they face an elite defense or at least one that they are not able to bulldoze for 4 quarters. They always lost to UM for this reason, and regardless of how they look against a 2-11 team they will always be a second-rate program in my eyes.
I know people dream of the day UM "returns" to the MANBALL type employed by Wiscy, but the UM I remember under Carr was so much more, with so much more well-rounded talent and a penchant for being able to beat teams multiple ways. That may mean having "smaller" OL than Wiscy, but the day UM trots out a bunch of fat guys and try to push good teams around for 4 quarters will be a long day for me as a fan.
/steps off soapbox, will hang up and listen
Switched from Wisky to Syracuse/WF on ESPN3. I'm not doing much better. It's closer, but now there's NO offense.
Bank it :)
Is it offense you want? Well it looks like it is being delivered.
I marked you trolling because there is no "fucking moron" moderation button. Shoot. I will have to bitch to Brian about it in a thread soon. Oh and complain about other people abusing the moderation.
Youve got to get up early tomorrow anyway; mow some lawns, check your 8th grade homeroom schedule, etc.
Your Dad's also going to be really pissed when he finds out you snuck some of his Bud lights and started using the 'puter again after bedtime.
Call it a night.
kind of sucks.
is looking rough.
Is having a great game against an overmatched defense. Still, he's down almost 30 pounds and it shows. He's going to be impressive this year.
It's 27-0 before half. Who cares how that happens?
While both of you are arguing this poorly (and rehashing points made far, far too often here over the last 3 years), Wisconsin runs the most vanilla "manball" offense out. There is no reason to believe that a team with that style could win a championship in 2012 or beyond.
That's not the pro style that USC runs or even close to the one Lloyd ran at Michigan. OSU, while coached by a man called a dinosaur by critics of his offense, never ran an offense as boring as Wisky's. I'm 25, and am certain I'll go to my grave before Wisconsin wins a national championship. Thinking they are boring and doomed to lose to every good team they play is not the same as thinking SPREAD>ALL.
Hey, don't leave Craig James out of this. Just an absolute waste of space in the booth.
I would love to be this bad and still keep my job
So far not too impressed with Russell as QB. Missed 3 or 4 WIDE OPEN deep passes earlier.
6/9, 154 yards, 1 TD and one 46 yard rush for a TD for a guy who has been playing with his team for one month. yawn
and the Wisky offense looks good. But UNLV has moved the ball on the ground surprisingly well. Even more so given their QB clearly can't throw downfield
UNLV could have made this a much closer game than it looks. They probably should have at least 10 points, maybe 14. Wiscy looks good offensively using their bread-and-butter stuff, but Wilson has been "meh" and honestly doesn't seema great fit for the typical Wiscy offense. He needs to be able to run around and (to steal a horrible cliche) "make plays", and Wiscy's offense definitely tries to limit that spontaneity. Should be interesting to see if he becomes a more prototypical passer or Wiscy opens up the offense a bit.
"Wilson has been "meh" and honestly doesn't seema great fit for the typical Wiscy offense."
Umm he seems to be doing okay. I think one half of the first game of the season against an overmatched opponent might be too soon to decide that he doesn't fit the offense, no?
As of this post he's 7/10 for 190some yards. Plus that sweet TD run.
I've seen him miss some rather open receivers, and while he definitely has put up some nice stats (especially that run), I'm not sure they are in the flow of the typical Wiscy offense. He looks like the guy he was at NC State - a dynamic playmaker who can make the tough throw or run when the play breaks down. That worked with the Wolfpack because they were usually overmatched. Heck, that long run was the type of run he should make, but name me the last Wiscy QB who consistently ran the ball? Maybe Sorgi, and he wasn't close to Russell as an athlete.
But with Wiscy, they want their QBs to throw the ball conservatively and hand off whenever possible. And that style works against the mediocre teams that they tend to face in the OOC schedule. But when they have to line up against a good defense that doesn't allow White and Ball to run wild, will Wilson be able to make the types of safe-but-solid throws that Tolzien gave them last year? I'm not sure, and that's why I'm not sold on them being the B1G champions. They have a very good team, but for all that Russell brings as an elite athlete I'm not sure he is a good fit for Wiscy. Look at all the trouble Pryor had at OSU being "free" in their offense (and I know he won a bunch), and that was with a couple of years practice. With about a month of legit work, I'm dubious about Russell being a cogent part of this offense.
for as long as they keep the Wisky first string D out there. Maybe their LBs aren't that great in the middle, or maybe they're just having a hard time with the pistol. But Borland hasn't looked great.
Their O looks fantastic, but again UNLV is awful
can someone hook me up with a non espn3 stream of wisconsion please? espn3 won't work with my internet provider for some reason.
google sajaa sports. i don't want to get brian in trouble with links
Hyping that block from the Wisconsin center, and then a replay he pretty much blocked a falling guy in the back.
The reciever had a very key block on that play that allowed the QB to get down the sideline.
