We have Tennessee vs. NC state going on in a couple minutes, and Little Brother vs. The Smurfs in about half an hour. Talk about them here.
Both games should be on firstrowsports.eu for those who will inevitably ask where to stream these games.
Lets go NC State and Boise State!!!
that Andrew Maxwell plays like this against us.
That was the worst throw I've seen ever!
Let's go broncos kick spar-ties ass for all of us
My soon to be 3 year old son saw the blue BSU helmets and yelled "Go BLUE!!!"
Close enough, right? Also, everyone in his immediate family are Buckeye fans, sans dad. Kid makes me proud. Onions...
It sounds like you've got him headed down the right path.
Boise State will beat MSU even with four suspended players.
Mark May picked Michigan to lose 4 games. In other news, fuck Mark May.
I count one team on the schedule that maybe has better talent and we'll see how we stack up with them tomorrow. Did Brian Kelly buy some Denard repellant? Did Taylor Martinez have his arm replaced? Is Air Force allowed to bring actual fighter planes on the field?
Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, MSU, and Nebraska are all pretty losable, and all of them are either on the road or at a neutral site. I don't think we'll lose four of those five, but it's not unthinkable.
Sparty is at home
still will be closer than we want with their defense
a one score last minute win is what I want, and have come to expect.
Notre Dame, OSU, and Nebraska are not good football teams. They weren't last year, and I don't see what changes make them awesome this year. MSU will be anywhere from slightly worse to considerably worse than last year and we play them at home. Bama is in the same boat, despite the media telling itself that they just reload (as if repeating it makes it true).
We were so close to losing to Notre Dame last year. I know we got a lot better, but they're not a bad team. OSU will be a good football team, especially at the end of the season. They have too many good athletes on both sides of the ball to not be. Nebraska should improve defensively. If they don't, I'll be right with you.
MSU could be worse, depending on their passing game. We'll see tonight.
I don't think any of those teams are bad teams. However, the way I see it, we had 4 tough games last season, and we won 3 of them (4 of 5 if you include the bowl). So Mr. Juggegrnaut, what has changed?
I could see us losing a game or two, but I just don't see us losing 3 of these games. I think that we're between a 9-3 and 11-1 team. Four losses though? It seems very unlikely.
Stephen Hopkins started at RB (Fitz didn't play), we had 7 points going into the 4th quarter, and pretty much all the awkwardness of an offensive transition was crammed into the beginning of that game. We did just about everything wrong for 3 quarters on both sides of the ball, turned it on and still won thanks to Denard and the Irish allergy to winning.
Don't see them really hanging with this year's team at all for a lot of the reasons mentioned.
I'm going to go ahead and predict a Sparty loss. From coaches to players, these guys seem to be feeling a little too good about themselves, with the media priming that pump. When I hear their players talking about national championships, I know they've jumped ahead.
And again, Boise is a team that plays smart and physical, and Petersen can take advantage of the Sparty D's hyper-aggressive tendencies, if anyone can. He's had a whole offseason to study them.
Mark May and Lou Holtz are idiots.
Yes they are
Yeah, they really are.
Just saw a quickie segment on the game tomorrow from the game day crew in Dallas and there was a Michigan fan in the background sporting an impressive flow. Flow Blue! (er, sorry, kill me now)
But I'm curious to see how MSU's D looks without Worthy (really important player for a few years and not sure they have anyone close to that level on the roster now) and how Maxwell plays.
"really important player for a few years and not sure they have anyone close to that level on the roster now"
Couldn't you say that about Cousins, Cunningham, Martin, and Foreman? If you look at the clutch play from just the first two in their close games last year (and the year before), it's going to take a hell of a replacement effort to be as good as advertised.
Wow NC State WR should have caught that!
I read somewhere that it will be closed. Sorry, too many Oberons to look for the link.
If state just layed a huge egg, that would be huge for Michigan in terms of recruiting.
