Collective Thanks to My Fellow Mgobloggers

Submitted by Marvin on

I hope I'm not overstepping here, but I just wanted to say thank you to Brian Cook, the great writers at Mgoblog, and especially to my fellow Mgobloggers for once again making this a football season to remember.

The people who post on this site are knowledgeable about football, passionate about Michigan athletics, and yet at the same time (I think, for the most part) aware that it's just a game -- a hugely important game -- but a game nevertheless. That's why so many posts are funny. I guess at some level it's inherently absurd to be so hugely invested in all of this -- but it is what it is.

This has been a rough year (I'll omit details) for Marvin and his clan, but I always know that this website will provide a respite from the often shitty shitty shitstorms that rain down upon you in this world.

I want this year's team to beat Ohio State more than I have in any previous season, and I have been an avid fan (as a student and an alum) for more than 40 years. For some reason, even though he is young enough to be my own son, I want Joey Bosa to know what it's like to lose to the Michigan Wolverines.

Anyway, with Thanksgiving and The Game coming up I felt like sending out some gratitude vibes to the very best of the best fans in the world.

Go Blue!

Very well said. The MGoBlog community serves an important role in our lives, and it is well worth stating as much from time to time. With a very emotionally demanding job, and a rough work schedule, I echo your sentiments. Here's to another great week of football, folks. Go Blue!

Thanks, Marvin, and right back at you. I hope you get everything straightened out and that 2016 is a better year. Keep your chin up.
What a night?! Good vibes all around!

I'd like to thank the Mgobloggers who have taken the time to donate. As a student, that's not really in the cards for me yet. Some day, not this day. But I appreciate that my enjoyment of this content is a direct result of others' generosity. So thanks

Like you Marvin, i am laying in bed, drinking a cold Sierra Nevada, listening to Rush whilst our wives ignore us, and feeling the same vibe. Except i am masturbating furiously to old workout videos, and drinking the stuff you can't afford. The point remains though, we're both dudes who've had rough years, and Geddy Lee says " hi" . And Go Blue.

Hang in there, Marvin. I know what you're going through, you mentioned it before, and I have been there. It's awful, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. You're a good person, you'll get there.

When I had my LASIK done, for ~2 weeks after my eyes were not as good at focusing on close objects but I still could see well enough to, for example, navigate my apartment and locate the fridge, etc. The Game might be a little blobbier than usual but you can still tell what's up.

Just stick to the eye drop schedule!! Buy a kitchen timer if you haven't already!!

And Go Blue!

I think I know exactly where you're coming from Marvin. My family went through several weeks of turmoil that finally ended last Wednesday. I made mention of it in lats week's Friday Posbang topic; I also made note that one of the things keeping me sane during those weeks was this place, and Michigan football in general. The content, the users, the posts. It's easy to lose yourself, even if for only 5 minutes at a time. I do not know what it is that the Clan of Marvin has gone through, but whatever it is I hope you have made it through the worst of it. Go Blue, Beat those damn Buckeyes!

Cheers Marvin and to those who are enduring the real aspects of "life". I've a fortunate life; sure I've got much to bitch about (no Bourbon County variants in the area AGAIN!???), but not much that compares to many around here and obviously around the area/state/country/world. So yea, an early thanks to those that make this place a great place of entertainment -bloggers, writers, diarists, board posters- is a splendid idea.

Yes, it sucks when your escape goes 3 and 9.

Marvin, success is the ability to go from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm.

Thanks to Brian for giving me the 100 points to start posting.

I do not write much on the blog, but what any writer craves is

an audience.

Got to visit with Jon Falk, and some other M Men again yesterday at the Great Debate.

The longer I am on the planet, the more I appreciate the large M community, and my opportunities to interact with them, and, hopefully, give something back.

The poster who ran the season prediction poll bounced  my entry because I had us 100% to beat Ohio.  I also had 90% to lose to state.

Along with The Knowledge, my 10-2 prediction is still good.

We will beat the Bucks by double digits, lead at the half, and never be headed.

Yours in football.

I have had some run-ins with real life myself in the course of this year - the largest one is that my father's battle with Parkinson's is starting to become a true battle on a daily basis and we had our first real scare when he had a small stroke in June. It puts an intriguing spin on holidays like Thanksigivng and - soon enough - Christmas because now I have begun to think about how many more of these will he be in my life for, but I also am learning to appreciate those moments more than I have in the past.

Through it all, MGoBlog has been a refuge of sorts for something about which I have always been passionate - Michigan athletics, the University, and the community surrounding it. Not just Ann Arbor, the city that basically raised me, but this highly engaged subset of the Michigan fanbase on MGoBlog that has, through the years, raised the bar on sports discussion with just the right hint of highly educated wit and obscure pop references to keep me coming back each day.

My thanks to the community was to take on its most thankless job, of course - being a mod. That might say a lot about my sanity and very little of it is likely promising, but it is my way of saying "Thanks" to everyone.

Hear Hear!

Thanks to everyone for the humor, insight, analysis, commiseration, and joy of being a Michigan Wolverine. It always keeps me coming back for more.

Best wishes to you and yours, Marvin!

It's funny how recognizeable avatars are to me.  As soon as I saw yours I immediately thought "I' havent seen him around in a while" so it's nice to have you back.  Sorry for whatever was going on in your personal life and hopefully it's good (or at least not as bad) right now.

Have a happy Thanksgiving Marvin!  Good to see your super suave face back.
