The D-League as petri dish for weird basketball concepts.
College Basketball Afternoon Open Thread
I hope this doesn't jinx it
Yes, one thread created at mgoblog just might do that.....
i'm from NC and absolutely can't stand duke and i know they'll lose a handfull of games this year but i seriously doubt this will be one of those
No, this would not make me upset if Duke lost. But they wont.
How many of these jinx threads must there be before we all learn the lesson?
Call it the Saturday afternoon open thread.
Call it the Saturday what are you drinking thread.
Do not anger the upset gods.
True. I suggest changing the thread to college basketball open thread before the half starts.
Just call it a game thread. It's not an upset alert until it looks like they're actually going to pull it out.
The first rule of Upset Club is you don't talk about Upset Club.
There is more than a half to go, and you're referring to Duke playing a Junior college.
Santa Clara - Steve Nash's alma mater, BTW - is hardly a junior college.
I'm clearly wrong there. But "upset alert" for this game when there was still 1 minute + 1/2 of an entire game is a bit alarmist...no?
And to clarify, Santa Clara is an excellent college, and has a great women's soccer program, but I was referring to their likely competitive ability vs. Duke in basketball, with half the game remaining.
If Santa Clara keeps it close and we roll the Chips tonight maybe we get enough votes on Monday to be #1. That would look nice heading into conference play!!
A little premature huh?
In other news, NC State is now ranked #23 and is beating WMU.
Might as well add this game in there, too. Really need the Wolfpack to pull away and keep M's win over them looking impressive.
They just showed a "Remaining Unbeatens" stat during the Duke game. Pretty awesome seeing that Block M in a graphic like that.
That was pretty sweet. Had no clue about Wyoming.
Looks like their best win is at home against Colorado.
Chocolate milk or white milk for you?
By putting annoying links with bogus claims in random blog posts?
Lol, duke is getting all the calls. Everytime plumlee gets the ball they call the foul on whoever is gaurding him. Not to mention he is traveling on just about every possession, yet it never gets called.
They definitely are, but that last foul on atanga was dumb and obvious.
Yeah I totally agree, that last one was the correct call. But the 2 fouls on him earlier this half were jokes, as are the majority of the calls.
Yet another call going dukes way, he didn't even look set to take that charge. Hopefully they show the replay.
Yep. That dumbass foul swung the momentum and probably the game. What a dunce. I hope he feels bad
beneath the basket was the first thing I saw.
The usual from Plumlee...
This is exactly what you can expect when Duke plays at home... Every little contact is a foul against whoever Duke is playing. Even against OSU this exactly what occurred.
NC State pulling away from Western with 10 minutes left. They have been playing good ball since our game.
I'm surprised Duke is struggling with Santa Clara after all the impressive wins they have this year.
I was surprised to see that Santa Clara was ranked 87 on kenpom, which makes them a reasonable opponent. Pretty sure duke should win by around 15, they have played very sloppy this half so far, missing a lot of free throws and Layups.
Just like Bill Russell told Uncle Drew, this game will always be about 1 thing...buckets. You guys just arent making enough of them...
These refs are giving everything to Duke. The Santa Clara coach looks like he's about to pop a vein.
or even the close game. Duke up by 14.
So much for a Duke upset....
Blowout Alert: Duke up by 15 on Santa Clara with 7 1/2 minutes to go. Duke at the line. Looks like Duke has this pretty well in hand.
Well I was largely unimpressed with plumlee and the duke team as a whole(off day). I think that may have been the worst 20 point and 13 rebounds performance I've seen from a player, since he was gifted the majority of his points. He shot 13 freethrows and deserved to shoot about 2. Not to mention he was traveling everwhere. If anyone touched him...free throw. The majority of the team I was unipressed with as well today, no one seemed to make a true impact.
My only exception to that was Seth Curry. He played really well and impressed me a lot.
This analysis of the game must have been based on ignorance or hatred.
Did you even watch the game or just look at the final stats....?
Ready to see what this freshman from UNLV is like that the talking heads keep referring to. It's also weird not seeing UNC and Kentucky both not ranked.
Its very wierd to see neither of them ranked. I wonder the last time that has happened...has to have been a long time ago.
45-20 over Niagara. 62.1% shooting, 62.5% from 3-point range.
Thanks for the update. Their 3 pt shooting has been awesome this year.
Illinois struggling a bit with Auburn at the half. Not much Defense being played in this one. 47 - 42 Illini up
