I was surprised to see that this wasn't up yet.
UCF at (14) Ohio State
Penn State at Virginia
and Auburn at Mississippi State
Not the most exciting slate, but thoughts on Gameday/ the games?
I'm expanding beyond the noon games with this disturbing fact: Every single ranked team in college football plays an unranked team today.
As far as a full day of football, today is going to be pretty dull. I'm glad I'll be in Ann Arbor so I won't have to witness most of these snoozers.
actually isn't so bad. There are seven teams playing BCS conference/ND teams today, and while none of them are marquee games, a lot of them should be compeitive.
Preseason rankings are pretty useless, though. Mizzou-Georgia and A&M-Florida should be good games. Hoping the new guys come in and show that the SEC isn't as tough as it thinks it is.
Mizzou +2 at home with UGA down 4 defensive starters upset special this week. UGA also looked meh against a weak Buffalo squad last week.
My best friend is in Columbus with his Buckeye girlfriend. It would be hilarious if his first game down there was a loss to UCF.
Also, I don't know if I want the style points for the Big Ten going to 1-0 against the ACC or to see a BSD meltdown more. Right now I'm leaning toward the latter, although either would be a good outcome.
UCF will definitely be a big step up in competition for the Buckeyes compared to who they played last week, so it's entirely possible. Although, Miller seems to have improved vastly with his throwing so they could maul UCF too.
And so far, the Big 10 (besides Penn State) has lost only 1 game, yet already media experts are saying that the Big 10 might be the worst conference in college football. I think the only way we can really get them to shut up is by every team winning every game, no excuses, so Penn State really has to rally in my opinion.
56 against a MAC team last week and likely can't play post-season this year?
It seemed like that flag was in every shot. Whoever was holding that deserves a beer.
Did Chris Fowler just say, "Kiffing fuckin' up the passing game...?"
Go UCF and Kansas State!
picking up from last year's style of play, almost 7 minutes on that drive and up 7-0
Is there any benefit to us if one wins as opposed to the other? I assume not since we play both but any thoughts? On balance I am rooting for purdue. A ND loss under Kelly always has the potential to start a nose dive.
If, somehow, ND manages to win these next two weeks they will somehow be a top five team the week we play them. I don't think they're very good, but I would love to see a win against a way overrated ND team.
OTOH, to hell with Notre Dame. I can't bring myself to root for them, ever, even though Danny Hope is probably even more insufferable than Brian Kelly.
We are in a stiff competition with them for highest winning percentage of all time. There are only a few games that seperate us. Always root against Notre Dame.
We get a lot of mileage out of "Winningest program of all time" for both number of wins and winning percentage.
Default: Root against ND. Always.
Why is Jeff Van Gundy doign this?
if it is possible to stream an ABC HD feed over a PS3? I don't have my normal cable box at the moment and I'd like a way to see the game in HD. My connection should be good enough to handle the size of an HD stream.
Mississippi St. looks like they might actually have a decent offence for an SEC team. Of course they stalled in the red zone and missed a field goal, but I think they deserve a win over Auburn after that debacle last year. Those stripes down their sleeves, though, look awful.
Relating to my comments about the validity and reason for college sports, Mississippi State might be an example of college athletics' value. I don't know diddly about that school besides the fact that they're named the Bulldogs and they occasionally upset someone in the SEC. I don't think I've ever met anyone who went to Mississippi State, is a fan, or has ever seen any sort of research from the institution.
It does worry me that they look like a solid team, i.e. a bottom dweller SEC team is still able to acquire top rate talent simply due to location and conference affiliation.
I recently moved down to Huntsvill , AL for an engineering job. So I see a decent amount of Miss State grads (in fact my boss is one). As I understand, they are none of the best engineering schools in the SEC, but still not at the level of Michigan, Purdue, or other Big 10 schools.
Auburn's defense looks worse than Michigan 2010. Worse than swiss cheese.
Minnesota gets a safety off of a dropped snap in the endzone. I can't help but root for these guys, especially with Kill as coach. They play hard week in and week out and you just feel good when they get a win.. even against Baby Seal New Hampshire.
Miller just ran it for a 37 yard TD.
Ohio's "Quick Cal" is pretty damn corny.
Penn St. Lining it up to go for it on 4th down for the second time this drive.