Cass Tech players in attendance there
QB Jayru Campbell (2015)
WR/CB Damon Webb (2014)
LB Deon Drake (2014)
LB Will White (2014)
LB Gary Hosey (2014)
Did anyone else hear Desmond say on Sportscenter that Vincent Smith would be a liability because he is too small to pass block as compared to our other backs?
He must not be an avid MGoBlog reader
Seam route. Seam route. Seam route. -> NC State TD Drive
Kellen Moore dealin' on the sidelines
Bad Boise offensive line.
Edit: Boise is just plain looking undersized on both sides of the ball. They're getting clubbed like a Baby Seal U coming off the line.
My hate for Sparty has grown so much in these last couple years..
I've spent the first 19 years of my young life watching Michigan State exist as a mediocre program with no real success. Them achieving success over the last 4 years is an unwelcomed shock to what I've grown up knowing.
Damn, Sims is huge.
If Sims had chosen the right school, we wouldn't be having TE depth problems.
Frank Clark wouldn't have to steal a laptop from Stockwell. He could have just gotten one from Sims courtesy of the Detroit Public Schools.
Sparty is gonna be insufferable after this game
At what point were they ever sufferable?
Sparty was insufferable before, during, and after this game.
Ohhh Boise is screwed.....
Leveon Bell? More like Leveon Smell, am I right?!
I'll get my coat.
Boise lookin' mighty suspect in thier first series. Hope they can get in the groove.
by Bell was fairly nasty. Could be a long day for Boise...
Bells got a little Lagarette Blount in him. Hopefully he tries punching someone before the end of the game, too.
MSU looking awesome from the git go, and last year
MSU kills UM
UM kills Nebraska
Nebraska kills MSU
They didn't kill us. It was 21-14 midway through the 4th quarter when we failed to convert a 4th and 1 inside their 10. We got the ball back after that, still only down a score, but threw a pick six.
correct it with "MSU beats UM" (again)
Not bagging on anyone, just commenting on how strange the dynamic is among conference rivals.
I predict a 3 team dogfight this year for Leaders, and MSU certainly living up to preseason hype so far.
Should be an entertaining B1G season. May the best team win.
Drugs are bad m'kay. Typical sparty revisionist history. You are ignoring 60 minutes of the refs looking the other way as sparty committed one thug act over another.
Boise is a in 4-2-5, I suddenly see the root of their problem on defense. With only two LBs there, MSU is just blasting massive lanes in the middle. Go pull the box safety and get yourself an extra SAM in there.
Agree - I don't understand playing nickel against what is clearly a run-first offense.
Yeah, the Boise DC was staying in nickel despite facing both a TE and a FB. If he doesn't wise up, this is going to be over by halftime and midway through the 4th, Sparty's mascot is gonna be putting up Heisman like rushing numbers.
Eh, TCU stayed in a 4-2-5 against Wisconsin's MANBALL and that went okay. If they can keep passing lanes clogged and slow down the run enough, they'll be fine.
That was bad defense by the corner. He didn't use his body at all, just tried to wave his arms around
I don't know about this 4-2-5 okie defense.
Sims is just a big boy. Does Boise even have anyone as tall as him?
That fat ass is going to be Maxwell's safety blanket all season.
TD Sparty, 7-0, 7:47 left
Did you see the size of that guy trying to come up and stop the MSU RB? It's goal line and freaking Boise is counting on a DB to come up and club the RB in the hole. Did Boise hire GERG or a beaver recently?
They might have hired Shafer. Wasn't he a fan of the 4-2-5?
That was a demoralizing drive. LeVeon Bell looked great (as he did last year). For all the talk of Boise's power...
Boise looks like they've replaced a whole team...
Wow that was quick.
What's up with the weird black square on MSU 's jerseys? It looks like a huge amount of sweat.
I believe. Always thought it looked bad.
That's because it is a huge amount of sweat...
Southwick looks overwhelmed.
