A few Top 25 teams are in action tonight on ESPN2:
Iowa is currently up by 8 on MSU nearing the end of the first half.
This game is followed by (4) Arizona at Oregon and St Mary's at (9) Gonzaga
Enjoy the college hoops!
I was literally just going to start this thread. Watching Sparty struggle with Iowa right now is fascinating, mostly because they have absolutely nobody who can score.
that shot of hyperbole is giving me a buzz : )
i know what you mean, though.
My penchant for hyperbole goes in the shape of a parabolic arc. Tomorrow and the next day, I'll call things exactly how I see them. But, Sunday, whoo boy, it's going to be the most hyperbolic day in the history of mankind.
"My penchant for hyperbole goes in the shape of a parabolic arc. Tomorrow and the next day, I'll call things exactly how I see them. But, Sunday, whoo boy, it's going to be the most hyperbolic day in the history of mankind."
I see what you did there!
Was shocked to see Iowa winning at the half without devyn marble who is out with an ankle injury. Think MSU will pull away in the 2nd half and win by around 10 though.
MSU is one of those teams we should beat by 20, but if you catch them on the wrong night and don't shoot quite as well they can go off. Hopefully they play like this when we get them.
Take off the maize and blue goggles and be realistic. Beating any big ten team by 20 is difficult let alone a top 25 rival. I would gladly take a one point victory at Breslin and hope for more of a statement win at home.
20 might be a bit of an exaggeration... :) Don't get me wrong, I'd take a win any way we can get it. If that means a 1 point buzzer beater, I'm in. I just think we have better shooters across the board, and we take care of the ball much better.
What they have going for them is athleticism, especially with Payne, Harris, Appling, and Dawson, so if they get fired up and start hitting shots, they're tough.
I disagree. M can really score, and MSU has turned is a few really bad games. If they turn in against us like they're playing tonight, a 20 point win wouldn't surprise me at all.
Again, the poster above didn't predict we'd win by 20, just that they're a team we could beat by 20, depending on which MSU team shows up.
Yeah, that's what I meant to get at, but I did say "should" instead of "could" which I think is a bit of a stretch.
Probably not that much of a stretch though. Minnesota beat them by 13.
It's possible, and I would love nothing more than to see Izzo go bat shit crazy in an embarrassing pair of losses but don't see it happening. I suffered through the 40 plus point beat downs Michigan use to endure to them and would love nothing more than to return the favor. 2 wins or possible 3 by any margin will suffice though.
While that is the politically correct thing to say, we've already beaten two B1G teams by over 20, and another one by 15. MSU is better than any of those three, but I can see us running them over on our court and theirs. Our guys will be focused and ready to light it up. I'd gladly take a one point win at Breslin too, but I think beating them by 10 or more isn't far fetched.
Iowa scored 6 points in the last 11 minutes of the half and they are still up by 4....
28-24? Are they playing football?
Not if Michigan State's scoring 24 points!
I don't need 110 point track meets all the time, but damn is this boring.
Massey projects this as a 66-65 game, so everyone is aware. If they keep scoring at this pace, however, you would be looking at a 55-44-ish win for the Hawkeyes. Both teams are killing their impressive 40% from the field right now.
...and the Iowa bench whispers the secret, "Make baskets...". They seem to have remembered this just now.
I refer you to Michigan State vs Iowa.
Hey, at least this game is entertaining, in a sadistic kind of way.
This Iowa , staee game is pretty brutal.
You have to laugh at Iowa's ''mediacom court''
One second you see Payne mugging #15
Then Trice gets "fouled" on a breakaway layup
The latest Judge Dredd film, straight to DVD! I wonder if they got any of the moral ambiguity about lethal force the graphic novel boasted of this time around.
Believe it or not it was in the theaters for some time hah, and yes it's more equivalent to the graphic novels then it is to the Stallone garbage.
Pretty sure that was in theaters. Albeit for a short amount of time. And I'm pretty sure they'll substitute any thought provoking themes with giant explosions. I rented it tonight; I'll let you know how it is. I lied, I'm not gonna follow up on that promise.
Yikes, UNC is down by 9 to The U!
This McCabe kid reminds me of Novak
Anyone see that face going into that TO?
This is how I see it:
Iowa is playing like they really really want to win this game.
MSU is playing like they really really don't want to lose this game.
Me thinks Iowa wins, never play to "not lose". Just my 2 cents.
Lovin' the periodic Izzo meltdowns. Go Hawkeyes!
that was the worst call ive ever seen
Love how MSU got the no call on that ovbious walk.