Penn State v Virginia looks like the only noon game worth watching, here. Don't really care to watch the buckeye faithful freaking out about beating yet another cupcake, even Minnesota is tearing up their charity game at home.
Penn St goes for it on 4th down and gets it twice on their opening drive. And they haven't even reached the 40 yet.
OK, now they have.
These helmet rules are asinine.
I have a feeling that rule will be repealed in the offseason. In other news, PSU up 7-0 over UVA
I'm not too familiar with what's causing them to come off (design, not fastened correctly, players are now gunning to get others helmets off), but if it's as simple as being too loose or something, the coaches are going to adjust that very quickly.
I disagree. Many of these helmets come off (and have in the past, much of whythe rule was put in place) because the playes don't strap them on tight enough. Yes, every once in a while one will come off accidentally and yea, that sucks. But NFL and these college players are lazy about strapping them on. This rule is helping fix the players lax stance on putting the things on properly.
Note: And if the helmet does come off accidentally, via a penalty and one of the only ways they should be coming off in the first place, the player does not have to come off the field for a play.
Oh, this is garbage, is anyone watching the PSU-UVa game? A player on UVa lost his cap, continued to play, and essentially fell on top of the pile. FIFTEEN YARD PENALTY - PERSONAL FOUL... on him! Roger Goodell's NFL rules are spreading...
Penn State looks terrible. Better than last week at least.
I like this rule, the players just need to get used to the change and stay out of the play if that happens. On the other hand, I can't stand the rule that a player needs to leave the game for a play if their helmet comes off, that's just plain stupid.
Ohio State goes for it on 4th and one on their own side of the field and gets SHUT DOWN
Well, they made it look really hard, but PSU took almost 7 minutes off the clock and got a TD on 3rd and goal. 7-0 PSU.
Plz keep running Miller over and over. Kthx
Collin Klein runs it in for his second TD of the first quarter. K State is taking it to Miami early 14-0
ball possession and eating the clock, that's their style. Maybe we'll be treated to another year of Miami being unrated
LETS GO UCF!
It is indeed a new era -- both Penn State and Ohio State, formerly reliable puntosaur squads, have gone for it on 4th on their own side of the 50 already in the first quarter.
PI call on Ohio. Trick play almost worked for a TD, Ohio interferes in the endzone.
Another game between two known teams that hasn't been mentioned yet: KSU has just taken a two TD lead over Miami (YTM). The game is on FX.
Also, Randy Edsall continues his quest to be the first coach to get fired in less than two years without getting in off-field problems over on ESPNU. Maryland has at least managed to score today. 3-3 with Temple.
Cats look great
Buckeye D doesn't seem too much improved from week 1.
This Auburn-Miss St game might wind up being lower scoring than their famous 3-2 game a few years ago.
Unsurprisingly, the gophers are stuggling again...currently up 9-7
It's too bad they won last week. "Nittany Lion Quest" just doesn't have the same ring as "Gopher Quest."
NH just scored on MInny. 9-7 Gophers.
EDIT: great minds think alike
That was fast. OK. 16-7 Gophers.
This raises the question: Who in Minnesota thought it was a good idea to fire Glen Mason??
Also, TD Minny. Gray pretty much caught the snap and ran straight ahead untouched for a long ways.
UCF about to punch one in, hopefully, to tie the game at 10. A nice 48 yard run to set up the scoring opporunity...
Are there two Michigan ones at a game? That guy looks awesome if you ask me?
That is the dumbest thing I have ever scene. Why do all these OSU people feel the need to dress like idiots... Oh wait they are idiots.
I've seen three dudes making out. That was a lot gayer than a bunch of Ohio fans making fools of themselves.
do you realize what you say? Knock it off.
UCF ties it up 10-10 with Urban Meyer's Buckeyes. Go Knights!
Storm Johnson is one hell of a player. Total BS late hit call right there
I wonder how it'll take for Meyer to realize that Miller won't be able to take nearly the amount of punishment that Tebow could handle.
That wasn't a penalty on UCF...Guy was just trying to knock him out of bounds before he got to the first down.
Ohio has gotten bailed out on a couple of questionable calls so far in this game...
Fumble, UCF ball!
Personal foul called on UCF for hitting Miller as he was running up the sideline. He was NOT out of bounds. Weak call to protect the Buckeyes, I would expect nothing less at an Ohio State home game. Terrible call. His helmet came off and he had to sit out a play (Miller). Ohio State fumbles! UCF ball! The Horseshoe is silent.