LT looks overwhelmed too. Tom is absolutely killing him.
I'm thinking they put in Northwick in the second half.
Ahhh. Little bro had to get him some new video boards, too...
They put ads on their video board.
This game is developing like I expected it to. Boise is overmatched physically.
That LT for Boise is just so bad. Gholston is decent, but against this guy he's looking like the greatest DE alive
That's definitely a bad spot. He may have gotten the first down. They should have reviewed that.
Bad spot but he was still short a half yard.
Damn, this UT/NC State is heating up. UT scores on a 72 yard bomb and follows that up with a safety.
Damn, UT scores again. Patterson with 129 all purpose yards and two TD's at the end of the first. That kid has some wheels.
Not bad first his first game as a Vol.
That punt couldn't have been placed in a worse location given how they set that coverage up. Boise is clearly not clicking right now.
One thing is pretty clear.....this is no where near the boise of yesteryear (which happens to be the last 5 or 6 yrs)
You can only strike on lower rated kids so many times before the law of average's catches up to you.
Or you have a system the relies on experience and have your first game in a tough environment after replacing a ton of starters.......
Boise has a good program, having a hard timein thus game doesn't invalidate what they've done. I have never understood the bizarre hard-on people have for trying to point out why BSU isn't legit.
Tennessee should move to the ACC hahaha
They are 0-3 vs the last 3 ACC teams they faced, so maybe they should join the sunbelt.
I hate Tennessee, so if NC State comes back and wins this game, I will laugh the night away.
What a gift of a pick...
hates EVERYTHING Michigan. I can't stand him. Arrogant prick!
On the other hand, Lou Holtz is a ND and South Carolina homer so bad! How many more years does he have left for this gig?
That's a huge play for Boise. They need to convert
That away Boise State
Nice play by Boise..
Lol looks like Spartys WR problems are REAL. Brick Hands!
OH yeah! pickerception!
Can we get a gif of the bobble and subsequent MSU on MSU wreckage asap please?
Let's hope Boise scores here.
(Might be the only time I get to say that this game. I still think Sparty will roll.)
Boise might have to resort to these reverse type plays to get in this game.
Looks like this might be a decent game, after all.
Way to blow a golden opportunity, Boise.
Anyone else catch the bsu coach grappling/pushing one of bsu's sideline players after the pick? Hysterical!
Punch it in broncos!
out of bounds?
If that happens right on the sideline, it's a late hit out of bounds. Don't normally see Spartan defenders tackling cheerleaders...at least without a ski mask
Damn Boise. You gotta convert those golden opportunities.
Don't like that 3rd down call
Not the cheerleaders! Is that a new low for sparty?
Did that state player push that male cheerleaders head towards his crotch when he was getting up?....
And then he twisted his head to try to break his neck. 60 minutes of Unnecessary Roughness and all.
They're getting destroyed out there.
SEC ESPN stuff on the Tennessee NC State game?
idk but Patterson is going to be a big player for UT
You act surprised.
throwing the logo up at every commercial and having it next to the score is a little much. Is it any wonder why we had to SEC teams in the MNC last year?
Meanwhile, I remember when Leveon Bell was pronounced TJ Duckett...
roll over and play dead, anyway.
I surprise myself with how much I dislike Dantonio. I like to think I'm a fairly collected guy.
I see a lot of quasi-legal dirtiness out of Sparty here. They like to use their opponents as leverage to get up off the ground, ride them unnecessarily out of bounds, etc. We're going to have to maintain our composure against these dickheads.
one on their cheerleader.
If Boise takes a lead, I bet it'll boil over for them
Even if not today, boiling over and a B1G suspension is probably in the cards this season for someone. I would say we should try and talk a little something to push them over the edge, but between arm-bars and twisted facemasks, all that'll do is get someone hurt or killed.