This may be the most boring opening night of college football...ever.
It must be. The only game within one score is Kentucky WKU, and I really have no interest in that one. Hopefully TCU-Baylor/YSU-little bro makes up for it tomorrow
I was so excited to get home and finally watch college football and... no game on TV worth following closer than background noise within an hour.
Ryan Mallet is in right now for the Patriots vs. the Giants...taking his lumps but that is to be expected...should be interesting to see how things go for him
Well at least we don't play Wisconsin in the regular season.
I agree with you. But that fact still kind of depresses me that we're at this point. This is a team we owned for close to a century. And even when Alvarez brought the program up and took them to Rose Bowl's, they still couldn't beat us.
Now they're putting up great seasons year after year and it kills me because Bielema is such a jackass.
- hideously boring offense
- keeping in starters well into the second half with a 30+ point lead
- taking a shot at the most humble player in college football by saying he would "never recruit a guy like Denard Robinson"
Up by 41 points in 3rd quarter...
Keeps starters in and throws play action pass on 1st down
It boggles my mind. I won't be surprised if he goes for two and tries an onside kick.
up 48 territory. If the starters stay in after this I don't even know what to say.
Bielma is quickly gaining Bobby Bowden status with me... (For the record, that is not a compliment.)
It's 44-3 and Wisconsin still has their starters playing. Bielema has no class.
For those of you looking for an actual game to watch, tune in to Cuse-Wake on ESPN 3. While it may not be the most exciting game ever, it is a 20-14 game late in the 3rd, and it isn't as ugly as anything else on right now.
Brady Hoke and al Borges are watching Wisconsin together and drooooling over the MANBALL. Badgers look good; assume this is how they want Michigan to look as soon as possible.
meh, Borges has always had a much more complex passing game. I'm pretty sure they'd like us to match Wisco phisically, but I bet we look quite a bit different.
any of the top 75 or so teams could come in and run up the score using Wisconsin's offense against UNLV, right? UNLV is simply terrible. I seriously doubt any coach is watching Wisconsin's performance in awe right now.
I really don't understand everyone's obsession with MANBALL. Bo ran a west coast offense.
You get my expectations up, and then break my heart all over again. I feel like I'm back in college.
I'm surprised. As a fellow browns fan, I would have thought you'd be used to this by now.
and servicable backup QBs! What could possibly go wrong!?
How are they only down by 12? Schaefer's D is getting carved up tonight.
Look at the t.o.p. statistics. Wisconsin's offense is not CONTROLLING THE BALL and KEEPING THEIR DEFENSE OF THE FIELD!!!
double post. sorry.
Not sure what your point is. How does ball control factor into a game when you're up by 5+ touchdowns? If anything this is an argument against Wiscy. They should be running the clock down.
Wisconsin (for no good reason other than I hate Beilema)
90% of Non-conference games (I get excited for football season and then have to watch a game like Wisconsin/UNLV.
Cam Newton - the Panthers have looked terrible all preseason
I used to like Wiscy when Alvarez was the HC. Now I have to reconsider my whole view of that program. Kind of like I have to decide what to do with my White Stripes albums after the whole ICP thing. I mean, Alvarez hired that douche!
He's got no class. Good job beating UNLV by 4,000 points. Nice work. You paid then several hundred thousand to come to Madison and then you embarrass then. Congrats on being an a--hole.
Bielma must have a 1:1 ratio of points scored to $$$ paid to all non-conference opponents.
cuse gets big pick inside the wake 40 and is driving.
Tie Game in Syracuse, 29-29, 7 to go. An actual close game.
talking about this saturday's game on espn now, and cuse just intercepted a pass.
I also hate watching TV with commercials.
I might have to just tune in Kentucky v. Western Kentucky...
This Kentucky/WKU game is actually pretty good (ESPNU)... Lots of defense which I thoroughly enjoy watching.
This game is keeping me up. The two teams seem to be mistake prone with pretty weak offenses. Let's go WKU!
Syracuse 36, Wake Forest 29, Final
Wow, what a comeback, but holy shit did we suck in the first half.
Now let's Go Blue on Saturday!
They just couldn't finish with it. When Wisky comes up against a reasonably sized team with a mobile QB, I think Bilema is gonna get smoked. Asshat.
but UNLV did seem to run on them fairly consistent
Still, don't see anyone beating them, look really strong, balanced, upper classman led team
That Western Kentucky interception was insane.
Could you guys whine anymore about the score?? It was 51-17. Wisconsin passed the ball 15 times the whole freaking game! Geeze....have we all gone this soft....
Its simple sportsmanship, when playing a horrible team such as UNLV most people with an once of sportmanship get to a comfortable lead. Say 30 points then your put in 2nd string, if the continue to pump out points put in 3rd string. This actually accomplish a couple of things:
1. You don't look like an asshat for emberassing an inferior team
2. its an excellent scrimage for your 2nd and 3rd strings