Aaaaaaaaand Boren fumbles the ball. Couldn't have happened to a shittier family
That Braxton penalty is Bullsh*t, I'm sorry he was still in bounds and was capable of extending the ball out for the 1st down if he so inclined. The hit disallowed that, and legally.
He did get shook up, and FUMBLLLLLEEEE...UCF ball at midfield.
Wow OSU pick.
UCF why must you toy with our emotions like that?
If they only had a kicker!
haha stupid Boren
Carlos Hyde is hurt for OSU. Looks like we will see some Brionte Dunn.
He is injured and will not be playing for the rest of the game. Hopefully this means UCF and focus directly on Miller.
Mcgloin went straight to the locker room. Not good.
Devin Smith is a turncoat. He had 4 yards on 32 attempts last week for us, and now he's catching passes for OSU? What gives?
Musberger kept calling Vincent Smith "Devin" for some reason. It's been a joke all week.
Ah gotcha, I was listening to the radio instead of Musberger for obvious reasons
During Alabama game, Vincent Smith was called, "Devin Smith" a good amount. It added to the hilarity of us getting decimated.
Flipped over to the Ohio game since Temple is currently looking so brutal...Ohio fans must be apoplectic
(Typed too soon...dammit.)
3 and 16 for OSU and of course UCF gives up 24 on a Miller run....
Keep taking big hits
Did anyone not know that Miller would run that ball?! Holy crap it's the only play OSU ever does on 3rd and long when they are in FG range.
Urban employing the Run Denard offense with Barxton Miller.
he will get hurt at this rate of carries.
Miller is taking a beating out there, keep running him Urbs!
Miller easily runs it in from 6 yards out..
Wes (sometime M recruiting target) Brown looks pretty good in the Maryland v. Temple game.
Looking at the stats it seems that Diggs has played prettty well too, how does he look?
is giving Miller's throwing ability a little to much respect.
McGloin looks injured, hit his elbow on the helmet of a UVa defender. Might actually be better for PSU to lose him...
With Bolden gone, does anyone even have an idea who PSU's backup QB is?
Edit: looks like it's somebody named Bench who just had a receiver drop a TD
Ugh, mark may and Lou Holtz, throw drew sharp in there and you have a perfect storm of derp.
you throw him in there with Thlobberin Lou and all bets are off.
This PSU freshman QB has moxie
Is he a gunslinger too... like McGloin?
New PSU QB Bench looks good. Had a nice tough run, then pump faked and threw a tight spiral into the endzone which went through the receivers hands. He and the coaching staff messed up the end of the half, as he completed a pass inbounds with about 15 seconds to go and then the staff sent on the kicking team with no timeouts. Really moronic.
to do some pretty dumb stuff over there in Happy Valley.
EMU back to being, well, EMU. Down 10-0 at home to FCS Illinois State with Illinois State inside EMU's 20.
Thank God that UPS logistics commercial they are showing for all these games is not Kordell Stewert in the Big House. I would cringe everytime I see it.
I hadn't even thought of that. I was just annoyed that we had to watch this play in yet another commercial, but now I realize it could have been much, much worse.
Jesus....Galloway should never do another buckeye game or even a college football game in general. He is just bad. Heck, even Mowins sounds 100x's better than Joey.
Also he told me urban made Miller a threat on the ground this year because I guess he wasn't a threat on the feet last year.
He was definitely a threat on the feet last year.
EMU stuffs Illinois State on 4 &1 then goes 84 yards for touchdown. ISU 10 EMU 7.
What happened to the kid from Tulane? Just tuned into that game and hear something about cpr.
Virginia scores to take the lead. Can PSU score again? They sure as hell can't hit a field goal.
PSU looks like they are out of gas already. This is where the lack of depth really starts to hurt and will only get worse over the next four years.
Looked like a helmet/helmet hit with his own teammate ontop of a pile. Said he stopped breathing but was recusitated. Eeek.
True freshman for PSU watch out.
Miss St looking good. I know they creamed us a couple years ago, but I have always been able to stand them more than most other SEC schools.
Defense is having a bad time after getting the lead. McGloin on Heisman watch list.
damn...if UCF could get any kind of stop they would be in this game right now.
Touchdown UCF! Borges has to be licking his chops looking at that Ohio defense
Sadly...they are probably saying the same about our D as well. Could be another shoot out this season.
