Colin Cowherd today: "Rich Rodriguez is the biggest favor Big Ten football fans have ever had"

Submitted by othernel on

Colin Cowherd just said that the Big Ten needs Michigan to win and that OSU should be rooting for UM to go 11-0 into the last game.

He also said that unlike the SEC, the Big Ten has no second team to "carry the mantle" of the conference.

He also said "The offense is a nightmare, and now you're not getting West Virginia athletes, you're getting Michigan athletes. I'm here to tell you, if Rich Rodriguez, and I really believe this. If they give him a chance there and give him 5 or size years, Michigan's winning a national title."

Brian Cook is on the radio right now--good gourd, I hope Michigan fans don't hate him because he's The Media now!

BRIAN BRIAN TURN THE MIKE OFF!! DON'T SAY ANYTHING BAD (REALISTIC) ABOUT MICHIGAN!!!

OH MAN the WHOLE FUTURE OF MGOBLOG IS AT STAKE!!!

I think most non-Michigan Big Ten fans would prefer the opportunity to take revenge on Michigan for decades of getting their asses kicked, instead of a Michigan that steamrolls them every year.

Cowherd is a major douche, but just when you want to write him off permanently, he says something like this.

Shortly after RR was hired and the WVU people were going psycho-ex, Cowherd did a major tirade against the WVU fans, telling them to let it go. It was really funny and not complimentary to them. He may have even originated using "psycho-ex" in reference to jilted WVU fans. So, it's like you have to listen to fifty hours of douchebaggery for one good two or three-minute segment.

I think I'll just get the highlights off of mgoblog.

Its amazing what winning can do to your public image and support. I've been supporting RR since day 1 and its great to finally have some positive support from the mainstream media.

It almost seems that if Satan was a head coach, went undefeated, and won a MNC then he'd be treated as a saint. This could also be vice versa.

what some of these sports commentators say. Most of the times they're "mister obvious," and quick to exaggerate whatever is going on. You lose and you're a failure, you win and you're the most exciting thing out there. I happen to agree with what he is saying, but while many of us shared that opinion more than a year and a half ago, I don't think he was preaching at that time from the same gospel he is preaching today.

I don't mind him. I think he was an idiot with the Mzone thing but other than that he's ok. He is a USC homer but for the most part he will give credit where it is due and bash teams/people that deserve it.

Of course, it should be pointed out throughout August he said the situation in Ann Arbor was a disaster.

My coworkers love the sports radio talk so we often listen to Mike/Mike into Cowherd. He pounded Michigan all summer.

Typical, loudmouth talking head.

You telling me everything was all rosie in August? It was a circus, and kind of has been since Day One of the hire. Lawsuits, media shit, shredding, recruits/decommits, 3-9. Holy shit, how could an outside, objective observer NOT have looked at all that was going on and thought, "ZOMG! That place is a couch waiting to be burned!"?

him and he does bandwagon a bit. He generally does a good job of telling it like it is. He is not afraid to tell someone to get real. He does have DB moments. I do agree with him on his sentiments above.

Is flavor of the week in terms of his opinions. He says nothing original, he offers no substance to his arguments, he just runs with whatever meme is hot at any given moment. He's like the guy that doesn't watch any games over the weekend, he just watches the 7 AM Sportscenter and repeats whatever the anchors said about a certain team or player.

A: Tigers are gonna make the playoffs this year.
B: Oh yeah, why?
A: Cuz Buster Olney says they are.
B: Oh, ok. Can you name anyone on the roster?
A: Yeah, the Tigers.
B: Fuck.

He shits on teams/players/coaches when the rest of the country is doing it and he praises whatever team/player/coach ESPN and the bloggers say is hot. He is a bandwagon fan in the truest sense of the word. No substance, no original ideas, Cowherd is the Peter Popoff of sports radio.

trashing Michigan pretty bad all summer. I was listening one morning and can't remember exactly what it was that he said but it was definitely a shot at Michigan and AT Rodriguez

I don't like Cowherd and I think even this opinion is overstating it a bit. Yes, RR may force the Big10 to adjust a bit more but it's not like UM is dominating right now. Ultimately I do think that RR will be successful but it's not like he is introducing something that the Big 10 has never seen. That said, I do think that he has a chance to win it all within 5-6 years.

untill we get a defense. Our defense is a joke and is even worst that what I thought they would be. I didnt think they would be good but they are the worst defense in the Big 10. Once we get some players on d and some depth, then skies the limit for this team and staff!

You can't take Cowherd seriously. He doesn't CARE what you think. He just wants people to get worked up. So he'll take a contrarian position just to ruffle feathers.

I really shouldn't be...but I'm amazed that people take the time to email him. Do you really think Cowherd reads what you're writing? He wants VOLUME. If you're emailing or texting him, he's got affirmation that what he's doing works. He doesn't care if you agree or disagree.

You have to run everything he says through that filter.

(that said, I happen to agree with his RR takes recently)

cowherd also said michigan doesn't develop nfl caliber talent a few years back. Now we have brady, lamar woodley, david harris, henne, marlin jackson, etc. in the nfl and succeeding for the most part. I take him with a grain of salt

He's right about what Michigan brings to the table; other teams can try to imitate the spread, but Rodriguez is the one who originiated it and knows it the best. His turnarounds speak for themselves. No one in the Big Ten will be able to handle Michigan's spread. Look at that Denard Robinson drive late in the Iowa. They knew he would be running rhe ball and he still averaged a good chunk yards per carry and scored. Wait two years and Michigan will be incredible. Other teams will have to recruit to compete with the spread.
