I appreciate our current class a lot for sticking it out and nothing will change that.. But how come Michigan commits (who have decommitted) can't do what all these prospects are doing to JH...

Seriously, just seems like Michigan always get short changed on prospects (so to speak with highly rated prospects)... I hope 2016 will change that..

They decommitted during a transition time and there was no guarantee we would have gotten harbaugh. While I would like to think that recruits should commit to the school and not the coaches, that's pretty idealistic and not how it works for most of them. Also, Other schools spots were being filled up as well, and it really did require a harbaugh level hire to raise the confidence of recruits in the program. Imagine what this class would have looked like with a Schiano like hire...

But several were not during transitional period.. You think of who we lost

George Campbell

Damien Harris

Shaun Crawford

Darian Roseboro

Mike Weber

Darrin Kirkland

Chris Clark (hope we get him back but not looking good)

Some were not during transitional period.. It was in the before or in the middle of Hoke's last year... Just that seems like Michigan could get poach so easily this year... But I definitely know what you are saying..

I just hope that in the next couple of years, JH gets firm commits like Saban gets with his commits... Just a matter of time and winning...

Jim is trying to squeeze 12-24 month process in 1 month.  It isn't easy.

That said I look forward to playing UCLA in the Rose in a few years - Mora will be long gone and Harbaugh won't.

Huh?  Why would you think that.  Mora has UCLA on an upward track and from all indications loves living in LA.  Along with a fan base that has, mostly, reasonable expectations for football and thats a recipe for sticking around for a long time.  Of the two coaches, I'd honestly bet on Harbaugh leaving before Mora.

With Mora interviewing this past off-season, I would think he would bolt if he had a HC position (give or take certain conditions were met).. If he is so happy, he would not be interviewing NFL HC positions...  I think he didn't leave becaue he did not get the offer he wanted...

Again, people had made bets that JH would never go back to college after his successful stint at SF.. I think JH would be in the Michigan position much longer than Mora...  In many ways (if we take all the other factors out), Mora had a few year head start compare to JH in going back to the NFL (but I believe JH will stay for a while in comparison to Mora)..

Mora never interviewed for the Jets job and the 9er's never approached him.  Facts are fun things when you look at them.  Not saying Jim isn't going to be here for a while but Mora has had numerous chances to leave and hasn't taken them.

wow crazy talk harbaugh has had his staff filled for around 2 weeks now. were you expecting kids that have had the same coaches in their ear for years to all the sudden flip. wow he has already gotten a few and I think more to come. settle down yo if this was the 2016 class then maybe but seriously he has done great to even get these guy to even consider a visit

It never was going to be easy to get solid recruits in a month. Hoke filled up his first class with a bunch of 2 stars and 3 stars who never saw the field with the exception of Frank Clark then signed back to back top 10 classes. Harbaugh will be a very good recruiter when the kids haven't already made up their mind for a year where they want to go. There's a ton of top talent interested in us for 2016 and hey we still have Chris Clark out there for this class.

Well like all things a portion of the fanbase is unrealistic.  Some expect a bunch of committed 4 stars with 1-2 year relationships to drop everything in 3 weeks for Harbaugh.  Not reality.

THey also compare to Urban who has a lot of inherent advantages - way more talent in state that has dreamt its whole life to go to OSU AND are actually top shelf talent (much more limited amount of players like that in MI), 1 down year for OSU vs nearly every teenager's entire teenage years for UM, Urban had 1 more entire month to work recruits, including prior to Dec 15th dead period, etc.

That said does anyone know of a site that can quickly show the order of how that 2011 class fell?  I'd be curious to take a look back and see who committed at what date?  Or if not can we see who Hoke closed on vs RichRod?  It would be interesting to see what came of Hoke's players.

Again we should be VERY happy this class is tiny.  If Funchess, Hayes, Ferns, and Bosch had not gone it probably would be 9 players right now.  Even now its 13+.  If this transition had happened in 2017 we'd be f********* for the next 2-4 years with a 26+ class.

I was just merely providing a resource that would allow OP to organize recruits by committment dates.

Also Urban was hired on November 28th, Brady Hoke on January 11th, and Harbaugh on December 30th...

IIRC, there is a month-long NCAA recruiting "dead period" from December 15th to January 15th, so Urban did have a little over two weeks advantage in recruiting over the other two coaches.

Overall, very few of those recruited ended up as starterst:

Se'Von Pittman - Transferred

Tommy Schutt - Backup DT

Noah Spence - Started, Suspended, Transferred...

Taylor Decker - Starter

Joey O'Connor - Career-ending injuries

David Perkins - Transferred

Cam Williams - Buried in depth chart

Armani Reeves - Started, Injured, Medical Redshirt?

Jamal Marcus - Expelled from team

Kyle Dodson - Buried in depth chart

to play defense than offense. Despite all the attention it gets, flipping reecruits, especially when you are starting late, at this stage is pretty rare. Keep your expectations in check.

It appears that the recruits can't say no when they are face-to-face with our coaches. That bodes well for the future when Harbaugh and company are meeting and talking with players who haven't already committed somewhere.

Its a damn miracle we're getting anyone with a 3 week window; after we win games next year we'll do alot better. Just a little recruitin' pain for now.

My guess is these recruits are genuinely excited about a Michigan offer. They get a call from Jim Harbaugh this late in the game, of course they want to visit. But then Mora, Saban, etc. whoever's been recruiting them for months or even years reels them back in before they get a chance to visit or seriously consider M.

Losing out on Samuel and Lockett will be totally moot if we snag Marshall. As was said earlier, even for rock star Jimmy, squeezing a 1 year process into 1 month is a monumental undertaking. If the HARBAUGH is having this kind of impact in just a month, imagine what kind of beast he will be for the 2016 class, and I fully expect it to be a top 2 or 3 ranked class. He has way more to sell now to a recruit than Saban had when he first started at Bama in 2007. Even with a BCS title with LSU, Saban could never sell NFL success like Jimmy can.

You can't look at it that way.  You have to figure a lot of these kids are entrenched.  A lot of these programs are like "You better like what you see because your spot is gone if you visit".  A lot of pressure on these kids to do the right thing..

I say let's be happy with what we get in such limited time (and obviously be thrilled we have a coach like Harbaugh!). There's no doubt there's already talent on this team, and there's no doubt Harbaugh and this excellent staff can coach it. Yeah, I'd like to land more and better recruits right now.. but it's hard when kids have been talking to/commited to schools for months to years now. I am about ready to see these kids coached to their best ability in 2015, meanwhile Coach Harbaugh will be bringing in one of the best recruiting classes possible for 2016.