Looks like sparty has a pretty basic scheme on defense. Blitz.every.single.play. lol
In arrlington right now with one of my buds. Drove from niles, mich. My question to the board is where you all at? Were trying to catch up with some fellow bloggers and drink some beers. Also have two tickets for sale for the game
from the edge of the gridiron.
cripes nice pick
Boise LB has to have that pick.....
Wow, Sparty is getting some nice spots so far.
That helmet rule is full of bullshit.
BSU should have had a pick 6 there.
Im shocked Boise isnt in a 4-2-5 for that 4th down...
So far I'm not really impressed with the MSU pass attack. They've had some nice pickups, but more as a result of blown coverage than anything else
Also, that Boise LB should be kicking himself for not picking that earlier pass
I'd rather wear a Ohio State jersey with a Notre Dame tiara before I cheer for MSU for a single down
I'd rather watch Rosie O'Donnell perform a striptease than watch State, even to root against them.
Boise is physically overwhelmed here. MSU should win by two scores.
Good thing we have a home game against these thugs.
MSU is still defined by their performance against us. That's all the announcers talk about.
I hate these pricks oh so much.
I hate them even more because I have to deal with these cretins.
Maxwell looks like he might have some happy feet under pressure.
Yeah this passing attack does not have me worried one bit
Maxwell almost pulled a sparty no...
Wow.. What a kick
WHAT the hell is this commentator smoking? spartans are rooting for the big ten tomorrow night. BULLSHIT. those wing nuts in east lansing are openly rooting for the tide.
This whole root for the conference really bugs me. There is no formula for who you should vote for. If you want a team to win, root for them. If you want a team to lose, root against them. I get the feeling that the Big Ten vs SEC is just a way to boost ratings.
A 50-yarder. Who the heck is MSU's kicker? Did they find a Gramatica?
But, yea, Maxwell does not look good when any bit of pressure is put on him especially from the back seven.
Bell, OTOH, looks like a beast.
DANG! WE COULD HAVE HAD PEPPER! TERRIBLE RECRUITING LOSS THERE!
Dantonio's fake anger gets tiresome. Your kicker made a 50-yarder, Mark. You don't have to pretend to be angry.
Lol beating Michigan in a head to head recruiting battle.. Dude was offered as a walk on.
"He must've got a lot of pleasure in beating Michigan in a recruiting battle for a long-snapper"
Yeah, was laughing at that one. Offered a scholly to a guy was going to walk-on. How the rest of the recruiting battle going - if they start talking about national recruiting I am going to fall out of chair.
if it were tomorrow's game, and it was the bama kicker, and it was from 53 yards, id give him a 65% chance of making that. /s relating to prior thread
Holy shit...did they just say Dantonio beat us on a recruiting battle for a LS? Because he offered our walk-on a schollie?
Maxwell sucks (so far).
I'm not going to judge Maxwell over his first start tonight. He should be much better come Oct 20th.
We will still have to play a great game to beat them. With that said though....you can already see on their D that they are missing Worthy already. His ability to jump the snap count made that entire DLine better.
Yeesh...this O-Line is just bad
Wow, ten straight minutes of talking about Michigan. Commentators are talking more about us than BSU.
That's why they're our little brother.
Boise St needs to pass the ball on 1st down.
Makes me SICK seeing a well-coached Michigan State team. It's like some sort of twisted nightmare that came true.
Let's go Boise!
Hopefully this is where Petersen comes up big as an in-game coach.
These fools can't go 10 minutes without mentioning Michigan.
Speaks about state's program since their sole reason for playing football is for one game.
There has only been one touchback. If Alabama's kicker doesn't have the leg then...NORFLEET!
That sucks, hopefully Dennard is alright
Boise is finally settling in..
It really feels like they're starting to find cracks in the MSU defense. And they looked much better on defense themselves leading up to the field goal. Plus, losing Dennard has to help them, even though it's bad for football in general.
Lets hope Boise comes out on fire in the 2nd!
That's the X-Factor MSU just can't prepare for.