Holy balls that PSU kicker is bad. PSU is 2008 Michigan, but with a good defense.
Penn State has the best FG kicker ever.
PSU kicker needs to think brunettes.
Wow PSU with 3 drives over 10 plays and only 7 to show for it after their kicker shanked another chip shot.
I've got to imagine that the players who transfered from PSU aren't looked at too fondly by those who stayed, especially Fera. He'd probably get a lot more play time at PSU considering they can't get into the endzone and will have to punt a ton.
I'd also imagine that those who left for greener pastures aren't thinking twice about their decisions either.
Fera transferred to Texas to be closer to his mother (I believe) who is quite ill. Not a football decision as much as it was a family decision.
Wow.....the Miss St bulldog cheerleaders are top notch.
If there is one thing that the South does right, it's provide quality coeds.
Yikes, scary moment in the Tulane-Tulsa Game. Kid stopped breathing on the field.
Penn state misses 3 field goals now.
Arm punt by Miller, big pick for UCF!
Miller picked off on an awful throw and now UCF has a chance to make this game realy interestering in the 4th.
To the UCF corner
Braxton looking good. Hopefully Denard looks better today.
And PSU gives up a first down on 3rd and 20. The TE found a seam behind the linebacker. It's going to be a long year in Happy Valley.
Omg that was the most badass thing I've seen all game. Epic UCF OL push.
EMU leading 14-10 at halfttime. TV does not show the stands because the camera all face the visitor side of stadium. The visitor side only has a few hundred people in stands.
Virginia fumbled on the next play, but PSU is going backwards because obviously.
Two OSU starters with injuries today...yikes
boy Miller is taking a beating today
Not like UCF has been dominated by Ohio's vaunted defense today...
TD PSU McGloin throws a long TD pass to Robinson.
McGloin almost missed a wide open receiver in the end zone. TD PSU. 14-10.
Looks like the receiver about knocked himself out making that catch. PSU should go for 2 since they clearly cannot kick.
BLOCKED PAT! Should have gone for 2. Their kicking team has no business ever being on the field.
I gave the kicker too much credit. Somehow. 13-10 PSU.
PSU kicking woes continue as the XP is blocked
Michigan Kicking game 2008 > Penn St. Kicking Game 2012
Unreal. How can any team miss this many kicks in one game?
Damn, that Penn State kicker just can't win today. Blocked extra point!
How the hell is that an intentional grounding on UCF??
Safe to say that The Auburn run of 1 yr under Chizik is about done. Not sure without Malzahn that Chizik will have much more success.
Saw this on twitter earlier today. Chizik win % with Cam Newton 100%. Chizik win % without Cam... 41%.
Temple coming back vs. Maryland
Auburn is getting schooled by Mississippi State. What happened to their top recruiting, anyways?
Announcers just missed a golden opportunity to bring up UM-PSU 2005. Come on, Patrick.
Fumble by Virginia, PSU has a chance to put this away.
PSU going for it on 4th and 7 at the 14 because their kicking is that awful. Burning a time out first, though.
PSU wisely choosing to go for it on 4th and 7... check that. After timeout they decide to try it again and the blind squirrel finds a nut!
ESPN Announcers: Our constant pandering to the SEC hasn't resulted in them being among the most popular teams? WE MUST TRY HARDER!
They sent the kicker out after the TO and he nailed it. Good for him. Virginia can still take the lead with a TD, though.
Wow K State took Miami to the woodshed, 52-13.
Wow. Virginia still in this.
Virginia picks up about 25 on a screen and is now inside the PSU 10.
TD Virginia 16-16 with the XP pending.
Heartbreak for PSU. No Manningham play but with this PSU offense it might as well be the last play of the game.
Illinois State has moved the ball easily after halftime. ISU 24 -14 end of third quarter.
PSU kicker warming up in case they get in FG range... Could he be their Phil Brabbs?
Wow...what is PSU doing..
NOT the guy you want the game hanging on.
poor kid, hard not to feel bad for him there.
They miss Fera, big time.
It's understandable to give the kid a shot at redemption, but don't they have any other kickers on the roster?
I feel really bad for Ficken. Wow.
Illinois State scores a TD with 1 minute left in game. ISU 31-14 final. Eastern is going to start season 0-4. EMU next 2 games are Purdue and Michigan State.