By the transitive property ...
"It literally was a floor-slapping defensive stand by Michigan State"
*look of confusion and constipation directly into the camera*
now that's good TV!
Iowa's PG has turned the ball over for an easy lay-up at least 5 times this half. Thos have single handedly cost them the game (assuming they lose)
Geez, Iowa had this game with 1 min to go and MSU just went on a run...
Every commentator gives the "You don't need a three" speech at this juncture of a game. It's like from the Great Book of Commentary. Personally, if I could get an open three I'd take it.
Sparty should be 1-2 in conference play.
Honestly have no real fear of sparty at all
Seems to be getting worse. That's kinda sad.
What??? The guy is inconsistent and often sloppy, but a simple stats-check refutes your observation:
Dawson led all scorers with 17 points and had 4 rebs, 3 assts, 3 steals, and a block. The guy is usually a turnover machine but only had 1 tonight.
To throw out another stat, it was his best scoring output of the season.
Way to make me defend an MSU player.....but stats don't lie.
He scored in double figures in 7 out of their first 9 games and has hit double figures 3 out of the last 7. Those stats seem to suggest he may be getting worse.
well, certainly when you separate his games into the first 9 games and then the remaining 7 games you can make that case (despite the arbitrary nature of that division).
In terms of B1G play which is where it really counts (arguably), he is averaging (through 3 games): 13pts, 5.7reb, 1.3 ast, 1.7 stl, 0.7TOs..
For the first 3 games of B1G play he is above his season averages (or below for TOs) in all categories. Now, my point isn't, in any way, to toot this guy's horn or make him out to be an all-world player, but rather to simply disagree that he's getting (or seems to be getting) worse.
Well one team can make free throws and one cannot
Doesn't get less impressive than that in the lat minute of the game.
Did you watch the first 39?
One usually hopes that a buzzer-beating shot would at least hit something on its flight other than the floor...
that despite the win for Sparty tonight, they don't seem to be as disciplined a team the past 2-3 years like they used to be? They make some bonehead mistakes quite often anymore.
They used to play such a solid brand of BBall, but not so much now IMO.
Yep. It's painfully obvious they lack anyone with a high basketball IQ. Maybe Gary Harris.
It's like a bunch of good to great athletes thrown onto the court with no knowledge of how the game should be played. All they know is they're supposed to put the ball through the hoop more times than the other team.
I hope Gary Harris goes pro after this year, but I think he a fringe prospect in terms of getting drafted at the moment.
The cumulative odds of sweeping Michigan State this year, based on current numbers, are still better than 50%. I'll take it. Actually, of the teams in the conference we play twice, other than Northwestern, MSU is the most vulnerable by most projections. That works for the stats nerd in me.
Zona is losing. One less unbeaten (hopefully).
WTF is up with Oregon's court? It burns my retinas.
A replica of a forest background, right?
Yeah, it's annoying as hell, I'm so tired of this crap, Boise and their blue field and E. Wash with their red field and this Oregon BBall Court mess is just stupid. All the Uniformz thing too, silly as shit , but it makes money and we gotta keep up, whatever. they don't care what I think, why should they.
Green Football Fields and a normal looking BBall Court is okay enough and recognizable, stop the madness, who the F*** am i watching?
Agree, except about Boise's turf - they've had that for like 30 years now. It's their thing.
It's a forest as viewed from the vantage point of someone looking up while laying on their back. Apparently the fir theme relates to Oregon basketball glory days.
Still stupid and ugly as f$&@. But as you said, it's all about appealing to the whims of high school kids nowadays. At some point you have to draw the line though. Shit is getting unbearable.
It's terrible like all things Oregon. When it comes to style and design, you won't find more cheesy.
Listening to Bill Walton on this Zona-Oregon game is difficult. Guy sucks.
Wow I've been watching only for the past 4 in game minutes and I already agree with you.
This game is over barring a OU meltdown.
Have to hold onto that rebound. Wonder if Singler is related to Kyle.
Down goes Zona. Now beat Ohio and hope Duke loses.
And then there were two...
MSU should have lost, Arizona did...crap I was going to bed but looks like I'll be watching the Zaga game now lol.
This weekend is gonna be huge for analysts to compare Duke and Michigan. Duke beat Ohio State at home, Michigan beat NC State at home. I know the matchups aren't exact but seeing how we fare with OSU and they fare with the Wolfpack will be interesting.
St. Mary's is starting to rally a comeback.