Boise getting tricky - like it
WTG Boise, that was a hawt play... lol
Chris Petersen pulling out all the stops. I like it.
For all the hype about him as one of the top DEs in the land, he's just standing up and getting pushed backward by the Boise LT.
Trick plays a plenty. Boise digging deep into the playbook.
Nice throw back play there. Don't see that often.
Keep your head up dumb@ss, you'd have seen te cutback hole. SMH
If Boise could get 2 more yards per run this game would be a lot closer... small margins here
MSU looks good but it is the BIG TEN. There is nothing that seems overpowering or anything that says they will run with the BIG TEN. In my opinion I thought they would have come out stronger.
Are as good as advertised. They're cleaning up in the run game. The D-Lline is clearly not up to the hype at the moment.
Boise's pretty fun to watch. I wish they were in a real conference. It'd be cool if they were in the Pac 10.
I have the msu-bsu game on in the background while playing with my 4 yr old daughter. They just showed sparty and she asked, "who's that?". I told her it is sparty spartan. When they cut away, she said, "aww, I wanted to punch him!". That's my girl!
This sparty crowd sounds horrible. Not sure if it is the TV or just the crowd in general. For a newly minted national power against boise you would think the crowd would be on fire.
They have shown up.
we are going to roll these fuckers. sparty looks horrible, especially their defense.
Sparty gonna Spart.
Prettyy disappointed with the mgoblog community. Are you really telling me no one on the blog is out tailgating? Or wants the chance at two tickets?
Of course it's Gholston
It wasn't the linebacker, it was on Tom.
LOL, the booing is music to my ears for the roughing the passer. way to go Tommy.
At least there have yet to be any attempted murders on the QB
gholston, imagine that
Gholston being all Gholston.. Sparty NO
MSU players buncha THUGS.
Jesus, how dirty is Michigan State? Gholston gets a personal foul for Roughing The Passer. And MSU's DB should've gotten one too.
Also, Boise can not run inside.
Shows up 8 days late and gets called for a costly roughing.
and the great gholston again makes an ass out of himself on the field. What a joke dude will flame out just like vernon did.
You cannot change the culture if you don't call it. /s
Nice to see MSU working on the rep early in the season.
Wow what pieces of shit. I hope Michigan fans taunt the shit out of tom gholston when they come here with signs, yelling when he's walking out for warmups etc.
MSU playing dirty - no way
I also agree with the announcers, the Refs need more consistency on those defenseless opponent penalties
BSU is not going to get anything running up the middle.
There's your 60 minutes of Unnecessary Roughness.
Refs had their pick of 2 different penalties.
Why no penalty on the defenseless receiver?
State's defense is dirty. Dirty as in gritty and a good defense and dirty as in cheap shots
Momentum back to MSU.
Glad to see tonights game is covered in Bolivia! Is the announcing better down there?
All I hear them talking about is Michigan, Michigan, Michigan...must be the Spanish broadcast.
If it goes back and forth that much, it ain't momentum.
There should be a limit on the number of personal fouls you can accummulate. If you get two in a game, you should be ejected automatically. And if you get, say, five in a season, you're automatically suspended for the next game. For guys like Gholston, the 15 yards isn't enough of a disincentive.
Not sure how much traction you are going to get with trying to make football more like soccer
Agreed, most coaches with ethics will actual bench a player if they get too many but we know that they coach personal fouls in east lansing
Phenomenal play by Williamson in the end zone. QB shouldn't have thrown it, but what an effort by the DB!
That's just like the int they had against us in '09
nice push on the receiver while the ball as in the air. These officials in this game are horrible right now.
Please explain how that wasn't pass interference.
I don't speak Sparty.
So what, that's twice Boise has been in the RedZone and they've come away with 3 points. Yeesh
I wish ESPN would stop shilling the "Alabama has 14 National Titles" bit. When 5 were awarded by the Tuscaloosa News...they don't really have 14
Pick that sh*T!!
Ask, and you shall receive.
Led that DB perfectly! Nice touch on that one.
Maxwell is awful
He went to my HS alma mater and is easily the best QB in school history. But Dantonio never got him useful game experience, so it's unsurprising that he's struggling.
He'll get better by the time he plays us . . . and he'll need to. A LOT better.
He's a stiff out there.
SPARTY NOOOOO !!!!
That away Boise State!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love the blitz package that's more sophisticated than Narduzzi's double-A gap nonsense. FANTASTIC!
Methinks there could be some growing pains with Sparty's new QB.
Wow did they just compare Michigan and Bama to Sparty and Boise while talking about prestigous programs?
Tipped picks are plentiful tonight.
Me thinks the trick is to get pressure on Mr. Maxwell...
Yep. The guy looks totally flustered under pressure.
Wow!!!! What an interception!!!
Maxwell will be better come the 20th but I really hope not by much.
I am officially not worried about sparty's qb anymore.
After 1 1/2 quarters of one football game? You're getting a little ahead of yourself.
Maxwell looks hot and cold. Some passes have been pretty good. But he should have 4 interceptions right now.
I am sure he will be better by the time we play them, but he is no Cousins 2.0 as sparty fans hyped him to be all off season.
Bell is solid, and so is that line, but Maxwell has a long way to go if he continues to feel this uncomfortable with pressure...
Enjoying both an Oberon and the stunned, silenced MSU student section.
God I love having college football back.
Maxwell does get all freaked out back there!!!
Side note 513 yards of offense between Tenn NC State with 2:44 left in the 1st half. WOW
In the words of the great Sean Connery, suck it, Maxwell. Suck it long, and suck it hard.
I have to give BSU credit for staying in the game. These are some gritty kids.
Maxwell has not thrown the ball well under pressure. A lot more confidence in stopping MSU on offense so far.
Everyone drink to wash down that delicious "SPARTY NO!"
Told me Maxwell was better that Kork Coupons.
He is going to make mistakes as a first year starter. And let's be honest the first INT was entirely on the receiver. Maxwell made the correct read and threw a nice ball.
He's certainly going to make his share of mistakes. What's comical is that MSU fans have been talking as though there would be absolutely no dropoff from Cousins to Maxwell.
The first INT was definitely more on the receiver, but ever since then, Maxwell has been a trainwreck.
I'm making a joke, Kork Coupons is funny, say it out loud.
Ever note how often truly shitty offense loses championships.
I feel that if Boise can pull this off that Michigan has more than enough for Alabama?
Yes. Don't underestimate the impact of first games.
Even Holly Rowe>whoever that chick is...
That's Jemele Hill. She's a State grad, and I think she's having a hard time controlling her homer emotions. I feel like you can tell how the game is going based on how mopey she has become. She is awful regardless of that though.
Dantonio looks . . . unhappy.
That's how he always looks.
Dantonio just took away Maxwell's passing priveliges
I love me some great sparty no moments!!!!
are telling me/were telling me how Maxwell is a better QB than Denard. I mean, seriously, LOL.
seriously 3 down linemen on a 3rd and short....oh well it doesnt matter Sparty goes all sparty
working on that rep for good sportsmanship in the early going here. Hey, it's only game one.
This game is so very very lulz worthy
Bosie's best strategy is to just stand there and let Sparty self-destruct.
Should have been another pick..
Almost another pick, lets go boise state!!!!!!!!
Another INT would've been just delicious.
What a bum. This kid sucks.
someone must be a south pole elf
Sparty being Sparty?
Sparty self destructing, delicious!
Sparty gonna Spart.
MSU is Self destructing! hahahahaha
And then there's the late hit by MSU
He's got John Navarre tipped-ball problems!
late hit by punter, classic sparty
Even on special teams they keep to the game plan! Even better, the punter!
late hit on punt return
